Dec 4 - 7:23 PM

Robert Bortuzzo seems to disagree with the NHL's assessment of his hit to Jaromir Jagr.

Bortuzzo will serve a two-game suspension over the incident. "I wasn't targeting anything in that way," Bortuzzo said. "I've watched it a few times. I believe I made contact with the chest. It was a full-body check." The big issue with Bortuzzo's hit wasn't that he was targeting Jagr's head, it's that he delivered the hit so late that Jagr wasn't eligible to be checked at all. The league noted that "the onus is entirely upon Bortuzzo to avoid contact completely, and he has ample time to do so."
Dec 4 - 10:53 AM

Robert Bortuzzo has received a two-game suspension for his late hit on Jaromir Jagr.

The league felt that Bortuzzo's hit was worthy of supplemental discipline because of its "extreme lateness, its predatory nature, and the significant head contact that results from the way it's delivered." Jagr was injured on the play and had to leave the contest. Bortuzzo will be eligible to return on Dec. 8.

Robert Bortuzzo (illness) was able to play on Tuesday, but he might find himself missing some time due to a possible suspension.

Bortuzzo delivered a late hit to New Jersey's Jaromir Jagr and will have a hearing as a result. "I thought it was a real liberty, totally unnecessary," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. He also suggested that it was a hit to the head. Bortuzzo didn't receive a penalty for his actions.

Robert Bortuzzo took advantage of an injury to Kris Letang to score his second of the season Saturday.

Bortuzzo was a healthy scratch on Friday and was heading to the same fate on Saturday when Letang was ruled out with a minor lower body injury. It was an impressive goal from the defensive defenseman as he went end-to-end to score. "We always stress to get your feet moving," Bortuzzo said. "One of their defenseman went toward Siller (left wing Zach Sill). I just took the ice and went with it." He now has four points in eight games with a plus-three rating.
