New York Islanders winger Matt Martin easily leads all NHL skaters in hits since 2012-13, the most recent lockout.
Martin has delivered 974 hits in 205 games played. He's the only player who cleared 800 hits in that time frame, as Cal Clutterbuck comes in at 768, the only other player above 700. Martin is also a source of PIM (114 in 2014-15, 561 in 358 career games), so he could be a somewhat-interesting utility consideration if you can stomach the loss in traditional stats. Matt Martin (undisclosed) hopes to rejoin the Islanders' lineup for Game 1.

Martin missed the final three games of the regular season, but he practiced on the fourth line Monday. "I felt great in practice today," Martin said. "It's hard to keep any player out of the lineup this time of year because it's an exciting time and you definitely want to be playing. I've been skating for four days and I feel pretty good. I feel like I'm right back in the rhythm." Islanders coach Jack Capuano hasn't committed to using Martin in Game 1 though.

Matt Martin (undisclosed) skated on Saturday.

Martin missed the last week of the season with the undisclosed injury but should be in the Islanders lineup for Game 1. He is a big hitter and can score the occasional goal so he could be a thorn in the side of the Capitals in the first round of the playoffs.

Matt Martin (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup on Tuesday.

He didn't make the trip to Philadelphia and coach Jack Capuano didn't elaborate on his status, so consider Martin day-to-day for now. Look elsewhere for your hits and penalty minutes.

Matt Martin has served his one game suspension for kneeing Trevor Daley and can return on Saturday.

Martin thought the disciplinary hearing was fair and was quite sorry for his hit on Daley and let him know so through a text. "I texted him and told him I was sorry for the play, and he wrote back saying he knew it wasn't my intent and that he loves the way I play," Martin said. "You hear that from a guy you compete against, it's good. He certainly could have been real sour about the whole thing and I wouldn't have blamed him." Martin is having a good fantasy season with eight goals and 14 points to go with 114 penalty minutes. He also leads the NHL in hits with 318, 43 ahead of teammate Cal Clutterbuck who is second in the league.

The New York Islanders have only two fighting majors this season with Matt Martin having one of them.

Fighting is way down this season and Martin who had 10 majors last season, is controlling himself. "You don't see too many of the staged fights, right off the draw," Martin said. "It's definitely harder to find a fight, if you want to go or if someone else wants to. I certainly understand what the coaches want. If we're ahead, there's no reason to fight." Martin leads the NHL with 83 hits but he has only one assist and 15 penalty minutes in 17 games.

Few players dish out punishment while taking very little quite like New York Islanders winger Matt Martin did last season.

He delivered 356 hits while only taking 91 at even-strength (359 overall) in 2013-14. He is worth consideration in league with hits and PIM. He had 90 PIM in 79 games last season and has 447 in 280 NHL games. His point totals are nothing special, yet he's at least managed to be in double digits there while at least getting some SOG (120 last season).
