It's now December and the youngsters Olsen and Shaw have seen but seven games between them with no points to speak of. There may be latent talent, but if they can't get on the ice then it doesn't matter.

In the wake of Alex Petrovic's foot injury, the Florida Panthers have recalled defenseman Dylan Olsen.

The 24-year-old Olsen is expected to play Sunday against the Red Wings. Olsen has seen 116 NHL games since being drafted 28th overall in 2009, but has not managed to solidify a role. In that time he has 21 points, 34 PIMs, 130 blocks, and 236 hits while averaging just 15 minutes per game.

Dylan Olsen is expected to be pushed by prospects Mike Matheson and MacKenzie Weegar for a roster spot.

"There will be healthy competition for jobs and Dylan's got the ability," GM Dale Tallon said. "It's a matter of him getting in a proper frame of mind and [being] physically fit." Olsen struggled to hold his position on the Panthers last season, mostly because of costly turnovers. Tallon feels the 24-year-old defender has grown since then and he'll be better prepared to play in the NHL.

According to the Panthers, he is back home tending to a "personal matter." He was assigned to AHL San Antonio after he cleared waivers on Jan. 30. Olsen has eight points in 44 games this campaign.

Olsen, who was a nice surprise during the 2013-14 campaign, has reverted to mediocrity this season with eight points in 44 games. He has no fantasy value at this time.
