Rob Niedermayer has signed a one-year deal to play for Lugano of the Swiss Elite League.
No financial terms were released nor do we know if there is an out clause in case Niedermayer gets a better deal to play in the NHL. He is a much better hockey player than fantasy one and as such poolies will hardly notice he's gone across the Atlantic. Sat, Jul 2, 2011 03:22:00 PM

Had the Sabres advanced to the second round, Rob Niedermayer might have been unavailable due to an injury sustained on Tuesday.

Niedermayer was hit from behind by Philadelphia's Danny Briere. The injury would have further complicated things for Buffalo, who were already without center Tim Connolly. However, the Sabres season is over anyways, so Niedermayer has plenty of time to recover. Niedermayer is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.

Rob Niedermayer is expected to center two of the Sabres' top offensive players in Drew Stafford and Tyler Ennis on Monday.

Stafford and Ennis have combined for no goals and just one assist in two playoff games, so maybe the line change will help spark them. Niedermayer usually doesn't bring much to the table offensively, but he might end up with a point or two if Buffalo decides to go with that line on Monday.

Rob Niedermayer provides the Sabres with plenty of playoff experience.

Niedermayer has skated in 109 career playoff games and has participated in the Stanley Cup Finals three times. He raised the Cup over his head in 2007 for the Anaheim Ducks. Buffalo will need strong performances from their role players, like Niedermayer, if they want to upset the Philadelphia Flyers in round one.

Rob Niedermayer scored the lone goal for Buffalo as they fell 3-1 to Pittsburgh.

Niedermayer had the lone goal for Buffalo in this crucial game. Tyler Myers got the assist. The Sabres were hoping for a better effort but were shut down after the early goal. Buffalo will surely be disappointed with this loss.

Rob Niedermayer scored his first goal in 71 games in Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory over Minnesota.

The last time he bulged the twine was as a member of the New Jersey Devils against Pittsburgh on March 17, 2010. He has one goal and 13 helpers in 54 games this campaign with the Sabres.

Rob Niedermayer will return to the Buffalo lineup on Sunday.

Niedermayer has no goals in 47 games, making him completely useless in fantasy circles. He is a valuable role player for Buffalo, making his return to the lineup newsworthy.

Rob Niedermayer did not dress against the Blues Friday night making him a healthy scratch for the first time this season.

Even though Niedermayer is employed as a checking center, a little offence was expected from him. He has not scored in 35 games this season and was overdue for a benching. Paul Byron took Niedermayer's place against the Blues. It may be a game or two before the veteran gets back in the lineup with any meaningful playing time.

Rob Niedermayer is still looking for his first goal of 2010-11 after skating in 35 games with the Sabres.

He played a season-low 7:36 of ice time against the Islanders on Saturday after he got himself into penalty trouble and has just eight helpers with a minus-3 rating this campaign. "It's tough. I'd definitely like to be contributing more offensively," Niedermayer said. "You just have to try to keep doing your job. You don't think about it too much. You want to get as many pucks at the net as you can and that's all you can do." He also played the past three games with his name spelled incorrectly on the back of his jersey. You can file that one under another thing that has gone wrong for the veteran forward this year.

Rob Niedermayer is projected to play alongside Tyler Ennis and Thomas Vanek on Monday.

With Derek Roy out for the remainder of the season and Tim Connolly not expected to play, Niedermayer will temporarily assume the role of the Sabres' top center. He should lose that role once Connolly is healthy, but with Roy out, Niedermayer might still end up serving as a top-six forward. Niedermayer has no goals and just seven points in 26 games this season, but the Sabres are very thin up the middle.

Rob Niedermayer returned to the Buffalo lineup on Wednesday December 15th from a knee injury.

He went scoreless with four shots on goal and a minus-1 rating over 11:38 of ice time in his first appearance since Nov. 20 due to arthroscopic knee surgery. The defensive-minded forward has no fantasy value, but the Sabres should benefit from his return.

Rob Niedermayer could return from a knee injury on Wednesday.

Niedermayer hasn't played since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on November 22nd. He skated on a line with Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek during Tuesday's practice. Stay tuned.

Rob Niedermayer will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday.

"He felt it in the preseason," coach Lindy Ruff said. "We've left him off some mornings. He's had some fluid that's bothered him, that's hampered him in his skating. He's been trying to play through it and it hasn't been getting better, so the decision finally was to try to relieve some of that."

Rob Niedermayer has not scored a goal in 32 straight games going back to last season with New Jersey.

The defensive-minded forward has two assists in 14 games with the Sabres this year, but they both came in the same contest. "I definitely want to contribute more," said Niedermayer. "But I think the chances are starting to come. We're playing better as a team, and that's sort of where you want to go. ... Frustration doesn't really help you out at all. It doesn't really do anything for you. All you have is the next game." He shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar.
