Cody Eakin skated alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin during Monday's practice.
That would obviously be a great opportunity for Eakin, but Stars coach Lindy Ruff wouldn't commit to going with that line on Tuesday. Eakin typically centers the third line, but he would shift to the right wing in order to play with Benn and Seguin. Oct 13 - 4:15 PM

Cody Eakin potted a goal in Dallas' 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago.

He didn't look rusty at all despite missing most of training camp, while waiting for a new contract. Eakin also won 14 draws and lost just nine versus the Blackhawks. He finished the match with 18:31 of ice time, while seeing plenty of action on special teams (3:05 on PP and 3:00 on PK).
Oct 10 - 11:49 AM

Cody Eakin has agreed to a two-year, $3.8 million contract with the Dallas Stars.

Eakin has missed most of the preseason, but at least he has a week and a half to get back up to speed before the Stars' season opener. He's projected to be Dallas' third-line center after Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza.
Sep 29 - 4:33 PM

Contract negotiations between the Dallas Stars and restricted free-agent Cody Eakin haven’t progressed very much.

Eakin and the Stars don’t seem to agree on what his fair market value is. The 23-year-old has no arbitration rights and therefore has missed all of training camp holding out. Eakin scored 16 goals and 35 points in 81 games with the Stars last season. If Eakin returns to Dallas, he will be the team’s third line centre behind Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza.
Sep 28 - 12:29 PM

Restricted free agent Cody Eakin is taking part in workouts in Winnipeg.

He notched 16 goals and 19 assists in 81 game last campaign. However, negotiations could get complicated because now his role on the team has changed with the off-season acquisition of Jason Spezza. Eakin is expected to be bumped to the third line this year. If something isn't worked out quickly then he could be a no-show for the start of training camp.
Sep 18 - 1:05 PM

Cody Eakin still needs a contract from the Dallas Stars.

He's a restricted free agent after completing his entry-level deal, so a two-year, bridge contract is a very good possibility. Negotiations will probably ramp up as training camp draws closer. Eakin lost some bargaining power when the Stars acquired Jason Spezza in the off-season because now he's projected to center the third line instead of the second unit.
Aug 29 - 2:10 PM

Cody Eakin is expected to fall to the third line now that Jason Spezza has been added to the Dallas Stars.

That's good news for the Stars because it helps solidify their bottom-six, but obviously it'll be less pleasant for Eakin owners. He had 16 goals and 35 points in 81 games last season and isn't worth drafting in standard fantasy leagues.
Jul 2 - 9:14 AM

Cody Eakin generated a goal and an assist in Game 6 versus Anaheim.

He scored a power-play goal in the first period and earned an assist on Ryan Garbutt's tally to give Dallas a 3-1 lead. The Ducks rallied late in the third to win the game 5-4 in overtime and eliminated the Stars in six games. Eakin, who was playing in his first Stanley Cup Playoffs, concluded the series with five points. He had 16 markers and 35 points in 81 matches during the regular season.

Apr 24 - 12:07 PM

Cody Eakin is excited to make his NHL playoff debut on Wednesday night.

"I love playoff hockey," he said. "I really do think it brings out the best in you and makes you a better player. It's just an exciting time." His experience with postseason play is in the AHL and WHL, but the intensity remains in the same in the NHL. Eakin had 16 goals and 35 points for the Stars in 81 games this year.

Mar 17 - 1:28 AM

Coach Lindy Ruff believes that Cody Eakin (foot) will be available to play Sunday.

"I would anticipate him being ready to play," Ruff said. "We got him out there, he felt pretty good, and as a precaution I told him to go off and get an off-ice workout." He missed Friday's game with a foot injury on a blocked shot.
Mar 15 - 5:14 PM

Cody Eakin did skate a little Saturday morning but left the ice before the official Dallas practice.

He is dealing with some kind of lower-body injury. That said, there is a good chance Eakin will be able to play Sunday against the Jets.
