Ryan Stanton impressed in Wednesday's preseason contest.

"He played a good hard game. I remember him in Vancouver. That’s the type of game he plays. He plays inside the other team’s equipment. Not overly flashy but he gets the job done. He looked like he belonged out there and that’s the first tell-tale sign of a guy who’s comfortable. Good for him," Oilers coach Todd McLellan. Stanton is battle for a spot as the Oilers' seventh defenseman. He had two goals and 12 points in 48 AHL contests last season.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Ryan Stanton to a two-year deal.

Stanton, 27, appeared in 48 games last season with the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage and Cleveland Monsters, accumulating 12 points (2G, 10A) and 69 penalty minutes. Stanton has appeared in 332 career AHL games, registering 88 points (15G, 73A) and 470 penalty minutes. The value of the contract was not released.

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired Ryan Stanton from the Colorado Avalanche for Cody Goloubef.

Stanton played one NHL game with the Washington Capitals last season, but spent most of the year in the minors with AHL Hershey. This season, he has one goal, three assists and 29 penalty minutes with AHL San Antonio. He won't be joining the Blue Jackets right now, as they've assigned him to their minor league affiliate in Cleveland. This trade has no fantasy implications.

He will be joined by forwards Troy Bourke, Turner Elson,A.J. Greer, Samual Henley, Jim O'Brien and goalies Jeremy Smith and Spencer Martin. None of these players will have any fantasy value in 2016-17.

Ryan Stanton and Linden Vey will be scratched for Game Five against Calgary on Thursday night.

Stanton hasn't seen any playoff action through the first five games, and if Vancouver loses again, he won't see any playoff action at all as Vancouver will be eliminated. Vey meanwhile played just 9:59 while sending two shots on net during his one game of work, Tuesday's 3-1 Game Four loss.

Perhaps ironically, it's McMillan who has some NHL playoff experience as he scored a goal and an assists over six games with Anaheim in 2010-11. Although neither player would be advisable for your fantasy roster even in a spot-start.

It will be Stanton's 10th straight game in the stands. Though he's managed to post 11 points, 33 PIMs, 93 hits, and 106 blocks over 53 games this season. McMillan meanwhile has seen just seven games with the Canucks since coming over from Arizona in mid-February.
