Gustav Nyquist said he's fine to play on Friday.
That's not surprising, but we're making note of it because Nyquist skipped Thursday's practice for maintenance reasons. He has 10 goals and 37 points in 66 games this season. Mar 24 - 11:13 AM

Gustav Nyquist had the day off on Thursday, but is still projected to play on Friday against Tampa Bay.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill described Nyquist as just taking a maintenance day. In 66 games this season Nyquist has posted 10 goals and 37 points with 43 hits.
Mar 23 - 1:43 PM

Gustav Nyquist snapped his five-game goal drought during Saturday's 5-1 win over the Avalanche.

He also collected an assist in the effort, giving him a goal and six points over his last five games. For the season Nyquist has posted 10 goals and 37 points in 64 games.
Mar 18 - 4:54 PM

Gustav Nyquist has been red hot lately with six points in his last four games.

Unfortunately it's been a bright spot in what is likely going to be seen as an underwhelming season for Nyquist as he has nine goals and 35 points in 61 contests. Nyquist had 28 goals in 2013-14 and 27 markers in 2014-15, but his shooting percentage has faded heavily as his career has progressed. His 2016-17 shooting percentage is 6.7% against his career average of 12%. His 2013-14 mark of 18.3% was unsustainable so it's not surprising to see him dip, but his current 6.7% could be seen as a deviation as well from the other end of the spectrum once his career as a whole is played out.
Mar 13 - 10:02 AM

Gustav Nyquist scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He hadn't found the back of the net in any of his last 12 games. The Red Wings were trailing 3-0 in the second period when Nyquist finally got his team on the board with less than a minute remaining in the middle frame. The Wings forward added another goal in the third period to cut the lead to 3-2, but that's as close as Detroit would come to tying the game. Nyquist has nine goals and 31 points in 58 games this season.
Mar 7 - 11:07 PM

Gustav Nyquist (illness) will be in the lineup on Tuesday night.

He skipped Monday's practice because of a stomach bug, but he feels good to go against Toronto. Nyquist is projected to play with Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Tatar on the top line.
Mar 7 - 1:39 PM

Gustav Nyquist missed practice Monday because of an illness.

He is suffering from a stomach bug. If he isn't feeling better Tuesday then Mitchell Callahan may play in his place.
Mar 6 - 1:13 PM

Gustav Nyquist will return from his suspension on Saturday night.

He has been out for the last six games. It's likely that he will skate alongside Frans Nielsen and Andreas Athanasiou, which will drop Riley Sheahan to the fourth line with Luke Glendening and Drew Miller.
Mar 4 - 2:50 PM

Gustav Nyquist will serve the last game of his suspension on Friday night.

He was banned for six games for a high-sticking incident on Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon. Detroit called up Mitch Callahan Wednesday to have 12 forwards after the team traded Steve Ott and Thomas Vanek prior to the deadline.
Mar 2 - 9:55 AM

Gustav Nyquist has received a six-game suspension for high-sticking Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon.

His lack of suspension history and the fact that Spurgeon was OK probably played factors in the decision. However, this is the low end of what most were expecting given how vicious the incident looked. Nyquist will be eligible to return March 4 against Edmonton.
Feb 15 - 5:23 PM

Gustav Nyquist will have a phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday afternoon.

He has waived his right to an in-person hearing. Nyquist could be facing a lengthy suspension after he was involved in a dangerous high-sticking play against Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon on Sunday.
Feb 13 - 6:34 PM

Gustav Nyquist has been offered an in-person hearing for his retaliatory high-stick to the face of Jared Spurgeon on Sunday.

Nyquist appears to be in line for at least a six-game suspension but may receive more given the nature of the foul. Date and time for the hearing has not yet be determined.
Feb 12 - 8:36 PM

Gustav Nyquist picked up an assist and a possible suspension during Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Wild.

The helper gives him 22 on the season and 29 points in 56 games thus far. The suspension however, may come for his vicious retaliatory high-stick to the face of Minnesota defenseman Jared Spurgeon. We should know more on Monday.
Feb 12 - 6:47 PM

Gustav Nyquist didn't have a role on Detroit's power-play combinations during Thursday's practice.

Coach Jeff Blashill also removed Anthony Mantha from power-play drills because he didn't like the efforts of both players when the Red Wings surrendered two shorthanded goals to New Jersey on Tuesday night. "We talked about that," Nyquist said. "We have to make sure we do the little things right and we didn't do that on that play. Coach makes the decisions on the power play and, right now, we're off it. I'll be ready if I get called again." Dylan Larkin and Riley Sheahan got power-play time at practice instead. We'll see how long those changes last.
Feb 3 - 8:35 AM

It appears the Blackhawks wouldn't mind picking up Gustav Nyquist from the Red Wings.

As report Mark Lazerus notes, all reports ought to be taken with a grain of salt this time of year. But it's an interesting change in strategy for the perennial Cup-contenders, picking up a player with plenty of term left on his deal. The 27-year-old is on pace for his worst career season with just 17 points in 46 games and carries a $4.75M cap hit for two additional seasons after this.
