Senators rearguard Patrick Wiercioch will be a scratch Wednesday night when they visit Detroit.
The defender was the odd man out making a slot available for Dion Phaneuf. This is the first scratch since December 6, 2015 earning one point in the 27 games since then. Nick Paul will also join him as a scratch. Feb 10 - 6:50 PM

Patrick Wiercioch logged 29:14 of ice time in this past Sunday's game versus Tampa Bay.

He got plenty of extra minutes after Mark Borowiecki received a game misconduct and Cody Ceci left the game with an upper-body injury. Wiercioch feels like he's playing with confidence and skating with Erik Karlsson certainly provided him with a boost.

Patrick Wiercioch will be scratched from Saturday's match with the Islanders.

With three points, 16 PIMs, 17 hits, and 19 blocks over 16 games, Wiercioch is at least given consistent production. Unfortunately that isn't enough to inspire a spot on your roster.

Patrick Wiercioch will be listed as a healthy scratch Tuesday.

He is off injured reserve and ready to play after recovering from an upper-body injury, but he won't play against Philadelphia.

Patrick Wiercioch practiced with his Ottawa teammates on Friday and appears to be healthy again.

That doesn't mean he will suit up against the Coyotes on Saturday, though. The Sens will likely be cautious with him after he missed four games as a result of being clocked by the Blue Jackets' Nick Foligno. Even at full health, Wiercioch is just a sixth-seventh defenseman, so his return to action will only be marginally interesting to poolies.

Patrick Wiercioch (upper body) has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Wiercioch was out for Wednesday's optional skate though. It's also worth noting that this move is presumable retroactive to Nov. 19, which means he could still play on Saturday if he's healthy.

Patrick Wiercioch (upper body) will miss Saturday's game.

Wiercioch left Thursday's contest with what might be a concussion, but Ottawa is classifying it as an upper-body injury. He has three points in 18 games this season.

Patrick Wiercioch exited Thursday's game in the second period with a suspected concussion.

He was injured after an open-ice hit from Columbus captain Nick Foligno. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Ottawa GM Bryan Murray wants Patrick Wiercioch and Jared Cowen to step up.

"We expect more from Wiercioch and Cowen, without a doubt," Murray said. "If we're trying to fill one spot, either Patrick or Jared have to take a step and demand to get that role and take advantage of it." Murray hasn't liked Wiercioch's play without the puck. He has three assists in 17 games this season.

Patrick Wiercioch is a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against Vancouver.

Joining him in the press box is forward Shane Prince. Wiercioch is a scratch for the first time in 2015-16. Prince, 22, has three assists in 11 games.

The Senators seem to be intent on using four forwards on the power play this season.

They have been practising that way since the begining of training camp and coach Dave Cameron indicated that that's the way he wants to deploy his troops with the man advantage. That is not good news for Patrick Wiercioch and Cody Ceci, who could have picked up some first power-play minutes otherwise.

Patrick Wiercioch believes he should stay in Ottawa's top-four defense group this season.

"Given the opportunity hopefully I continue to show I belong there," he said. "Cec and I had a lot of chemistry down the stretch for a fairly young D pairing." Wiercioch spent most of his 5-on-5 playing time alongside Cody Ceci last season and he had some success on the power play too.

Patrick Wiercioch will represent Canada at the World Championship.

"I'm thrilled. Anytime you get a chance to represent your country, it's pretty special," he said. "I never had the privilege of donning that jersey yet, so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity." He notched two goals and two assists during Ottawa's first-round loss to Montreal. During the regular season, Wiercioch produced 13 points in 56 games.

Patrick Wiercioch registered a pair of assists in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Montreal in Ottawa's playoff opener.

Both of his helpers came during P.K. Subban's five-minute major for slashing. Wiercioch finished the contest with 5:16 of ice time on the power play. He had 13 points in 56 games during the regular season.

Patrick Wiercioch and Zack Smith were scratched from Sunday's tilt with the Florida Panthers.

Unfortunately, neither player boasts much fantasy value this season. Wiercioch comes in with 12 points, 26 PIMs, and 41 blocks through 49 games this season. Meanwhile Smith's season, derailed mostly by injury, has produced just 14 PIMs and 50 hits through 30 games.
