Chad Johnson sticked aside 26 shots in the Islanders’ 7-5 win against the Stars on Saturday night.
Johnson is lucky he plays behind such a stellar offense. He gave up on goal in the first, three in the second and another in the third. Johnson was making his second straight start after winning in Boston, but it’s likely that Jaroslav Halak, who has been hot and cold, will draw the next start at home against Winnipeg on Tuesday. Chad Johnson is likely to get the start in goal for the Islanders on Saturday.

Johnson is 2-0 this season with a .918 save percentage and a 2.14 GAA. He started and defeated the Boston Bruins on Thursday and it looks like coach Jack Capuano will go back to him tonight against the Dallas Stars.
Oct 25 - 10:44 AM

Chad Johnson notched a win against his former team in Boston on Thursday night, making 30 saves in the Isles' 3-2 victory.

The Isles backup improves to 2-0 on the season with a .918 save percentage and 2.14 goals against average. Johnson was named the third star of the game for his solid effort.
Oct 23 - 10:15 PM

Chad Johnson will be between the pipes for the Islanders on Thursday night versus his ex-Boston teammates.

He appeared in 27 games with the Bruins last season, as Tuukka Rask's backup. New York starter Jaroslav Halak appears to be getting a breather after he was burned for five goals on 23 shots in Tuesday's loss to Toronto.
Oct 23 - 11:56 AM

Chad Johnson and the Islanders hung on for a 4-3 win against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Johnson made only 21 saves in the win. Neither Johnson nor Jaroslav Halak have been particular sharp in their first starts of the season. As long as Halak remains serviceable, he should remain the starter because he’ll easily be an upgrade over what the Islanders have had in recent seasons, with Johnson a solid backup. The 28-year-old had a 2.10 goals-against average and .925 save percentage last season for the Bruins.
Oct 11 - 11:16 PM

Not a huge surprise considering the back-to-back, but note that Chad Johnson will play for the New York Islanders against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Jaroslav Halak got a win on Friday, and with the game on Long Island, it's a good opportunity for Johnson to earn his first win as an Islanders netminder. With Halak's injury history, Johnson is a guy to at least keep tabs on.
Oct 11 - 6:45 PM

Chad Johnson earned a shootout win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Johnson stopped 26 of 28 shots during regulation and OT and then stopped two of three shots in the shootout to record the victory. Johnson should turn out to be an upgrade to the backup goalie spot for the Islanders this year. He'll get his share of starts as the backup to Jaroslav Halak.
Sep 26 - 10:34 PM

The New York Islanders have signed goaltender Chad Johnson to a contract.

Johnson will get a two year deal at $1.3 million per season. Johnson will now back up Jaroslav Halak on the Island. He was very good for the Bruins in a backup role as he was 17-4-3 with a 2.10 GAA and a .925 save percentage. The Islanders would love those stats in 2014-15 but somehow we doubt it.
Jul 1 - 12:20 PM

Chad Johnson knows he won't be back playing for Boston next season.

The team signed Niklas Svedberg to a one-year, one-way contract on Monday, which means he's slated to back up Tuukka Rask next season and Chad Johnson will be permitted to test unrestricted free agency. He told the Boston Globe's Amalie Benjamin via text: "It's unfortunate for me because I loved everything about Boston and the Bruins. With how tight the cap is in Boston ... as well as what the goalie market for a guy like myself is nothing really could work out." Johnson posted a 17-4-3 record with a 2.10 GAA and a save percentage of .925 during the 2013-14 season in Boston.
Jun 24 - 9:38 AM

Potential unrestricted free agent Chad Johnson isn't sure if he'll be back with Boston next season.

"I'll definitely take some time and think about things. This is a great ownership group, great coaching staff, great management group and a great bunch of teammates," said Johnson. "There are no walls set up on this team to separate one group from another, and that's something you really appreciate as a player. But you also know there are only so many chances you'll get to possibly prove yourself as a starting goaltender at the NHL level. That's something I'd really like to give my best shot moving forward." Anton Khuodobin backed up Tuukka Rask during the lockout-shortened season and he proved his worth to the Carolina Hurricanes this year. Johnson may want to try to do the same on another NHL team. If the Bruins aren't confident using Niklas Svedberg or Malcolm Subban as their backup next campaign then they could try to sign an inexpensive veteran should Johnson choose to leave.
May 20 - 4:49 PM

Chad Johnson probably won't be back with the Bruins next season.

He has done a very good job as the team's backup goaltender this season, but Niklas Svedberg is expected to be promoted to the NHL in 2014-15. Johnson will probably be permitted to test the market as an unrestricted free agent after he backs up Tuukka Rask during the postseason.
Apr 14 - 10:14 AM

After being an outstanding short-term pickup for almost all of this season, Chad Johnson struggled to get what could have been big head-to-head playoff wins for fantasy owners.

His Boston Bruins fell 3-2 to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday. Johnson hasn't been bad, yet he's lost three in a row (0-2-1). His season has been surprisingly strong overall, though, with a 17-4-3 record and .925 save percentage.
Apr 13 - 6:22 PM

Chad Johnson was excellent Thursday night, but he was the hard luck loser in a 2-1 shootout defeat against Winnipeg.

Despite garnering only occasional starting assignments, Johnson has proven to be useful in fantasy leagues by winning virtually every game he starts. Despite not earning a W in this outing, he did turn away 36 of the 37 shots he faced in the loss. His record is now 18-2-3 while his GAA is 2.07 and his save percentage is .926.
Apr 11 - 12:51 AM

Chad Johnson will get the nod for Boston on Thursday in Toronto.

Tuukka Rask was in goal for the Bruins' 3-2 loss to Detroit on Wednesday and he'll get the night off. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Apr 3 - 6:31 PM

Chad Johnson helped the Bruins win another game on Saturday by making 31 saves against Washington.

He has won his last six contests to earn an impressive 17-3-1 record on the year. Johnson also has a .926 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average. He has been one of the better backup options this campaign.
