Matthew Hackett could end up sharing time with Jhonas Enroth in Buffalo's crease next season if number one goaltender Ryan Miller is traded.
"I haven't been following," Hackett said of Miller's trade situation. "Whatever happens, happens, but he's a guy that I continue to follow to watch his career." Hackett, who was acquired from Minnesota as part of the Jason Pominville deal, is a fan of Miller's and he may get the opportunity to replace him on the Sabres roster. He has been good in the minors since being acquired by Buffalo, but won't get the start in Wednesday's AHL playoff match versus the Toronto Marlies. Hackett has 13 games of NHL experience and he fared well with the Wild during the 2011-12 campaign. May 1 - 9:51 AM

Date:

Matthew Hackett has been acquired by the Buffalo Sabres.

Hackett gives the Sabres a young goaltender to provide them with other options in the event that they don't sign Ryan Miller at the end of the 2013-14 campaign. Hackett has a 2.66 GAA and .907 save percentage in 43 AHL games this season.
Apr 3 - 3:05 PM

Matthew Hackett had a rough night in net, as he gave up five goals in the Wild's 5-3 loss to the Stars on Friday.

Or shall we say rough third period? The Wild dominated the third period with a 14-5 shot advantage, but it was Hackett -- in his first start of the season -- who couldn't save the day, giving up three goals, two of which were on the power play (one down two men). Altogether, he made 28 saves.
Mar 29 - 11:34 PM

Matthew Hackett will probably play between the pipes on Friday.

The Wild didn't take netminder Niklas Backstrom with them on their trip to Dallas because they wanted their top goaltender to get some rest. Hackett has a 2.66 GAA and .907 save percentage in 43 AHL games this season.
Mar 29 - 12:10 PM

Matthew Hackett has been called up by the Minnesota Wild.

The Wild will choose Hackett or Darcy Kuemper to start in goal at Dallas on Friday after deciding to give Niklas Backstrom a mini vacation to rest back home

The Minnesota Wild have sent Matthew Hackett to the minors.

Mar 25 - 8:16 AM

The Minnesota Wild have summoned Matthew Hackett.

With Josh Harding recovering from symptoms related to multiple sclerosis and Darcy Kuemper out with a groin injury, the Wild needed a new backup goaltender. Hackett has been solid in the AHL this season and had a 2.38 GAA and .922 save percentage in 12 games with the Wild in 2011-12.
Mar 8 - 12:05 PM

Matthew Hackett kicked out 26 of 27 shots in the Houston Aeros' 5-1 win over the Texas Stars.

Hackett now has a 2.02 GAA and .935 save percentage in three AHL contests. He should be considered the Wild's third-string goaltender and the guy most likely to get called up if Niklas Backstrom or Josh Harding go down with an injury. Or at least that will be true when the lockout ends.

Should Josh Harding leave the Wild as an unrestricted free agent, look for Matthew Hackett to back up Niklas Backstrom next season.

The Wild have a lot of depth in their farm system as far as goaltending goes, so it is no surprise that GM Chuck Fletcher says that the Wild will not take a goaltender with their seventh overall pick in next week's draft. "Usually we don’t want to tip our hand, but we’re not drafting a goalie in the first round," Fletcher said. Hackett was very good in limited NHL action last season as he was 3-6-0 with a 2.38 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 12 games.

Matthew Hackett allowed three goals on 23 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Capitals Sunday.

Hackett has done his best while Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding have been sidelined with injuries, but he's not someone you should trust unless you're desperate.

Look for Matthew Hackett to get the call Sunday against the Capitals.

Josh Harding was in net Saturday night in Minnesota's 3-1 loss to Buffalo and Niklas Backstrom is still injured, so Hackett will likely get the start.
