Montreal GM Marc Bergevin still believes that Louis Leblanc can be part of the team's future.
"He knows he has to be better and he knows it's a big summer for him," Bergevin said. "It's going to be up to him. But he's a good young player that we hope one day will play here." Louis Leblanc suffered an injury during Saturday's AHL Hamilton game.

Leblanc had to be helped off the ice after a scrum. "It's never fun to see a guy get hurt like that," said forward Gabriel Dumont. "His leg twisted pretty weird. It didn't look good so it's tough. He's a good player and a big loss for our team." Leblanc didn't return to the game.

Louis Leblanc has been assigned to the minors by Montreal.

The Hamilton Bulldogs begin training camp on Sept. 28 and they will have 21 players on loan from the Canadiens at that time. Michael Blunden, Michael Bournival, Brendan Gallagher, Blake Geoffrion, Nathan Beaulieu, Morgan Ellis and Jarred Tinordi were also among the players that were sent down to begin the year in the AHL. Leblanc probably would have started the season with Montreal, but the lockout has complicated things a bit.

Louis Leblanc's chance to play on Montreal's second line may have gone up with Rene Bourque sidelined for the next eight to 12 weeks because of abdominal surgery.

He should get a look alongside Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta, as long as the regular season starts on time. The move might've occurred even if Bourque was healthy because Leblanc was slightly more productive than Bourque during their appearances in Montreal last season. Other prospects, Michael Bournival and Brendan Gallagher, could be in line for the opportunity as well. If the younger players don't work out then Lars Eller and Travis Moen could also get a look on the Canadiens' second unit, but they are better served in third-line checking roles.

Louis Leblanc is projected to play alongside Tomas Plekanec and Rene Bourque, on Montreal's second line, in Tuesday's match-up against Florida.

The 21-year-old has skated in 36 games with the Canadiens in his first taste of NHL action this season. He has produced four goals, nine points and 58 hits while averaging 10:41 of ice time per contest. However, Plekanec hasn't performed up to expectations this year and Bourque has been fairly disappointing since arriving from Calgary, so this new combination may not amount to much.
