Center Brandon Bollig has yet to score a regular-season goal, prompting this comment from Chicago teammate Andrew Shaw: "I heard (New Jersey goaltender) Marty Brodeur has more goals than him this year."

"But seriously," Shaw added,"if he keeps going to the net. . . eventually they’ll start going in. He’s been playing great hockey. So we’re just letting him know, keep doing what you’re doing and great things will come from it."

Mar 7 - 4:22 PM

Brandon Bollig has been assigned to the minors by Chicago.

His demotion probably means that defenseman Steve Montador, who hasn't played yet because of a concussion, will be added to the Blackhawks' active roster. Bollig has no points and 40 penalty minutes in 11 games this year.
Mar 6 - 4:37 PM

Brandon Bollig was a healthy scratch on Monday.

Feb 26 - 6:27 AM

Brandon Bollig was a healthy scratch on Thursday.

Bollig has no points and 12 penalty minutes in three games with Chicago this season. If he plays in most Blackhawks games, some fantasy owners might get some limited use out of him as a PIM option. Just don't expect him to do much offensively.

Many young NHL players are playing in the AHL during the NHL lockout and are beginning to consider themselves fortunate.

Take Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig, for instance. He's toiling for the Rockford IceHogs. "It has to be (the focus)," Bollig said. "You can’t take anything away from this league. It’s very talented, especially right now. And if you don’t have your mind on the game you’ll be behind the 8-ball. It’s unfortunate (about the lockout). But there’s no room to focus on what’s going on there. I’m lucky, along with a few other guys, to be playing right now instead of sitting around and doing nothing."

Brandon Bollig, who played in 18 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season, was denied the opportunity to earn an NHL spot in training camp due to the lockout.

"That’s the worst part, that you don’t even have that option to work your butt off and try to make that spot on the ‘Hawks," said Bollig. "It’s unfortunate the league’s going through what it is. But on the other hand it’s great to be here (in Rockford). It’s a class-act organization and the city loves the team. I have zero complaints. But it’s unfortunate to not have that option to try to make the NHL." Bollig will still compete for a spot with Chicago when the lockout ends and a strong performance in the minors would be a huge boost for him.

Brandon Bollig has inked a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bollig had no points and 58 penalty minutes in 18 regular season games. He netted a goal and 19 penalty minutes in four playoff contests with Chicago. As you might imagine, Bollig can provide you with plenty of PIM if he plays regularly, but his offensive upside is minimal.

Brandon Bollig scored his first NHL goal on Saturday.

It was also the first point of Bollig's NHL career. He played 18 regular season games with 58 minutes in the penalty box. Bollig's goal tied the score at two with a nice wrist shot. Bollig's value is still as an enforcer but the goal was a nice present to fantasy owners.

Brandon Bollig was in the Game 1 lineup as the Blackhawks wanted to provide Jonathan Toews with some toughness up front in case things got rough.

Bollig only played 6:40 minutes Thursday as the rugged forward's time was limited due to the closeness of the game. He will be a game-time decision on Saturday as the Blackhawks may need more scoring in their lineup.

Coach Joel Quenneville likes what he's seen of rugged forward Brandon Bollig during his current stint in the NHL.

"I like how he's playing, and I'm not talking about his fighting," Quenneville said. "Positionally, he's got an awareness. He brings us energy. He finishes hits, and technically he's doing the right things." The 6-foot-2, 223-pound winger has racked up 41 minutes in penalties and eight hits in his seven appearances with Chicago.
