He had scored three goals in his first three games, but he was held off the board three contests. Panik's power play goal late in the third period cut St. Louis' lead to 4-1. Teammate Ryan Hartman cut the deficit to 4-2 less than two minutes later, but that's as close as the Blackhawks would come to tying up the game. "I don't want to be satisfied with the contract and everything from last season. It's the past," he said. "Now I have other goals I want to achieve and I'm just focusing on that." Panik is projected to be back with Jonathan Toews and they will likely be joined by Brandon Saad.

Sep 29 - 10:15 AM

Richard Panik made it sound like there wasn't much of a negotiating process before he inked his two-year, $5.6 million extension with Chicago on Thursday.

"I was waiting for the first offer to come in, and the first offer they gave me surprised me," Panik said. "There wasn't much thinking involved. I was really happy to get the first offer [because] it was a good one." It's good that Panik was happy with Chicago's offer because, if anything, he might have been able to hold out for more if he really wanted to. He's coming off a strong season where he recorded 22 goals and 44 points in 82 games. He'll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this deal, so if he has another couple solid seasons during this contract then his next signing should be fairly lucrative.
May 12 - 10:10 AM

Richard Panik has signed a two-year, $5.6 million contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks.

That's a big jump from his $875K salary in 2016-17, but it's not a surprising raise. He's coming off a strong campaign where he scored 22 goals and 44 points in 82 games. In fact, if anything you could argue that he left money on the table. He would have been a restricted free agent this summer and is eligible to become a UFA at the end of this new deal.
May 11 - 12:08 PM

Richard Panik says he'd like to re-sign with the Chicago Blackhawks.

That all depends on how much money he's looking to make on his next contract. Panik, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent, had a career year in 2016-17. He scored 22 goals and 22 assists in 82 games this season. The Blackhawks usually don't give depth players "big" money, so it'll be up to Panik to decide how much of a discount he's willing to take to stick around.
