Kings defenseman Jacob Muzzin appears likely to retain his role on the team's second power play unit, which seems to be the reason he has stayed in the lineup.
Coach Darryl Sutter acknowledged Saturday that Muzzin is a crucial part of the second unit, saying "Well, we kept him in more just because our power play’s been so good, and we’ve used Richie on the point on the one unit, so we need Muzzin there for the other one, for sure." Muzzin picked up 11 points in 17 games during the month of March and has been a pleasant surprise to anyone who gambled on him in deep fantasy leagues. Apr 21 - 9:49 AM

Jacob Muzzin, who has been on a scoring binge of late, registered 19 penalty minutes in Thursday's night's loss to San Jose.

He came to the defense of forward Colin Fraser, who was hit from behind by the Sharks' Andrew Desjardins. Muzzin was assessed two minors, a major and a misconduct for intervening. Muzzin, who admitted that he is not a fighter said the following, "I didn't like seeing my teammate get hit like that. So I thought I'd do something about it. So I stepped in and tried my best. Look, after a teammate is vulnerable like that, you don't want them running around thinking they can do that all the time." You gotta like the way this kid is playing. If Muzzin is still available in your pool, grab him.

Jacob Muzzin has been great of late for the Los Angeles Kings.

The young defenseman has three goals and seven points in his last six games and is plus-eight as well. Overall, he has five goals and 10 points in 21 games with a plus-11 rating. He is worth picking up in all but the shallowest of leagues at this time.

Jake Muzzin had his best offensive game of his young NHL career on Tuesday, tallying two goals and one assist in the Kings' 6-4 comeback victory over St. Louis.

The 24-year-old has received an increase in ice-time over the past seven games or so and has produced. He has three goals and five points in his last five games, while playing alongside Drew Doughty. Keep an eye on Muzzin as he may provide some offense from the backend if he continues receiving solid ice-time. Justin Williams also had three assists in the win.

Jacob Muzzin scored his first NHL goal in a 4-2 win over Phoenix Saturday.

Muzzin's first NHL marker came in the third period of the game and restored the Kings two-goal cushion after the Coyotes had narrowed the game to 3-2 shortly before. Muzzin shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

I had a good week of practice going into it, so I'm feeling pretty confident. Unfortunately Greener got hurt, so it gave me an opportunity to play. It's good experience. I'm excited, I thought I did pretty good, so I'm looking forward to tonight's game."

Muzzin had 31 points and 40 penalty minutes in 71 AHL contests last season. He might make the Kings' roster at some point during the 2012-13 campaign as an injury replacement, but he shouldn't be counted on to win an opening game roster spot.

Jacob Muzzin will start the 2011-12 season on the injured reserve list.

Muzzin had a point in 11 NHL games last season and 18 points in 45 AHL contests. He's got a fair amount of offensive upside, but he isn't expected to have much fantasy value this season.

The Los Angeles Kings have assigned defenseman Jake Muzzin to the AHL.

Jacob Muzzin has been impressive thus far this season.

The 21-year-old defenseman got a break when Matt Greene was unable to start the season and will give the Kings a tough decision to make once Greene is able to return. "This kid is getting rewarded," coach Terry Murray said. "He put a lot of time in in the summertime, doing the right stuff here and working out. He's physically ready to play. He's strong enough and he's got a good head on his shoulders for the game. He's getting a nice taste of the game right now." While we can't recommend him at this time, Muzzin is someone to keep your eye on as he did manage 67 points in 64 games with the Greyhounds in the OHL last season.
