Matt Calvert won't play on Monday due to an illness.

Calvert has eight goals and 21 points in 57 contests in 2017-18. With Calvert unavailable, Lukas Sedlak will draw into the lineup.

Matt Calvert received a match penalty on Monday for hitting the butt-end of his stick into Alex Ovechkin.

The incident occurred at the end of the first period. Things got heated afterwards as Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella and Ovechkin exchanged words just before the second frame started. "That’s my fault. I thought he dove and I signaled to him," Tortorella said of Ovechkin. "He took exception. I have no business making any gesture or saying anything to a player. That’s not on him; that’s just stupidity on my part." We don't know yet if Calvert is going to get any supplemental discipline, but it's unlikely he gets more than a fine, if that.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated Matt Calvert off injured reserve.

Calvert has been out with an upper-body injury since Nov. 6. He has three goals and five assists in 14 games this season.

Matt Calvert (upper body) took part in a full practice on Thursday.

This was his first session with his teammates since he was injured back on Nov. 4. Calvert didn't have a full-time spot on a line during rushes, so he may not be ready to play on Friday against Anaheim.

Matt Calvert (upper body) is projected to miss three-to-four weeks.

Calvert has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. He was injured in this past Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.

Matt Calvert is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Calvert was hit hard in the third period of Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Tampa Bay. He has returned to Columbus for further evaluation.

Matt Calvert is on a three-game point streak.

Calvert kept that run going by registering two assists in Columbus' 7-3 win over Florida on Thursday. He has three goals and eight points in 13 contests this season.

Matt Calvert scored a goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Blues.

Calvert cut St. Louis' lead to 3-1 in the third period, but that's as close as the Blue Jackets would come to tying the game. He now has three goals and two assists in 11 games this season. All three of his goals have come in the last four games. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Alexander Wennberg picked up the assists on Columbus' only goal.

Matt Calvert has been moved up to the second line for Tuesday's game.

Calvert will play alongside Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nick Foligno. While that's good news for Calvert, he tends not to do much offensively, so we're hesitant to recommend picking him up, even at this time. Sonny Milano is shifting from the second to third line as a result of this move.

Matt Calvert hopes to build off his showing in the 2017 playoffs.

Calvert had 10 goals and 15 points in 65 contests in 2016-17 and followed that up with a goal and an assist in four playoff games. "I want to do what I did in the playoffs last year," Calvert said. "I want to play at that level all year long. That’s what I’ve been working on all summer. I want to be a difference-maker." We could see Calvert doing better offensively than his did in the 2016-17 regular season, but not by much. If he ends up with 20-25 points then that wouldn't be surprising.

Matt Calvert will be back in the lineup in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

He has finished serving his one-game suspension for a cross-check on Pittsburgh's Tom Kuhnhackl. "I obviously regret the play," Calvert said. "I let down my teammates and wasn't able to help them (Sunday). It's what happened. There's no sense in me commenting on it now. We have to get ready for Game 4." Columbus will try to avoid being swept by the Penguins on Tuesday.

The NHL has announced that Matt Calvert will be suspended one game for cross-checking Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl during Game 2.

Calvert broke his stick over Kuhnhackl’s back before tossing him to the ice with approximately 30 seconds remaining in Game 2. Reports broke earlier in the day that the Department of Player Safety didn't consider the play warranting suspension but after a phone hearing and further review it was ruled that one game is enough discipline.

The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced that Matt Calvert will have a phone hearing for his cross-check to the back of Tom Kuhnhackl during Game 2.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun tweeted earlier today that he expects Calvert to only be fined because the DOPS deemed Calvert's stick to break too easily. The Blue Jackets didn't make Calvert available to the media at the end of practice.

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the sense is that Matt Calvert is expected to avoid a suspension for his cross-check to the back of Tom Kuhnhackl at the end of Game 2.

LeBrun gets the sense that the department of player safety feels like Calvert's stick broke easily and the cross-check wasn't as malicious as it appeared. It is looking more and more like Calvert will get away with cross-check at the cost of only a fine. A few Penguins players will likely have a few words for him when they meet up for Game 3 on Sunday.
