Gustav Nyquist has received a six-game suspension for high-sticking Minnesota's Jared Spurgeon.
His lack of suspension history and the fact that Spurgeon was OK probably played factors in the decision. However, this is the low end of what most were expecting given how vicious the incident looked. Nyquist will be eligible to return March 4 against Edmonton. Feb 15 - 5:23 PM

Gustav Nyquist has been offered an in-person hearing for his retaliatory high-stick to the face of Jared Spurgeon on Sunday.

Gustav Nyquist picked up an assist and a possible suspension during Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Wild.

Feb 12 - 6:47 PM

Gustav Nyquist didn't have a role on Detroit's power-play combinations during Thursday's practice.

Coach Jeff Blashill also removed Anthony Mantha from power-play drills because he didn't like the efforts of both players when the Red Wings surrendered two shorthanded goals to New Jersey on Tuesday night. "We talked about that," Nyquist said. "We have to make sure we do the little things right and we didn't do that on that play. Coach makes the decisions on the power play and, right now, we're off it. I'll be ready if I get called again." Dylan Larkin and Riley Sheahan got power-play time at practice instead. We'll see how long those changes last.
Feb 3 - 8:35 AM

It appears the Blackhawks wouldn't mind picking up Gustav Nyquist from the Red Wings.

As report Mark Lazerus notes, all reports ought to be taken with a grain of salt this time of year. But it's an interesting change in strategy for the perennial Cup-contenders, picking up a player with plenty of term left on his deal. The 27-year-old is on pace for his worst career season with just 17 points in 46 games and carries a $4.75M cap hit for two additional seasons after this.
Jan 21 - 5:16 PM

Gustav Nyquist has heated up since moving to a line with Henrik Zetterberg and Anthony Mantha.

He has produced three goals and three assists in the past four games. It's been a disappointing season for Nyquist, who has seven markers and 24 points in 45 games, but his recent hot streak is encouraging. He could be in store for a much better second half.
Jan 20 - 8:08 AM

Gustav Nyquist will play in his 300th career NHL game on Thursday against the Kings.

Through the first 299 games, the 27-year-old has posted 80 goals and 176 points. Not too shabby at all. He has four goals and 18 points in 38 games. Expect that to pick up.
Jan 5 - 8:49 PM

Gustav Nyquist is in the midst of a huge scoring drought.

The Wings' talented forward has scored only one goal in Detroit's last 22 games. That's just not going to cut it. Many had predicted that Nyquist would rebound in 2016-17 after a lackluster 2015-16 campaign in which he scored only 17 goals and registered 43 points. So far, it does not appear that Nyquist is going to get back to his 2014-15 form of 54 points.

Gustav Nyquist snapped his five-game point drought during Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over Winnipeg.

He recorded an assist to give him 11 helpers and 15 points in 27 games this season. That is not quite the type of production that the Wings hoped from him.

Gustav Nyquist scored in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout win to the Buffalo Sabres.

He snapped his 13-game goalless drought in the process. Nyquist opened the scoring at the 16:00 mark of the second period. He's now picked up three points in his last four games. Nyquist also scored one of Detroit's two goals in the shootout. He currently has four goals and nine assists in 20 games this season. He's a streaky scorer, so he tends to run hot and cold.

Gustav Nyquist notched his third assist in the last five games Sunday night.

Unfortunately, he hasn't scored a goal since he had a pair against San Jose back on Oct. 22. "It's hard not to think about it, and that's no secret," Nyquist said. "And I think that goes for a lot of guys in this room, right now. You've just got to try to stay positive and work hard, and hopefully you get a goal and get going." He has scored three goals in 19 games this year, but he has contributed nine assists.

Gustav Nyquist has gotten off to a red hot start with three goals and seven points in six games.

The hope is that Nyquist can not only bounce back from his rough 2015-16 campaign, but also surpass his career-high of 54 points set in 2014-15. It's still very early, so his success thus far has to be taken with a grain of salt, but this would be a particularly good season for him to step up given that Detroit is adapting to life without Pavel Datsyuk.
