Date:

Stephen Gionta (hand) will make his return on Tuesday.

It will be Gionta's first game since Dec. 29. This also is a chance for him to play against his older brother, Sabres captain Brian Gionta. Stephen has only participated in one full practice since he was hurt, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's rusty in his first game back. He'll play on the fourth line with Dainius Zubrus and Jacob Josefson.
Feb 17 - 4:41 PM

Stephen Gionta (hand) has been given the green light to participate in contact drills.

Gionta might return as early as Tuesday, but that hasn't been decided yet. He hasn't played since Dec. 29 due to the injury. He has three goals and six points in 38 contests in 2014-15.
Feb 16 - 1:34 PM

Stephen Gionta (hand) will not travel with the Devils on their upcoming two-game road trip.

That obviously rules Gionta out for Friday and Saturday's games, but he wasn't expected to return that soon anyways. He only started to partially participate in practices on Wednesday and isn't cleared for contact yet.
Feb 12 - 9:28 AM

Stephen Gionta (hand) participated in the first 15 minutes of Wednesday's practice.

Although this is a step in the right direction, Gionta skating with the team comes with a couple disclaimers. He's still not cleared for contact and isn't skating for the full length of practices. It sounds like the plan is for him to continue to skate in just the start of practices for the time being to help maintain his conditioning.
Feb 11 - 11:18 AM

Stephen Gionta (hand) won't be able to practice with the Devils for at least a couple weeks.

Gionta is still skating on his own though. He has three goals and six points in 38 games this season. He hasn't played since Dec. 29.
Feb 10 - 4:21 PM

Stephen Gionta (hand) has started skating.

Gionta hasn't played since he blocked a shot from Pittsburgh's Kris Letang on Dec. 29. It's not clear how close Gionta actually is to returning, but based on a previous timetable, he should be back by about this time next week.
Feb 6 - 10:09 AM

Stephen Gionta (hand) is wearing a soft cast and isn't skating yet.

Gionta was initially projected to miss four-to-six weeks, but he might end up exceeding that timetable. He is approaching the four-week mark of his time on the sidelines and is now expected to be out for another two-to-three weeks.
Jan 23 - 10:41 AM

Stephen Gionta will be out for four-to-six weeks with a broken hand.

Gionta sustained the injury while blocking a shot during Monday's game. He has three goals and six points in 38 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 6 - 1:35 PM

Stephen Gionta suffered a broken hand when he blocked a shot during Monday's game.

There's no timetable for Gionta's return yet, but he's already been placed on the injured reserve list. With Gionta out, Adam Henrique is expected to shift back to center so that he can play alongside Tuomo Ruutu and Steve Bernier. New Jersey also called up Mike Sislo to help fill the void.

Stephen Gionta was the beneficiary of the new coaching regime in New Jersey as he saw some time on the power play.

The Devils used Gionta for 1:51 minutes with the man-advantage, as he saw action on the second unit. Gionta had seen only 44 seconds in his previous 36 games so this was a big deal for the veteran fourth liner. He has three goals and six points this season so the bump up to the power play still does not make him fantasy worthy.

Stephen Gionta scored his third goal of the campaign Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as the Devils were defeated by Carolina by a score of 2-1 in a shootout.

Gionta is nothing more than a depth forward for the low-scoring Devils, meaning he's not worthy of your fantasy attention. His tally was assisted by Steve Bernier and Tuomo Ruutu.

Stephen Gionta scored his second goal of the season Tuesday, but it was't enough for the Devils to avoid a 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago.

New Jersey is struggling mightily to find offense so they'll take goals from whichever sources they can. With only five points in 29 contests, Gionta offers no fantasy value. Jordan Tootoo also found the back of the net in the loss.
Tue, Dec 9, 2014 10:08:00 PM

Stephen Gionta returned to New Jersey's lineup on Thursday night.

He left Tuesday's game after playing just 2:02 of ice time, but he was ready to go against Toronto. Gionta recorded his first goal of the season in the match. He has four points in 26 games this year.
Fri, Dec 5, 2014 02:08:00 AM

Devils forward Stephen Gionta exited Tuesday's contest against the Penguins due to an apparent injury.

The nature or severity of the ailment is not known, but Gionta joins Jaromir Jagr and Patrik Elias as New Jersey players to suffer an injury Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day until further notice.
