Carter Hutton sounds like he wants to test unrestricted free agency.
"Carter (Hutton) sees signing with the Predators as a little bit of a dead end to his career," said GM David Poile. "It's not over yet, but that's probably the way Carter is leaning. Carter Hutton would like to stay with the Nashville Predators.

"The unknown starts now," said Hutton, who can become an unrestricted free agent in July. "It's something I've been through numerous times now. Obviously, this situation is a lot different than years past. I've kind of established myself and had a pretty strong year. Obviously, I play in a tough situation here. That's my job. ... I love Nashville. I want to be in Nashville, so hopefully we can figure something out here to make me stay." He went 7-5-4 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in 17 appearances in 2015-16. Nashville is also interested in keeping him around.

Predators GM David Poile intends to talk to potential unrestricted free agent Carter Hutton.

"We're going to see if we can work something out there," he said. Hutton posted a 7-5-4 record in 2015-16 to go with a 2.33 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage and two shutouts. If he leaves then the Predators will have to find a new understudy for Pekka Rinne.

Carter Hutton relieved Pekka Rinne in Thursday's 5-0 Game 7 loss to San Jose.

Hutton saw and stopped his only shot during his 16:06 of work, as it was already 5-0 when he entered the game. The 30-year-old veteran backup will be a UFA come July 1st, assuming he doesn't sign a new deal with Nashville first.

Carter Hutton played the final 50 seconds of Game 1 versus San Jose on Friday night.

After the Sharks made it 5-2 in the final minute of play, starter Pekka Rinne did not come out to finish the game. Rather Hutton was given the honors, though he did not face any shots. Rinne does not appear to be injured, so we wouldn't expect to see much more of Hutton.

Hutton turned away 21 of 24 shots, including just one of two on special teams. The Predators would go on to lose 3-2. Hutton's record finishes at 7-5-4 with a 2.33 GAA and .918 save percentage.

Pekka Rinne isn't even going to dress as the Preds have recalled Marek Mazanec from AHL Milwaukee to back Hutton up. Hutton is coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to San Jose last Saturday night and has a 2.32 GAA and .918 SP in limited action this season. Adjust your goaltedning rotation accordingly.

Carter Hutton blocked 38 shots in the Predators’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Sharks on Saturday night.

Hutton gave up both goals in the third period as the Preds saw their lead disappear. Hutton’s last start came March 18, when he gave up four goals to the Capitals in a loss. He has a 2.32 GAA and .918 SV%.

He was in the starter's crease for Saturday morning's skate. Hutton is coming off a 25-save, 4-1 loss to Washington on the 18th of March. For the season, Hutton sports a 7-3-3 record with a 2.36 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. Given that the Predators clinched a playoff spot, the Hutton start is understandable. Pekka Rinne no doubt could use a night off.

Hutton turned away 25 of 29 shots, including all five on the kill, but the Predators fell 4-1 in convincing fashion. He was even caught looking the wrong way on a pair of goals. The loss drops his record to 7-3-3 with a 2.36 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Through a dozen games this season Hutton has backstopped his way to a 7-2-3 record with a .921 save percentage and just 27 goals against. All things considered, this isn't such a bad matchup.

Carter Hutton made 31 saves but it wasn't enough in 3-2 OT defeat to Calgary on Wednesday.

Making his first start since Feb. 23, Hutton acquitted himself well in the spot start. He did give up two goals in ten seconds to Johnny Gaudreau in the first period though. He's 7-2-3 with a 2.54 GAA and .910 save percentage in 12 appearances.

Hutton comes in riding with a nice season so far through 10 games and starts. he's 6-2-2 with just 22 goals against and a .922 save percentage as well. He's particularly effective against Eastern teams, undefeated in four starts with just seven goals against.
