He has finished serving his one-game suspension for a cross-check on Pittsburgh's Tom Kuhnhackl. "I obviously regret the play," Calvert said. The NHL has announced that Matt Calvert will be suspended one game for cross-checking Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl during Game 2.

Calvert broke his stick over Kuhnhackl’s back before tossing him to the ice with approximately 30 seconds remaining in Game 2. Reports broke earlier in the day that the Department of Player Safety didn't consider the play warranting suspension but after a phone hearing and further review it was ruled that one game is enough discipline.

The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced that Matt Calvert will have a phone hearing for his cross-check to the back of Tom Kuhnhackl during Game 2.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun tweeted earlier today that he expects Calvert to only be fined because the DOPS deemed Calvert's stick to break too easily. The Blue Jackets didn't make Calvert available to the media at the end of practice.

LeBrun gets the sense that the department of player safety feels like Calvert's stick broke easily and the cross-check wasn't as malicious as it appeared. It is looking more and more like Calvert will get away with cross-check at the cost of only a fine. A few Penguins players will likely have a few words for him when they meet up for Game 3 on Sunday.
