Benn Ferriero hopes to compete for a roster spot during Vancouver's training camp.

"I didn’t get a chance to play up (in the NHL) much last year, so that’s kind of sticking in my craw a little bit," said Ferriero. "I feel like I can step in and play in the league." Ferriero inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Vancouver Canucks. Last season he enjoyed a four-game stint with the New York Rangers, so he already has a bit of experience under new Canucks bench boss John Tortorella.

Minnesota Wild decline to offer qualifying offers to Ben Ferriero and Joel Broad.

Ferriero came over in a draft-day trade that sent defenseman Justin Falk to the Rangers, but it's clear now that was a pure roster move by the Rangers. The Wild also got a sixth-round pick in the deal. Broda has spent the past three seasons bouncing around the AHL and ECHL since being a fifth-round pick of the Capitals in 2008.

The Minnesota Wild have acquired a sixth round pick and the rights to Benn Ferriero to the New York Rangers in exchange for Justin Falk.

Ferriero, like Falk, is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer. Ferriero only played in four NHL games last season and recorded an assist. At the age of 26, he has 23 points in 96 career contests.

He picked up the lone helper on defenseman Michael Del Zotto's second goal of the year. Ferriero concluded the match with just 8:21 of ice time in his second appearance with the Blueshirts following his acquisition from Pittsburgh.

Ferriero has tallied four goals and 18 points in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this campaign. In 92 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks over the last three seasons, he compiled 14 markers and 22 points. He signed a one-year, two-way with the Penguins in the summer.
