Zac Rinaldo is promising to change his game next season.
"I don't plan on getting suspended; that's the last thing I want to do," Rinaldo said. "I don't plan on taking stupid penalties; that's the last thing I want to do, is hurt my team. Changing for the better will happen. More opportunity, a different role, perhaps, and I'm open to anything to help the team win." He plans to continue to play a gritty game, but he's also hoping to do more offensively. We aren't expecting him to ever make noteworthy contributions from a points perspective, but he might end up recording fewer penalty minutes per game than he did in Philadelphia. He has 572 penalty minutes in 223 career contests. Jul 23 - 7:49 AM

Zac Rinaldo has been shipped to the Boston Bruins for a third-round draft pick in 2017.

Jun 29 - 4:00 PM

Zac Rinaldo will be scratched against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Due to both a suspension and multiple scratches Rinaldo has seen just nine games in 2015, but has been an effective fantasy goon in that time with 55 PIMs and 40 hits. For the season, he has 92 PIMs and 140 hits in just 40 games.

Zac Rinaldo wasn't happy that he was given a five-minute fighting major over his incident with Jason Chimera on Sunday.

Rinaldo didn't drop his gloves while Chimera punched him after a shoving match. "I was pissed off I got the penalty," Rinaldo said, "because if it was me in that position, I probably would have been thrown out — 10, five, two. He's a good guy. I've been in that situation before where I've done something like that, but it pissed me off. I know if it was me, I would have been kicked out, probably suspended. That's what just pissed me off." Chimera was given two minutes for roughing in addition to his five-minute major for fighting.

Zac Rinaldo will see his first action in 11 games on Saturday.

Rinaldo was suspended for eight games for a hit on Kris Letang and the Flyers made him a healthy scratch in the last two games. Rinaldo's strength in fantasy hockey is in penalty minutes (75) and hits (127). He has only two points in 36 games this season so anything he gets on the scoresheet is just a bonus.
Feb 21 - 8:48 AM

Zac Rinaldo, Andrew MacDonald, Carlo Colaiacovo will sit out Thursday's tilt with the Buffalo Sabres.

Rinaldo is sitting for his tenth straight game, only his second after his eight game ban. MacDonald, his fourth straight. And Colaiacovo has just 15 games to his credit thus far. While Rinaldo will no doubt return to his pummeling ways once reinserted to the lineup (75 PIMs, 127 hits this season), MacDonald and Colaiacovo are without much fantasy value to speak of.

Feb 19 - 6:43 PM

Zac Rinaldo is free from his eight game suspension, but will still be scratched on Tuesday night against Columbus.

Through 36 games this season, he's put up 75 PIMs and 127 hits and a pair of points. If you're in a league that rewards tough guys, be ready to reinsert him back onto your roster.

Zac Rinaldo received an eight-game suspension for his hit on Pittsburgh's Kris Letang.

Letang received a concussion as a result of the blow. Even Rinaldo's coach Craig Berube, wasn't in the mood to defend his player. "He knows he can't hit somebody from behind like that, you know what I mean?" Berube said. "I've said it a hundred times." Rinaldo is eligible to return on Feb. 17.
Jan 27 - 11:25 AM

Zac Rinaldo has waived his right to an in-person hearing for his hit on Pittsburgh's Kris Letang Tuesday night.

He has a phone hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Monday afternoon. Rinaldo is facing a probable suspension for a boarding/charging infraction on Letang during the first period of Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win. He received a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play.
Jan 22 - 5:13 PM

Updating a previous report, Zac Rinaldo might have an in-person hearing on Monday after all.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that Rinaldo would participate in the hearing over the phone, so that's where the initial report comes from. However, the NHLPA said that Rinaldo hasn't made that decision yet. It doesn't really matter from an outsiders perspective anyways. The important facts are that the hearing is indeed scheduled for Monday and because the NHL has offered him an in-person hearing, Rinaldo's suspension could be six games or more.
Jan 21 - 6:48 PM

Zac Rinaldo has declined the opportunity to have an in-person hearing for boarding Kris Letang.

Rinaldo will instead discuss the matter over the phone on Monday. With the All-Star break around the corner, the NHL has no reason to rush this matter. Although he turned down the in-person hearing, he can still be suspended for six or more games.
Jan 21 - 6:17 PM

Zac Rinaldo has been offered an in-person hearing after boarding Kris Letang during Tuesday's contest.

The fact that the league has given Rinaldo the option of an in-person hearing means that he's eligible to receive a suspension of six games or more. "More than likely I'm going to get suspended," Rinaldo acknowledged after the game. "That's the way the league is going right now. Especially it being Kris Letang, a star player. It being me with some history, and I think him getting hurt didn't help me in my situation either. Just have to take it with a grain of salt." Rinaldo has already been suspended twice in his career and he has accumulated 545 penalty minutes in 201 contests.
Jan 21 - 11:18 AM

Zach Rinaldo was ejected in the first period of Tuesday's tilt with Pittsburgh after he hit Kris Letang from behind.

Already with a cross-checking minor to his credit, Rinaldo was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a 10-minute misconduct just 15:36 into the game. He skated 3:53, was a plus-1 on Luke Schenn's opening tally, and had two hits along with his 17 PIMs.
Jan 20 - 8:47 PM

Zac Rinaldo is set to play in his 200th career game on Monday.

Rinaldo has an assist and 58 penalty minutes in 34 contests in 2014-15. He's a pure enforcer that's not likely to ever do too much offensively.
