Chad Johnson yielded five goals on just 31 shots in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss in Vegas.
Johnson was given a new lease on life when the Sabres offense erased a 4-1 deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but the netminder couldn't take advantage. He gave up the game-winning goal to David Perron at 3:52 of the extra session to give Johnson the loss. Oct 18 - 2:03 AM

Chad Johnson will get the start in Tuesday's game against Vegas.

This will be Johnson's second consecutive start. He stopped 25 of 26 shots in last weekend's win over Anaheim, so head coach Phil Housley is going back to him tonight. Johnson has a 3.67 goals-against-average and a .875 save percentage this season.
Oct 17 - 3:33 PM

Chad Johnson guided Buffalo to a much-needed 3-1 victory over Anaheim on Sunday night.

Johnson helped snap a four-game losing streak with 25 saves on 26 shots to beat the Ducks 3-1. He improves to 1-1 this season with a 3.66 goals against average and .875 save percentage.

Chad Johnson is getting the call in the crease for Sunday's game against Anaheim.

Johnson, who has allowed seven goals on just 38 shots this season, will be in tough again as the Sabres finish a road trip with their third game in four nights. There isn't much further he can sink, however, with an 0-1 record, 5.91 goals against average and .816 save percentage.

Chad Johnson got the hook after two periods in Monday's 6-2 loss to New Jersey.

Johnson was burned for six goals on 22 shots in the contest. Robin Lehner started the third period in relief and he stopped all nine of the shots he faced.
Oct 9 - 6:01 PM

Chad Johnson will start Monday afternoon against New Jersey.

It will be Johnson's second appearance of the 2017-18 campaign and his first start. He saw action on Saturday versus the Islanders when he blocked 15 of the 16 shots he faced in a 6-3 loss.
Oct 9 - 1:30 PM

Chad Johnson is shuffling back to Buffalo.

The Sabres have signed the underrated Johnson to a one-year, $2.5 million deal to be starter Robin Lehner’s backup next season. Johnson carried the Flames in the early part of the 2016-17 campaign while Brian Elliott was floundering and is a very capable number two.
Jul 1 - 12:39 PM

Chad Johnson could be heading back to the Sabres.

Michael Russo of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune is hearing that it's "very likely" that Johnson will sign with the Sabres. He had 22-16-4 record with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 45 games for Buffalo in 2015-16. Johnson played for the Calgary Flames last year and he was traded to Arizona in the off-season. He will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Jun 28 - 2:14 PM

Pending unrestricted free agent Chad Johnson has been traded from the Calgary Flames to the Arizona Coyotes.

Here's the whole trade: Arizona gets Johnson, Brandon Hickey and a conditional third-round pick for goaltender Mike Smith. If the Coyotes want to keep Johnson, they'll have to work out a new contract with him before he's eligible to hit the open market on July 1st. Johnson had an 18-15-1 record with a 2.59 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage this season. The conditional third-round pick becomes a second-rounder if the Flames make the playoffs next season.
Jun 17 - 2:23 PM

Chad Johnson had no issue accepting Team Canada's offer to play in the 2017 IIHF World Championships even though he is a pending unrestricted free agent.

"Some players don't do these types of things because they don't have a contract, because they don't want to risk injury," Johnson said. "I thought about that, but for me, these opportunities don't come very often. I love being a part of Canada, I love being Canadian, I love being part of Hockey Canada. So, for myself, to put on a Canadian jersey to play for Team Canada, it was a no-brainer for me ... I didn't think about it being something I have to do because of my contract situation. I think my body of work over the past two years speaks for itself." He would like to stay with Calgary, but he isn't sure what their plans for the crease are moving forward.
Apr 29 - 10:37 AM

Chad Johnson, who becomes a UFA on July 1, wants to return to the Calgary Flames.

The Flames need goaltending as both Johnson and Brian Elliott are potential UFA's. Johnson was slated to be the Flames backup this season but carried them early on as Elliott really struggled. Johnson was 18-15-1 this season with a 2.59 GAA and a .910 save percentage so he certainly played a lot. "I want to be a 1A goalie," Johnson said. "I think I’ve proven I can be a 1B when I was given the opportunity I took that role and had that roll and did well. My goal is to be part of a winning team and to play and to contribute. I think I can do that here." Stay tuned.
Apr 23 - 7:40 AM

Chad Johnson will return to his post as backup goalie in Game 2 against Anaheim on Saturday.

He had been out with a lower body injury, though Brian Elliott was able to hold down the fort in his absence. Johnson is unlikely to see much time this postseason without Elliott falling apart first.

Apr 15 - 9:26 PM

Chad Johnson (lower body) is expected to return to his backup role during the Flames' first round series with the Ducks.

"I'm expecting, sometime in this series, that he'll be backing up," coach Glen Gulutzen noted. This is good news for the Flames, and some reassurance for Brian Elliott.
Apr 14 - 6:53 PM

Chad Johnson (lower body) took part in Tuesday's practice.

Johnson is making progress, but he won't be available for Game 1. Once he's healthy, he'll probably serve as the Flames' backup unless Brian Elliott gets hurt or struggles significantly.
Apr 12 - 6:22 PM

Chad Johnson (lower body) didn't participate in Monday's practice.

The good news is that Johnson did get some on-ice work in prior to the Flames' morning skate. If he's not available for Game 1 then Jon Gillies will serve as the backup goaltender.
