Carl Gunnarsson is dealing with concussion symptoms again.

It looked like Gunnarsson was finally in the clear as far as his head injury goes, but that's not the case. The Blues will play in San Jose on Saturday, but Gunnarsson has been sent back to St. Louis. He also recently experienced stiffness in his surgically-repaired hip.
Dec 19 - 4:58 PM

Carl Gunnarsson is in the clear from his concussion, but now he's dealing with some stiffness in his surgically-repaired hip.

"He's a guy that's going to need some practice times here before he's ready to play," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "I can't really give you a time frame. Is it one, two, three, four practices before we're ready to go? He's going to be able to tell us that." He won't be available to play on Thursday.
Dec 18 - 1:04 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (concussion) has been given the green light to start skating.

Gunnarsson, who hasn't played since Dec. 6, joined his teammates on the ice Tuesday. As is the case with concussions, it's hard to say when he'll be able to play and he needs to get his conditioning back up as well.
Dec 16 - 12:32 PM

Carl Gunnarsson is skating but he is not ready to play.

He is recovering from his first career concussion that he sustained last week. We expect the Blues' rearguard will take it slow and may need another week before he subjects himself to NHL protocol testing.
Dec 13 - 2:15 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (upper body) has been moved to injured reserve.

He sustained what is believed to be a concussion on Dec. 6 when he was elbowed in the face by Anders Lee of the Islanders. There's no timetable for his return.
Dec 11 - 2:13 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (upper body) is doubtful to play Monday.

He was elbowed in the face by the Islanders forward Anders Lee on Saturday. He's being re-evaluated by doctors and the Blues should know more later today.
Dec 8 - 1:30 PM

St. Louis Blues defenseman Carl Gunnarsson won't return to Saturday's game against the New York Islanders thanks to an elbow by Anders Lee.

Gunnarsson's issue is labeled an upper-body injury. Lee hasn't ever been suspended by the NHL and wasn't even penalized for what looked like a questionable hit.
Dec 6 - 3:44 PM

Carl Gunnarsson is still adjusting after returning from a surgically repaired left hip.

"It takes a while to get into good habits, everyday habits — execute at a higher pace," he said. "There's been a couple of situations where I feel like I haven't really been up there. I still need to step it up a little bit." Gunnarsson has played in eight games with the Blues since making his season debut on Oct. 28. He's averaged 14:14 of ice time, while posting one assist and nine blocks.
Nov 12 - 2:53 PM

Carl Gunnarsson's playing time might be limited in his Blues debut on Tuesday.

Gunnarsson hasn't played since April 10 due to a hip injury. Blues coach Ken Hitchcock plans to monitor his minutes and probably won't use Gunnarsson to help kill penalties. Gunnarsson will start the game on the third defensive pairing with Barret Jackman.
Oct 28 - 3:39 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (hip) will make his St. Louis debut Tuesday night against Dallas.

He has been on the sidelines since undergoing hip surgery during the off-season. Gunnarsson was initially expected to play in Blues' top-four group, so he may be paired with Kevin Shattenkirk or Alex Pietrangelo. However, his role for Tuesday's contest in unclear.
Oct 27 - 1:36 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (hip) skated with the extras on Thursday morning.

It's probably doubtful that he'll play this weekend, but he is getting close to making his St. Louis debut. Gunnarsson is trying to work his way back from off-season hip surgery.
Oct 16 - 6:36 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (hip) fully participated in Tuesday's practice.

"The next step is to keep on practicing and make sure that it doesn't bother me, not even mentally thinking about it," Gunnarsson said. "It's way better than before. It felt pretty good. I'm just trying to get back into game pace before stepping into a real game." It's doubtful he'll be ready by Thursday, but it's possible he'll be available at some point during the Blues' three-game road trip.
Oct 15 - 1:00 PM

Carl Gunnarsson (hip) received clearance for contact on Monday, but it's still unclear when he'll make his St. Louis debut.

He had off-season hip surgery, which limited him at training camp and kept him on the shelf for the Blues' first two games of the season. Now, he needs to see how he responds to contact, but he's inching closer to being in the lineup. When he's able to play it's likely he will be partnered with Alex Pietrangelo because the Blues like the defense tandem of Jay Bouwmeester and Kevin Shattenkirk.
Oct 14 - 10:29 AM

Carl Gunnarsson (hip) wasn't wearing a no-contact jersey during Thursday's morning session.

"He can take it as far as he can," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He's going to see medical people on Monday and hopefully get clearance, so hopefully that will put him in the mix for everybody." He still hasn't received full clearance, but that could come soon. Gunnarsson is considered day-to-day with a hip injury.
