Marcus Foligno has agreed to a two-year, $3.75 million contract extension.
Foligno had 19 points and 82 penalty minutes in 74 games with the Sabres in 2013-14. It's not surprising that he ended up getting a bridge deal after his entry-level contract expired. He's got some offensive upside and he'll get a far more lucrative contract next time if he can live up to his potential. Jul 2 - 8:32 AM

Marcus Foligno understands what his coaches expect him from him and he intends to be better next season.

"They've taught me a lot about what it takes to play in this league," Foligno said. "They've been getting some messages across once in a while. If you're ready to play every night, you're going to get ice time. If you're not, the ice time is going to slowly dwindle. I know this summer is a big summer for me. You have to be ready for training camp. I think that's all they want from us. The standards are going to be higher, and they expect more right from the get-go next year." It was a disappointing year for Foligno, who endured six scoring slumps of seven games or more, including a pair of 11-game droughts without a point. He finished the season with seven goals and 19 points in 74 contests. Foligno also had a shoulder injury at the end of the year and it hasn't been determined yet if he'll have surgery.

No ACL, MCL, meniscus. I was able to keep icing it, days off and today back on the ice." He is considered to be close to returning to the lineup and could play as soon as Tuesday night.
