Gustav Nyquist has taken an interest in horse racing lately as the Kentucky Derby winner was named Nyquist, after the Red Wings forward.
Nyquist, the horse, then placed third in the Preakness Stakes. "It’s cool. It’s different," Nyquist said. "I watched the race and like, calling a horse instead of my name on the ice, that was definitely different, for sure. It was an honor and a lot of fun to follow for sure." Nyquist, the player, was planning to go to Belmont Park to see the horse race, but now it appears Nyquist, the horse, won't be racing there, so the Red Wings forward hopes to see him another time. Meanwhile, Nyquist had a great showing in the World Championship to put a more positive ending on what had been a bit of a disappointing season.
