Stephen Gionta and Ryan Carter were happy to contribute to Team USA's bronze medal at the World Hockey Championship.
"It was a fun tournament and, obviously, it helps coming home with something," Gionta said Wednesday. "The ultimate goal is the make the (NHL) playoffs and play in that, but to go over and represent USA and come home with the first medal since '04 was pretty cool and definitely something that I enjoyed." The two of them played with Tampa Bay's Nate Thompson in the tournament. Gionta had three goals in 10 contests, while Carter had a goal and an assist in 10 games. May 23 - 11:03 AM

Stephen Gionta is the New Jersey Devils' nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

At the age of 29, Gionta has established himself as a regular at the NHL level for the first time. He had only played in 13 career NHL games going into the shortened season, but has four goals and 14 points in 44 games in 2013. "That’s a great honor," said Gionta of the nomination. "Any time you can nominated for that and any award is huge."

He left Monday's game with an upper-body injury but was able to suit up against the Bolts. Gionta had 14:13 of ice time Friday night and was minus two. We trust you are not counting on him as part of your fantasy strategy.

Stephen Gionta (upper body) practiced Thursday and could play Friday against the Lightning.

Gionta and defenseman Bryce Salvador left Monday's game with injuries but both practiced Thursday. We should know more after the team's morning skate Friday. Gionta has 10 points and 63 hits in 33 games this season.

Stephen Gionta is fine after crashing into the end boards on Sunday.

Gionta lost his balance while charging towards Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tomas Vokoun. The Penguins netminder had left the net to play the puck and Gionta explained he, "kind of clipped [Vokoun's] legs and it turned me around." Gionta's neck and back made contact with the boards first and it was a couple of minutes before he could get up and skate to the locker room. Fortunately, he was able to return and feels okay. "They just worked on my shoulders and loosened me up a little bit," he said. "I was just a little stiff."

Stephen Gionta will get a chance to play against his older brother, Brian when the Devils play against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.

The brothers previously played against each other in an NHL game on Dec. 2, 2010. I was able to play against Brian once before my first call-up. I hear Montreal is a pretty good place to play and getting a chance to play against Brian again would be pretty cool," Stephen said. "I’ve never played there, but any chance you get to play against a sibling is pretty cool. That competitive nature comes out between brothers. He won the first one, so we’ll see what happens with the second one."

Forward Stephen Gionta scored a goal to help the Albany Devils edge the Springfield Falcons 4-3 in American Hockey League action Thursday night.

Gionta was the New Jersey Devils' fourth-line center during their playoff run to the Stanley Cup Championship series last season. Also scoring for Albany Thursday night were Joe Whitney, Steve Zalewski and Harri Pesonen.

Stephen Gionta registered an assist in the Albany Devils' 3-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

The New Jersey Devils signed Gionta to a two-year contract extension this summer and he had been keeping busy by skating at the Prudential Center before joining Albany last week. Gionta became the team's fourth-line center during their playoff run to the Stanley Cup Finals and should have limited fantasy value again after the lockout.

Stephen Gionta has agreed to an AHL deal with the Albany Devils.

He was on the team's clear-day roster in 2011-12, so he was eligible to sign with New Jersey's minor-league affiliate despite having a one-way NHL deal. Gionta had been keeping busy by skating at Prudential Center and he played in a charity game with his brother, Brian, last month in Cornwall. He is hoping to get into Albany's lineup for the team's next game on Saturday against Bridgeport.

The New Jersey Devils have signed Stephen Gionta to a two-year contract extension.

What's unusual about it is, Gionta's contract is reportedly one-way in 2012-13, but a two-way deal in 2013-14. Typically, a contract will start out as a two-way deal and eventually become one-way - if it's split at all. Gionta made a name for himself during the Devils' 2012 playoff run. He had three goals and seven points in 24 games after playing in just 13 career NHL contests.

Stephen Gionta's agent, Steve Bartlett, said there has been some progress in contract negotiations with the New Jersey Devils.

"We've been chipping away at it and, hopefully, we can maybe find something that works for both of us between now and (July 1)," Bartlett said. Gionta is likely seeking a one-way contract after he became the team's fourth-line center during their playoff run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Stephen Gionta, who can become an unrestricted free agent in July, is hoping to remain in New Jersey.

"I've been in this organization for six years now and I love being here and, obviously, I hope to stay," he said. Gionta has played in 13 NHL games in his career and just one regular-season contest this past season. However, he skated in 24 playoff games with the Devils and proved himself as a hard-working fourth liner. It shouldn't be difficult to get him under a new contract if New Jersey wants him to stay.

Stephen Gionta earned a goal and an assist in New Jersey's 5-3 Game 5 win versus the Rangers on Wednesday.

His last goal came in Game 7 in the opening round against Florida, but his third marker of the playoffs got the ball rolling in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Gionta also set up Ryan Carter's game-winner late in the third to give the Devils a 3-2 series lead over New York. The fourth-liner has contributed six points in 17 postseason contests.
