The Colorado Avalanche waived Guillaume Desbiens on Sunday.
They gave him a one-year, two-way deal in July. The 28-year-old might have a tough time cracking the Colorado lineup, although injuries can always open up doors (and the Avs certainly have had their fair share of issues). Sun, Sep 29, 2013 04:32:00 PM

AHL forward Guillaume Desbiens will be looking to make an impression at training camp for the Canucks.

"I know they have a high payroll and a cheap guy like me could squeeze in," he said. "It will be a battle. For me, a big part of my game is being physical and finishing all of my checks. I don't think they're expecting any huge scoring from me, but they could get those bonus goals sometimes. I'll mix up things a little bit and try to do what I do in Manitoba and reproduce it there." Desbiens has improved his offensive game since arriving in Manitoba. He notched 21 goals, 47 points and 158 penalty minutes in 78 games with the Moose two seasons ago and 19 goals, 34 points and 144 penalty minutes in 67 contests last year. If he has a strong camp he could end up earning a fourth-line role.
