Matt Hackett will be an unrestricted free agent once the season ends.

He needed to have five more appearances of at least 30 minutes going into Friday's contest against Chicago in order to remain Buffalo property. As he did not play against the Hawks and as the Sabres have only four more games this season, Hackett will not reach the threshold. Hackett is not really a fantasy asset, but we thought you might want to know that he will be on the open market for the 2015-16 campaign.

"I thought he was good. He gave us a chance," said Nolan. "For a kid who sat on the bench the last couple of weeks patiently waiting, we had a chance to work with him the last couple days and get him prepped to play this game. It wasn’t an easy game to play. They’ve got some good shooters on the other team and I thought he played real well." The Sabres lost a 3-0 decision to the Predators.
