Johan Franzen continued to be a playoff scoring machine, scoring a pair of goals and giving him 73 points in 88 playoff games. Gustav Nyquist lit the lamp in Detroit's 4-2 loss to the Wild on Wednesday night.

Nyquist, who played 12:24 and fired four shots on goal, has two points in three games since his recall. There's some great skill here -- the 23-year-old had 23 goals and 37 assists in the AHL -- but there's going to be some ups and downs as with any young player who adjusts to the NHL game. Drew Miller had the other goal for the Wings.

He'll draw back into the lineup in the place of Patrick Eaves, who has a jaw injury. "He played a game last night; give him a six-hour bus ride, let him sleep for a bit and we'll let him play tonight to see how mentally tough he is," said a tongue-in-cheek Mike Babcock. Gustav Nyquist might get an opportunity to play alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen.

Those were Nyquist's linemates during Tuesday's practice. Nyquist has excelled in the minors and if he gets a chance to play with Datsyuk and Franzen, then it he should have some fantasy value. Keep a close eye on this situation.

The Detroit Red Wings have called up Gustav Nyquist from the minors.

Nyquist made his season debut on Jan. 22 and logged 11:42 minutes in that contest. He's not expected to have any fantasy value this season, although given the rate that the Red Wings have been losing forwards at, it certainly wouldn't shock us if Nyquist sticks around for more than just a few days.

Feb 15 - 1:15 PM

The Detroit Red Wings recalled Gustav Nyquist to take Mikael Samuelsson's (groin) place Tuesday night.

Nyquist had seven points in 18 games last season for the Wings, but didn't make Detroit out of camp this season. Coach Mike Babcock said he expects Nyquist to skate on a line with Valtteri Filppula and Johan Franzen, as well as get some time on the power play. If he sticks, Nyquist could be worth a look, but we would leave him on the waiver wire until then.

The Detroit Red Wings opening night roster isn't likely to include Gustav Nyquist.

Nyquist was productive for the Wings last season with seven points in 18 contests, but with everyone at full health his services aren't currently required. He should be one of the first players summoned from Grand Rapids this year.
