More of the same for the Sabres in the season finale — no offense. Foligno had eight goals and 20 points this year and would seem to have some upside if there were some playmakers around him.

Marcus Foligno scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season in a 4-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Friday evening.

The slump has finally been broken as Foligno scored two goals for his first goals in 25 games. He now has eight goals and 19 points with 50 penalty minutes in 53 games overall this season.

It was another embarrassing loss for the Sabres. "For players that are going to be here next year and down the road, you’ve got to be ready to go and build for the future," Foligno said. This was Foligno's first game back in the lineup after he was forced to miss 19 games with a hand injury. The Sabres were down 3-0 in the middle of the second period when they scored the final two goals of the game to make the score respectable. Foligno now has six goals and 11 points in 29 games. Drew Stafford also scored for Buffalo. The Sabres were only able to muster an embarrassing 10 shots on goal in the game.

The Sabres are taking on the Islanders at 5:00 PM EST on Sunday. The 23-year-old has missed 19 consecutive games because of the injury. He has five goals and nine points in 28 games this season. He has decent long-term upside but his outlook for the rest of this season is limited. Cody Hodgson will sit to make room for Foligno.

Marcus Foligno registered a goal and an assist in the Buffalo Sabres' 5-4 shootout win over the visiting Ottawa Senators Monday night.

Foligno scored his fifth goal of the season and picked up his fourth assist. Brian Flynn also collected a goal and an assist for Buffalo. His goal, scored at 16:31 of the third period, was his fourth of the season and tied the game at 4-4. His assist, on Foligno's goal, was his third of the season. Also producing goals for Buffalo were Rasmus Ristolainen, his second, and Matt Moulson, his seventh. The Sabres (13-16-2) have won four games in a row and six straight at home. They have won 10 of their past 13 games.

Marcus Foligno had a strong first game as a center Thursday night against Calgary.

He scored a goal, his first since October 14th and won 70% of his faceoffs. Foligno will once again line up as a pivot Saturday against Florida even with the return of Cody Hodgson to the lineup, who will also play as a center. Foligno will once again be flanked by Nicolas Deslauriers and Drew Stafford. We aren't, however, recommending him at this time.

The Sabres are making Cody Hodgson a healthy scratch, so Foligno will move to center to replace him. He's expected to play on a line with Drew Stafford and Chris Stewart. The 23-year-old has two goals and five points in 22 games this season.
