The New York Rangers have acquired Benn Ferriero from Pittsburgh in exchange for forward Chad Kolarik in a minor-league deal.

Ferriero has tallied four goals and 18 points in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this campaign. In 92 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks over the last three seasons, he compiled 14 markers and 22 points. He signed a one-year, two-way with the Penguins in the summer.

Benn Ferriero did not get a qualifying offer from San Jose, so he will get to test the market as an unrestricted free agent.

The 25-year-old forward has appeared in 92 NHL games with the Sharks over the past three seasons. "It ended up being a mutual thing," GM Doug Wilson said. "He played hard for us, he just couldn't quite solidify a regular spot, and we have a lot of depth at the center position and right side."

Benn Ferriero was a healthy scratch Thursday.

He was replaced in the lineup by Torrey Mitchell. Just an FYI as neither player has any fantasy value.

Benn Ferriero was the only goal scorer in a 1-0 win for the San Jose Sharks against the Calgary Flames.

Ferriero seems to have a knack for scoring in big moments as three of his six goals this season has been game-winners. That might give him some fantasy value if it were sustainable, but it's hard to imagine this being anything but a coincidence.

San Jose recalled Benn Ferriero from Worcester (AHL), where he was leading the team in scoring.

With Martin Havlat out for at least Wednesday's game against Tampa Bay, Ferriero was called up for what will be his second stint with the Sharks. He played four games in October, recording one goal. Ferriero, who skated with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski on Tuesday morning, was 9-11-20 in 20 games for Worcester.
