So far, the Philadelphia Flyers have succeeded in playing a much more disciplined game this season.

In terms of minor penalties, the Flyers have been charged with just 12 in five games, which is the lowest total in the NHL. That's after Flyers GM Ron Hextall met with the team and told them that he felt penalties were killing them. This is particularly noteworthy for guys like Zac Rinaldo. He had 153 penalty minutes in 67 games last season, but so far he's limited himself to four penalty minutes in five contests in 2014-15.

Do not expect to see a repeat of last year's Flyers-Stars game as far as Zac Rinaldo is concerned.

Rinaldo played only four seconds before he fought Antoine Roussel and Rinaldo ended up with 27 penalty minutes including a game misconduct. It was a great fantasy game for his owners, but assistant coach Ian Laperierre took him aside this week and told him that he did not want a repeat of last season.

Zac Rinaldo's newly signed two-year extension comes with an annual cap hit of $850,000.

He'll earn $750,000 this season before his new contract kicks in starting with the 2015-16 campaign. Rinaldo is a good source of penalty minutes and hits, but he is unlikely to ever be a significant contributor offensively.
Sep 2 - 5:12 PM

Zac Rinaldo has inked a two-year extension with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The financial terms of the contract weren't released by the team, but he will earn $750,000 in 2014-15 before his new deal kicks in. "I'm surprised that we even starting to talk about it so early but I am thrilled," Rinaldo said. He doesn't do much offensively, but he did record 153 penalty minutes and 231 hits in 67 games last season.

Zac Rinaldo has finished his four game suspension and is eligible to play in the playoffs.

Rinaldo was suspended for his illegal check to the head on the Sabres Chad Ruhwedel. Rinaldo finished the season with 153 penalty minutes and four points. Do not look for a lot offensively from Rinaldo in the playoffs but he should pile up some penalty minutes.
Apr 14 - 9:15 AM

Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for four games for an illegal check to the head of Buffalo defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.

The incident occurred early in the third period of Sunday's contest and it earned Rinaldo a match penalty. Rinaldo had a goal and 16 penalty minutes versus Buffalo to give him four points and 153 PIMs on the year. He will be eligible to return in the playoffs, but he's done for the Flyers' remaining regular season games.

Zac Rinaldo will return from his ankle injury Thursday.

He will play alongside Michael Raffl and Adam Hall against Anaheim. "It's been too long -– three weeks is too long for me," said Rinaldo, who was originally supposed to be out for six weeks. "I [was] going to do everything I can to do more to get back as soon as I can, and I did. I'm a little nervous being out of the lineup 10 games. Maybe that is good, I don't know. I bring a little more energy when I'm nervous." He has two points and 101 penalty minutes in 44 games this year.
Jan 30 - 5:08 PM

Zac Rinaldo (ankle) was able to fully participate in Wednesday's practice.

Rinaldo declared himself "good to go" just three weeks after sustaining a high ankle sprain that was supposed to sideline him for six weeks. Flyers coach Craig Berube confirmed that Rinaldo is healthy enough to play, but isn't sure if he'll insert him into the lineup for Thursday's contest.
