Detroit GM Ken Holland doesn't expect Gustav Nyquist to miss much time after he was hurt on a knee-on-knee hit in Saturday's preseason contest versus Boston.

"Dr. Plagens said there was no significant injury," Holland said Sunday afternoon. "I'm assuming he's sore, but Gus hasn't reached out to anybody saying his knee has ballooned up. It looked scary at the time but the initial word is that it looks like a day-to-day, short-term injury." We'll keep you posted on his recovery as the regular season is just around the corner.
Sep 29 - 9:42 AM

Gustav Nyquist suffered an undisclosed injury in the final minute of Saturday’s game.

There’s no word on what the injury is or how it occurred. General manager Ken Holland says it looks like Nyquist will be OK, but the team will learn more Sunday. When it comes to injuries, Detroit is picking right where it left off last season. Nyquist is a key player for the Red Wings, with 28 goals and 48 points in his first full extended run in the NHL (57 games). He is expected to play on one of the team's top two lines.
Sep 27 - 10:01 PM

Detroit coach Mike Babcock is trying to temper his expectations for Gustav Nyquist.

"I don't know if he's going to score that many goals, but he's going to get that many points," said Babcock. Nyquist scored 28 goals and he had 48 points in 57 games last campaign. He's projected to start the season in the Red Wings' top-six group, which carries more responsibility and Babcock wants to see consistency. "If you're a top-six forward, you've got to play 200 feet and you've got to do it every single night and you've got to be mentally tough," said Detroit's bench boss. "And if you're a bottom-six forward, maybe you don't have to be dialed in as much. But those guys, even in the bottom six, they're worker bees."
Sep 23 - 7:30 AM

Expectations will be higher on Gustav Nyquist this upcoming season.

The good news is that he's expected to be placed in situations where he can succeed. Nyquist is slated to start the season on one of Detroit's top-two lines and he'll get time on the power play. He registered 28 goals and 20 assists in 57 games last year. Nyquist has the skill to be a regular 20-goal threat and he should threaten the 30-goal mark again in 2014-15.

Gustav Nyquist assisted on Linus Klasen's game-winning goal against Norway on Tuesday in World Hockey Championship preliminary round play.

The Swedes won the contest 2-1 to stay in first place in Group A. Nyquist has a goal and an assist in three games at the tournament so far.
May 14 - 8:11 AM

Gustav Nyquist has yet to register a point in this season's playoffs.

In four games against Boston, Nyquist has taken 11 shots on goal but has not found the back of the net nor has he registered an assist. The Wings are going to need Nyquist to regain the form he showed in February and March if they are to avoid elimination Saturday.
Apr 26 - 10:12 AM

Gustav Nyquist and the Red Wings were shut out by Tuukka Rask and the Bruins in a 3-0 loss in Game 3 on Tuesday night.

Nyquist has not scored in nine games since lighting up the NHL with 12 goals in 13 games right before this slump. The Red Wings need to find a way to solve the Bruins' stingy defense and goaltender, as they have managed just two goals in three games. The offense will look to get going on Thursday night.
Apr 22 - 10:35 PM

So far, it seems like the bounces haven't been going Gustav Nyquist's way lately in the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Nyquist has failed to score in the Detroit Red Wings' first two playoff games. Dating back to the regular season, he has a four-game scoring slump and an eight-game goalless drought. To his credit, the effort has been there; he generated four SOG as the Red Wings lost 4-1 to the Boston Bruins in Game 2 on Sunday.
Apr 20 - 6:17 PM

Gustav Nyquist was at it again Wednesday as he notched the game-winning goal for the Red Wings in a 3-2 defeat of the Bruins.

Apr 2 - 10:47 PM

Gustav Nyquist has earned the second star of the month.

Nyquist is the reason the Detroit Red Wings are on the verge of making the playoffs for a 23rd straight season. With several of Detroit's best players out, Nyquist has stepped up with 12 goals and 18 points in 15 March games. That makes this his best month to date, but he's been great all season and has been giving the Red Wings a reason to believe that they might come out the other end of this transitional period as a strong team.

The Detroit Red Wings enjoyed another big win in part because of Gustav Nyquist's continued dominance; he extended his point streak to nine games with another goal in a 3-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

He now has 27 goals on the season, including 22 in his last 27 games. Overall, he has 45 points in 50 games played, but numbers like that might not even do justice to the hot streak he's on. He's somehow only owned in 60 percent of Yahoo leagues, so you'd be wise to take a look at see if he's available in yours.
