Gustav Nyquist has taken an interest in horse racing lately as the Kentucky Derby winner was named Nyquist, after the Red Wings forward.

Nyquist, the horse, then placed third in the Preakness Stakes. "It’s cool. It’s different," Nyquist said. "I watched the race and like, calling a horse instead of my name on the ice, that was definitely different, for sure. It was an honor and a lot of fun to follow for sure." Nyquist, the player, was planning to go to Belmont Park to see the horse race, but now it appears Nyquist, the horse, won't be racing there, so the Red Wings forward hopes to see him another time. He racked up 54 points and 27 goals in 2014-15 and was expected to take on a larger role with Detroit, but his production slipped to 43 points and 17 goals this past season. "I have to do better," Nyquist said. "I didn't score as much as I wanted to. That's on me, and I just have to find a way to be better." His name could surface in trade rumors over the summer, but if he stays then he will have to step up his play next year.
