Chad Johnson had a sprained ankle, which prevented him from playing with the Sabres after he was acquired from the Islanders.
He's hoping to get a chance to dress for Buffalo next season, as he has one season left on his contract. "My focus is just on having a good summer and getting better as a goalie and being ready to have a great year next year," Johnson said. "Hopefully, it's here." He has compiled a 28-14-7 record with a .914 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA during his time with the Islanders, Rangers, Arizona and Boston. He will probably be the backup of whoever the Sabres sign or acquire to be the starter. Apr 28 - 8:52 AM

Chad Johnson, who has been out of action since March 6th with a lower-bory injury, faced shots at practice this week.

Johnson is itching to return before the end of the season but Buffalo coach Ted Nolan is not certain he will be recovered sufficienty to achieve that goal. Even Johnson does return to action before the regular season ends, you don't want him anywhere near your lineup.
Apr 3 - 9:52 AM

Chad Johnson (lower body) will be "out for a while," according to Sabres coach Ted Nolan.

Johnson was set to make his first start with Buffalo on Friday before he sustained this injury. Now the question is if he'll play at all with the Sabres before the end of the 2014-15 campaign. Nolan wouldn't rule out the possibility that Johnson's time on the sidelines will consume what's left of 2014-15. Look for Buffalo to lean heavily on Anders Lindback as a result.
Mar 7 - 10:06 AM

Chad Johnson is dealing with a lower-body injury.

Johnson will probably miss Friday's game as a result. This setback is particularly unfortunate for him because he was penciled in to get the nod in that game. Buffalo has called up goaltender Andrey Makarov and he'll probably serve as Anders Lindback's understudy.
Mar 6 - 4:03 PM

Chad Johnson will make his Buffalo debut on Friday versus Ottawa.

Anders Lindback turned aside 32 of the 35 shots he faced in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay, but now it will be Johnson's turn. The two of them will probably share starts for the rest of the season.
Mar 5 - 11:01 AM

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired Chad Johnson and a 2016 third-round pick from the New York Islanders in exchange for Michal Neuvirth.

Johnson has a 3.08 GAA and .889 save percentage in 19 games this season. He'll join forces with Anders Lindback to form the worst goaltending duo in the NHL. Although one of them will have to play, neither of them should be on your fantasy roster in any standard leagues unless you're desperate for starts.
Mar 2 - 1:50 PM

Things didn't go very well for Chad Johnson and the New York Islanders on Saturday, as they fell 5-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Johnson gave up five goals on 41 shots, with the Hurricanes slowing the pace in a third period that at least kept it from being a total disaster (as he didn't get pulled). He's now 8-8-1 as a mediocre-at-best backup for the Isles.
Feb 28 - 8:11 PM

Look for Chad Johnson to be between the pipes on Saturday for the New York Islanders.

The Islanders have been relying a lot on Jaroslav Halak and he played on Friday so this could be a perfect spot for Johnson as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes. Johnson has been mediocre this season with an 8-7-1 record to go with a 2.95 GAA and a .890 save percentage. Adjust your lineups if you need to.
Feb 28 - 8:23 AM

Islanders backup netminder Chad Johnson coasted to an easy 5-1 win over Arizona Tuesday night.

A home matchup against the struggling Desert Dogs is certainly one to circle on the calendar so Jaroslav Halak's owners are likely a bit sour about the fact he didn't get a chance on this night. That said, Johnson made the most of his opportunity by blocking 27 of 28 shots to improve his record to 8-7-1.
Feb 24 - 9:43 PM

Chad Johnson will get the start Tuesday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

This will be Johnson's third start in five games, and fourth of the month. Clearly the Islanders are trying to get primary goalie Jaroslav Halak some rest while they can. Johnson is 1-0-1 with just three goals on 65 shots over the last week. He's also 7-7-1 through 17 games with 48 goals on 419 shots this season.
Feb 24 - 5:03 PM

Chad Johnson couldn't get his second win in a row as the Washington Capitals beat his New York Islanders 3-2 (SO) on Saturday.

Johnson falls to 7-7-1 on the season after giving up two goals on 27 shots. The 28-year-old had a nice showing on Feb. 17 (37 out of 38 saves in a win vs. Carolina) but couldn't get his second victory of February.
Feb 21 - 3:38 PM

Chad Johnson will get the start in goal for the Islanders on Saturday.

Johnson has struggled this season as he is 7-7-0 with a 3.17 GAA and a .883 save percentage. The 7-7 record is nothing special as the Islanders are 39-19-1 this season and sit in second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Jaroslav Halak will start on Sunday.
Feb 21 - 10:57 AM

Chad Johnson stood on his head Tuesday as he and the Islanders defeated Carolina by a score of 4-1.

Johnson turned aside 37 of the 38 shots he faced in the rare starting assignment, which raises his record to 7-7-0. His GAA and save percentage are 3.17 and .883, respectively, which helps to explain why Jaroslav Halak doesn't receive too many nights off.
Feb 17 - 9:41 PM

Chad Johnson will get the start versus Carolina on Tuesday night.

Johnson has seen just 15 games this season while cobbling together a 6-7-0 record with 45 goals against. Needless to say, he has not helped give starter Jaroslav Halak much of a respite. However he's undefeated in three starts against the Hurricanes with just six goals against. Looks like one streak or the other will continue.
Feb 17 - 5:40 PM

Chad Johnson gave up two goals on 36 shots in the Islanders’ 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Saturday night.

An important outing for the Islanders’ backup after several pretty poor performances. Even though Johnson might not even get a third of the starts the rest of the way, the Islanders will be jockeying for playoff position. He has a 3.33 goals-against average and a .873 save percentage this season.
