Viktor Stalberg rang a puck off the crossbar midway through the third period after colliding with the endboards head first on his first shift of the game.
It was quite a series debut for Stalberg, who was a healthy scratch the last two games. Despite hitting the crossbar, Stalberg showed the elite speed that could make him a difference maker if coach Joel Quenneville leaves him in the lineup. Truth be told, it's amazing he was even in the game in the third considering the scary nature of his first-period collision. We'll have to see if he remains active for Thursday's Game 4. Viktor Stalberg briefly left Monday's Game 3 after missing on a hit and going into the endboards head first.

Stalberg stayed down on all fours immediately following the very scary collision. He eventually skated off under his own power but went straight to the locker room. Stalberg returned to the bench after only a few minutes and eventually took another shift. Stalberg is making his series debut after being a healthy scratch in Games 1 and 2.

Viktor Stalberg is projected to play with Bryan Bickell and Andrew Shaw in his return to the lineup in Game 3 against Detroit.

"That's always a challenge, you can be maybe a little too excited," said Stalberg who has been a healthy scratch for the past two games. "But I'll just keep it simple, play hard and use my assets to my advantage." He had one assist in five games against Minnesota in the first round.

The Chicago Blackhawks will add Viktor Stalberg back into the lineup for Game 3 against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

The Blackhawks probably want to add some more scoring punch to the mix after being neutralized by the Red Wings in Game 2. He's struggled in the playoffs with just one assist in five playoff games, but was solid in the regular season, scoring 23 points in 47 contests.
May 19 - 1:47 PM

Viktor Stalberg won't participate in Game 2.

Stalberg was also a healthy scratch for the opening game of Chicago's second-round series against Detroit. Stalberg recently spoke to Quenneville about what he needs to do to get back into the lineup. "Nothing too different, but he wants me to produce more and be more effective out there," Stalberg said.

Viktor Stalberg may not be in the Chicago lineup once again in Game 2 Saturday.

Stalberg was a healthy scratch in Game 1 and was wearing a white jersey in practice Friday, a sign that he would not be dressing for Game 2. Stalberg is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season but doesn't think sitting in the press box during the playoffs will affect that status. "Whether I'm here next year or not, we'll see what happens. That's something we’ll take (up) after the year," Stalberg said. "It's nothing I'm really too concerned about at this point. We'll figure that one out after, hopefully, we hoist the Cup here."

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville would like to see Viktor Stalberg play with more intensity.

"It's nothing you've never heard before," Stalberg said. "Most guys, when they're not playing, get to hear that. Nothing too different, but he wants me to produce more and be more effective out there. Hopefully I can get back and I'll try to make a difference." Stalberg was a healthy scratch for Game 1 of Chicago's second-round series.
May 17 - 2:23 PM

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville won't announce if Viktor Stalberg will return to Chicago's lineup for Game 2.

Stalberg was a healthy scratch in the series opener because of Dave Bolland's return. Stalberg is a solid secondary scorer with nine goals and 23 points in 47 regular season games.

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville denied reports that he scratched Viktor Stalberg on Wednesday night because the winger questioned his lack of ice time on the power play.

"First of all, that story is 100 percent inaccurate," Quenneville said Thursday. "Viktor didn't play, he knows the reasons why. It's nothing to do with anything about our conversation. It was strictly nothing to do with that at all. That situation wasn't even addressed." He said that someone had to come out to make room for Dave Bolland's return and "tough decisions" had to be made.

Viktor Stalberg will be a healthy scratch Wednesday in Game 1 versus Detroit.

He has skated as an extra forward for four straight practices, including Wednesday's morning session. Stalberg skated in 47 games during the regular season and all five of the Hawks' playoff contests in Round 1. He had one assist and eight shots versus Minnesota in Chicago's quarterfinal series. The move is classified as a coach's decision. "I had a conversation with him, so he knows how it stands," Chicago bench boss Joel Quenneville said. "He knows what the situation is. We'll leave it at that."
May 15 - 12:35 PM

Viktor Stalberg practiced as an extra forward again Tuesday afternoon.

Stalberg was short when asked about his status Tuesday, telling the media corps to "Ask Q," which of course refers to coach Joel Quenneville. For his part, Quenneville had almost nothing to say about Stalberg's status for Wednesday's Game 1."Stay ready," Quenneville said when asked what Stalberg needs to do to get in the lineup. "Nobody said he's out of the lineup. Make decisions tough on us." OK then.
May 14 - 2:53 PM

Viktor Stalberg may be a healthy scratch in Game 1 Wednesday of Round 2 against Detroit.

He did not skate on any of the team's top four lines during Monday's practice. Coach Joel Quenneville said, "we'll see" when asked whether Stalberg would play when the semifinals of the Western Conference begins. He had one assist in Game 1 versus Minnesota in the opening round, but didn't get a point after that.

Viktor Stalberg setup Bryan Bickell's game-winning overtime goal on Tuesday.

Stalberg had nine goals and 23 points in 47 games this season. The Blackhawks depth was a big part of their success in the 2013 season and it was certainly a strength in Game 1 of their first-round series.

Viktor Stalberg netted his seventh goal of the season on Thursday.

That ended Stalberg's 14 game goal scoring drought. He has 18 points in 36 games this season and is likely to maintain that pace for what's left of the 2013 campaign.

Viktor Stalberg played on Sunday after taking 50-60 stitches in his jaw Friday after taking a puck in his face off a shot courtesy of Ryan Getzlaf.

"It kind of hit a bad spot," said Stalberg, who used a shield that covered his jaw. "I didn't really notice it too much out there. I had a little protection there so it was fine. It's all about not getting hit there again and it will be OK." Stalberg has six goals and 17 points this season but has been held off the scoresheet in his last five games. Of course, he did have a good excuse yesterday.
