Henrik Karlsson will dress as Chicago's backup goalie when the playoffs begin Tuesday night.

He will occupy the bench, with Corey Crawford in goal, because Ray Emery isn't ready to return from his lower-body injury in Game 1 against Minnesota.

Chicago has called up Henrik Karlsson.

Karlsson has a 2.86 GAA and .898 save percentage in 18 games with AHL Rockford this season. Carter Hutton might start on Saturday so that Corey Crawford can get a game off. If that happens then there's a chance that Karlsson will serve as the backup so that Crawford can take the day off entirely.

Henrik Karlsson has been called up by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Corey Crawford might be suffering from an injury as he wasn't part of Chicago's morning skate. Either way look for Karlsson to be the backup goaltender on Friday.

One reason Henrik Karlsson was dealt to Chicago was to open up a roster spot.

The NHL allows each team to have only 50 players under contract and while the Flames were at 49 before the trade, they figure on signing American World Junior Championship star Johnny Gaudreau to a deal after the college hockey season ends. Karlsson also lost his backup spot to Leland Irving which was the real reason.

The Calgary Flames have traded Henrik Karlsson to Chicago for a seventh round pick in the 2013 Draft.

Karlsson lost his job as the backup to Miikka Kiprusoff in Calgary as Leland Irving will now have the honors. The Blackhawks sent Karlsson to the AHL Rockford IceHogs where he will provide insurance to Corey Crawford and Ray Emery. The draft pick was originally the Ottawa Senators which the Blackhawks acquired in an earlier deal.

Henrik Karlsson has been placed on waivers by the Calgary Flames.

What makes this weird is that Leland Irving was also waived by Calgary. It's not clear what there plans are given that they've exposed both of their potential backup goaltenders.

Henrik Karlsson stopped 23 of 25 shots to pick up his first victory of the season as the Flames defeated Anaheim 5-2.

It was the seventh start of season for Karlsson and he finally picked up the victory. He had a tough start to the season when he injured his MCL on December 4 as Leland Irving took over his role as the backup to Miikka Kiprusoff.

Henrik Karlsson is expected to be in goal for Calgary Saturday.

Karlsson will be looking for his first win of the season as he is slated to start only his seventh game of the season. He was injured on December 4 with a tear in his MCL and had a tough time getting back in goal as the Flames would recall Leland Irving whenever Miikka Kiprusoff needed a break although he finally started a game on March 31 as he suffered an overtime loss.

Henrik Karlsson suffered the overtime loss after giving up three goals in the Calgary Flames' 3-2 overtime setback to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.

Karlsson has started six games (appeared in two more) and has zero wins this season. He made 31 saves in the overtime loss. Now eliminated from playoff contention, it was a good time to give the workhorse, Miikka Kiprusoff, a night off.

Henrik Karlsson will come out of the press box to back up Miikka Kiprusoff on Sunday.

Karlsson was relegated to the press box when the Flames recalled Leland Irving two weeks ago. Irving got the starts that were supposed to go to Karlsson and will Kiprusoff playing every game until March 31 when the Flames play the back end of back-to-back games, Irving was sent to the minors on Saturday to get in playing time. It has to be frustrating for Karlsson as he will only see the ice if Kiprusoff is injured in the middle of a game.

Coach Brent Sutter let back up goalie Henrik Karlsson know a couple of days in advance that the team was going to promote Leland Irving.

Irving is expected to get the start in goal on Friday, relegating Karlsson to the press box. "I sat with Henrik and explained it to him here a couple of days ago and told him exactly what we’re doing," said Sutter. "At this point in time and where we’re at in standings, if we’re gonna be going with our backup goaltender, I’ve got to go with the guy that’s won us some games and gotten us some points. Take it the way you want — the bottom line is we’ve got to win games. Karl, he was disappointed, but I thought he handled it very professionally, too. He understood." Look for Irving to go back to the minors after the game with Karlsson returning to the bench as Miikka Kiprusoff's backup.

Henrik Karlsson gave up four goals in a shutout loss to Oklahoma City in his first game since returning from a knee injury Thursday.

Karlsson is down on the farm with Abbotsford of the AHL on a conditioning stint as he is recovering from a torn MCL that occurred in early December. The netminder was plowed into the net early in the game by Bryan Helmer of the Barons who took a penalty on the play but continued and went the rest of the way. "It’s fine, it didn’t hurt, so no problem," Karlsson stated in regard to the collision. "It’s nice to be back on the ice, but it’s never fun losing. We have a good chance now on Saturday to play better than this because I think we were sloppy as a team and I also can play better. So we have to regroup and do it better on Saturday." Karlsson will be recalled within 10 days but do not expect him to play a lot as Miikka Kiprusoff will go the majority of the time as the Flames hunt down a playoff spot.
