Kevin Poulin could be Tampa Bay's backup goalie for the start of the season.
He has appeared in 50 NHL games in his career, while his main competition for the role, Kristers Gudlevskis, has played in one regular season contest. "We know what Kevin's talents are, we know what Guddy has and they are both guys that can play in the NHL," coach Jon Cooper said. "I guess I'm not really worried about that. But I guess one guy is going to get it over the other, and eventually who that is going to be we'll have to see over the next few weeks." It should be noted that the Lightning may keep a close eye on the waiver wire for help as well if they don't feel comfortable with Poulin or Gudlevskis. Oct 2 - 10:56 AM

The Tampa Bay Lightning have claimed Kevin Poulin on waivers from the New York Islanders.

The Lightning have Ray Emery and Kristers Gudlevskis competing for the team's backup job behind Ben Bishop. Andrei Vasilevskyi was supposed to fill that role but he is out with a blood clot. Poulin played in just one game with the Islanders last season. He had a 16-21 record with a 2.87 goals-against-average and a. 912 save percentage in the AHL last season.

He will earn $600,000 in the NHL and $275,000 at the AHL level. Poulin posted a 16-21-7 record with a .912 save percentage and a 2.87 goals-against average with New York's minor-league affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, last season.
Aug 11 - 3:28 PM

Kevin Poulin has been assigned to the minors.

He served as Michal Neuvirth's backup for the last two games, while Jaroslav Halak recovered from a lower-body injury. Halak is healthy again so Poulin will resume playing for Bridgeport in the AHL.
Mar 19 - 1:45 PM

Kevin Poulin has been called up by the New York Islanders.

Poulin will presumably serve as the backup goaltender on Tuesday as Jaroslav Halak is out with a lower-body injury. Poulin has a 2.82 GAA and .915 save percentage in 39 AHL contests in 2014-15.
Mar 17 - 2:36 PM

With Jaroslav Halak activated, the New York Islanders opted to send Kevin Poulin back to the AHL on Sunday.

Poulin allowed three goals on 26 shots as the Islanders blew a 3-0 lead and lost against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. In 50 career NHL games, the 24-year-old has a poor .899 save percentage.

Kevin Poulin made 23 saves as the Islanders came up short 4-3 in the shootout to the Sabres on Saturday night.

This one could’ve turned out differently with Jaroslav Halak in net. Poulin was called up Saturday morning and got the start over Chad Johnson with Halak dealing with a lower-body injury. The Islanders were leading 3-0 entering the third period. Then Poulin allowed three goals on six shots to essentially force extra time. He has a 3.07 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 50 NHL starts in his career.

Updating a previous post, it will be Kevin Poulin in net for the Islanders and not Chad Johnson.

Poulin shut out Providence yesterday in AHL action as he made 34 saves. Adjust your lineup if necessary.

The New York Islanders have recalled Kevin Poulin from the minors.

Poulin played with Bridgeport last night and stopped all 34 shots in a 2-0 shutout over the Providence Bruins. He will back up Chad Johnson tonight.
Sat, Dec 27, 2014 10:32:00 AM

The New York Islanders returned Kevin Poulin to the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Poulin was called up on Tuesday because Jaroslav Halak was dealing with an undisclosed injury. Halak is presumably okay for Saturday's game, but if that proves to not be the case than Poulin will be brought back up.
Fri, Dec 26, 2014 06:40:00 PM

Kevin Poulin has been summoned from the minors.

He will serve as Chad Johnson's backup on Tuesday night. Jaroslav Halak has been off for the past two days for "maintenance," but it sounds like he is dealing with an injury.
Tue, Dec 23, 2014 04:58:00 PM

Kevin Poulin has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the New York Islanders.

Poulin comes with a $650,000 annual cap hit, but he'll technically only make $175,000 per season at the AHL level. We say technically because his contract comes with a guarantee that he'll earn no less than $275,000 annually, so he'll end up getting at least that amount even if he never gets called up to the Islanders.
Thu, Jul 24, 2014 10:46:00 AM

Kevin Poulin has an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 30.

Poulin is coming off of a one-year, two-way contract that paid him $577,500 annually at the NHL level. He's not expected to make the Islanders' opening game roster.
Wed, Jul 9, 2014 04:28:00 PM

Kevin Poulin has been loaned to AHL Bridgeport.

The Islanders want him to get more playing time in the minors. Anders Nilsson will back up Evgeni Nabokov for the time being instead.
