Matt Calvert returned to the Columbus lineup Saturday after missing five games with an eye injury and concussion.
Calvert took 36 stitches to his eye and while that has healed nicely, the concussion issues forced him to be on the sidelines longer than he thought he would have to be but he did play two games before he left the lineup. "Midweek there after the second game (Nov. 21 against Colorado), I just wasn’t feeling good," Calvert said. "I think concussions have been a big thing across the league. If you’re not right, you should really tell your trainer. They handled it well and the doctor handled it great. I was in great hands and I’m feeling great right now. Sometimes symptoms don’t pop up until a few days after. I thought I was good, but then two games later I just wasn’t feeling great. I let them know. I went through the protocol and I just wasn’t myself, so I had to take some time off." Dec 4 - 7:28 AM

Matt Calvert will skate on the third line against the Coyotes on Saturday.

Calvert is slated to pair to the left of William Karlsson and Josh Anderson, to make perhaps the most dynamic third line in the game. He has two goals and three points in 17 games this season.

Dec 3 - 5:49 PM

Matt Calvert (upper body) has been taken off the injured reserve list.

Calvert spent five straight games on the sidelines, due to what might have been a head injury. He has two goals and three points in 17 contests this season.
Dec 2 - 5:45 PM

Matt Calvert's upper-body issue appears to be a head injury.

Calvert was struck in the forehead in the puck on Nov. 18. He participated in two games after that before being sidelined. The good news is he's resumed off-ice workouts. This all sounds like Calvert has a concussion, but to be clear that's speculation.
Dec 1 - 11:02 AM

Matt Calvert (upper body) has been moved to the injured reserve list.

Calvert's move is retroactive to Nov. 21, so he won't play on Friday or Saturday. He has two goals and three points in 17 contests this season.
Nov 25 - 10:01 AM

Matt Calvert (upper body) did not travel with the team to Tampa Bay for Friday's match.

He probably won't play against the Lightning and may not be available for Saturday's contest against the Florida Panthers either. Calvert is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, so the Blue Jackets will likely recall someone from the minors.
Nov 24 - 6:34 PM

Matt Calvert will miss Wednesday's game with an upper-body injury.

He will have to wait a little longer to play in his 300th NHL contest. Calvert is listed as day-to-day.
Nov 23 - 6:38 PM

Matt Calvert will play in his 300th NHL game Wednesday.

That's quite an accomplishment for the former fifth round pick in the 2008 Draft. He has no fantasy value as he has only two goals and three points in 17 games.
Nov 23 - 10:22 AM

Matt Calvert could play on Sunday after taking 36 stitches to his forehead Friday.

The incident occurred in the second period but Calvert did return for the third period and managed a goal and a plus-three rating in a 4-2 win over the Rangers. Calvert has two goals and three points in 15 games with 12 penalty minutes this season.
Nov 20 - 6:39 AM

Matt Calvert found himself on the top line Saturday.

The fourth line winger has played well in the first two games of the season so coach John Tortorella moved him off the fourth unit and replaced Boone Jenner on the top line. Calvert's new linemates were Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson while Jenner skated with Scott Hartnell and Josh Anderson. Alex Wennberg replaced Sam Gagner on the second unit with Brandon Saad and Nick Foligno on his wings. All-in-all, Tortorella is not waiting around for things to change this season and as per usual is being proactive and not reactive.
Oct 17 - 7:12 AM

Matt Calvert scored a goal and an assist during Columbus' pre-season finale victory over Pittsburgh.

Calvert is entering his seventh season, and still has yet to reach the 30-point plateau. Until he reaches the 40-point plateau however, we wouldn't pay him much mind as a fantasy asset.
Oct 8 - 5:59 PM

Matt Calvert is going into the 2016-17 campaign as the longest tenured member with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Calvert made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets in 2010-11 and has gone on to log 282 career games. Jared Boll and Fedor Tyutin had both been with Columbus for longer, but the Blue Jackets bought out their contracts. "We have a lot of older guys from other teams (in the dressing room)," Calvert said. "It’s not like I’m walking around trying to boss those guys around. Is Cam (Atkinson) second? We’ve been chirping Hartsy (Scott Hartnell) about how long we’ve been around the team, even though he’s got 1,100 games, or whatever it is."
Sep 24 - 6:04 AM

Matt Calvert ended his season on a three game goal streak.

Calvert's final five games saw him tally three goals and six points as well. Through 73 games this season the forward scored 11 goals and matched his career high of 24 points.
Apr 9 - 11:05 PM

Matt Calvert registered an assist and got into a fight during Columbus' 5-3 victory versus Detroit Tuesday night.

Calvert was also charged with a boarding minor in the first period, so he finished the night with a total of seven PIM, bringing his 2015-16 total up to 45. He also has seven goals and 15 points in 58 games in 2015-16.
Mar 9 - 9:08 AM

Matt Calvert recorded three assists in Columbus' 6-1 victory over New Jersey Thursday night.

All of Calvert's helpers were recorded in the first period, making him the sixth player in Blue Jackets' history to get three assists in a single period. He's also the first Columbus player to do it since 2007. He now has seven goals and 13 points in 53 contests in 2015-16.
