Jake Muzzin has played a significant role in the Kings' 2014 playoff run after serving as a Black Ace during the 2012 championship.
With the Kings on the brink of winning the Cup again, Muzzin took some time to recall his 2012 experience. "You just try to help out as much as you can off the ice and a positive attitude, positive around the guys," Muzzin said. "But when it comes down to it, there is really not much you can do when you're sitting there watching on a TV screen except cheer. You have to stay with that. You have to be positive no matter what the situation is whether you're injured, healthy scratch, whatever it may be. If you're not playing, you're a part of the team still and you have to be professional about it." This time around, Muzzin has scored six goals and 12 points in 25 games. He's also second only to Drew Doughty in ice time with an average of 22:50 minutes per playoff contest. Jun 13 - 6:33 PM

May 26 - 11:44 PM

Quietly but surely, the Los Angeles Kings' Jake Muzzin is establishing himself as an offensive-minded defenseman.

He is one of the Kings’ least-publicized defensemen, but he has produced four goals in the post-season, tied for most by a defenseman in the NHL, after scoring a mere five goals in the regular season. He has eight points in the post-season. Muzzin, 25, is paired with the Kings' star defenseman, Drew Doughty. He has been bouncing up and down quite a bit from the minors but it looks as though he is in Los Angeles to stay for a while now and might be worth grabbing in your fantasy draft next season.

Mar 4 - 10:32 AM

Kings coach Darryl Sutter said he'd like to see defenseman Jake Muzzin step up so 36-year-old Willie Mitchell and 33-year-old Robyn Regehr can play fewer minutes and be more effective.

"With Robyn and Willie, they give you everything they got, but they're not kids. And with our schedule, when you're pushing those guys into the lows 20s, it affects their game and affects their performance and back to back nights….I'm not being critical of Muzz, but we need Muzz to be a good player for us. It's really clear." Muzzin, 24, scored the Kings' first goal in a 4-1 victory Thursday over St. Louis — his first point in 15 games — but was responsible for the Blues' equalizer after his shot on goal was blocked and turned into a breakaway for T.J. Oshie. Muzzin impeded Oshie, who was awarded a penalty shot and scored.

Jan 17 - 9:27 AM

Jake Muzzin is seeing plenty of time on the first defensive unit alongside Drew Doughty.

Doughty played with Robyn Rehegr last season but of late has been paired up with Muzzin. While the duo play a similar type game as both are offensive defenseman, coach Darryl Sutter is happy with the pairing at this time. "Evaluate it every game," Sutter said. "Quite honest, when we went into Anaheim the other day, the last time Jake played in Anaheim he was (poor), so don't think I didn't talk to him about it. Because you're evaluated at the end of every game. Because at the end of the day ... we're not that far from Jake Muzzin being a healthy scratch. Not that far removed. He's a young guy and we're looking for consistency." Muzzin has a goal and 11 points in 24 games with 22 penalty minutes. He is a 3-4 defenseman in deep pools.
