The Senators seem to be intent on using four forwards on the power play this season.
They have been practising that way since the begining of training camp and coach Dave Cameron indicated that that's the way he wants to deploy his troops with the man advantage. That is not good news for Patrick Wiercioch and Cody Ceci, who could have picked up some first power-play minutes otherwise. Sep 26 - 10:37 AM

Patrick Wiercioch believes he should stay in Ottawa's top-four defense group this season.

"Given the opportunity hopefully I continue to show I belong there," he said. "Cec and I had a lot of chemistry down the stretch for a fairly young D pairing." Wiercioch spent most of his 5-on-5 playing time alongside Cody Ceci last season and he had some success on the power play too.

Patrick Wiercioch and Jean-Garbiel Pageau will be scratched against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

Patrick Wiercioch will tag in for Cody Ceci against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

"Everything you do is in the best interest of the player and the team," Coach Cameron said. "And so you make some tough decisions but those are the two criteria we go by all the time, what's best for the player at this time and does it hurt the team and can the team survive it. Obviously it's an opportunity for someone else." Ottawa likely won't make the playoffs this season, so this is a prime opportunity to continue to show how much they've grown. Ceci for his part has three goals and 14 points in 51 games this season, compared to Wiercioch's four points in 28 games.
