Ben Scrivens was on the ice Saturday morning for Toronto's optional skate.
He obviously made it back from a family funeral and will dress as James Reimer's backup Saturday night. Drew MacIntrye won't get his chance to dress after all. May 4 - 11:36 AM

Date:

Ben Scrivens has temporarily left the Toronto Maple Leafs to attend his grandfather's funeral.

Scrivens will then rejoin the team in Boston on Saturday. It's unclear if he'll serve as the backup netminder for that night's contest. We'd like to extend our condolences to Scrivens.
May 3 - 12:23 PM

Ben Scrivens allowed five goals on 37 shots in a 5-1 defeat in Washington Tuesday night.

The only action he'll see for the remainder of the season is if the Leafs feel they need to give starter James Reimer the night off as Scrivens has entrenched himself as the team's backup.
Apr 16 - 10:13 PM

Ben Scrivens is expected to start in between the pipes Tuesday night.

It'll be Scrivens' first start in March 26, when he made 40 saves en route to a 3-2 win over the Panthers. Scrivens has no fantasy value as James Reimer's backup.
Apr 16 - 3:28 PM

Ben Scrivens blocked 40 shots in a 3-2 victory against Florida Tuesday night.

In his first start since March 16, the Toronto keeper looked great while helping the team pick up an important victory. He lifted his record to 7-8-0 on the year and his performance will probably get him another start.
Mar 26 - 9:41 PM

Ben Scrivens is expected to get the start in net Tuesday night.

The Maple Leafs have lost the last five times Scrivens has appeared in a game, although he replaced James Reimer in the third period of one of those games. Scrivens hasn't started since being pulled from a March 16 game in which he allowed four goals in two periods. Reimer is still considered the starter, but he hasn't been great since returning from injury. We'll see if Scrivens can halt the slide and gain some currency in the Leafs' goaltending battle.
Mar 26 - 2:05 PM

Ben Scrivens lasted two periods before getting yanked in Toronto's 5-4 shootout loss to the Jets on Saturday night.

Scrivens got the call for the second straight game and was very shaky, giving up four goals on 26 shots. James Reimer played the third period and made seven saves. It's very likely Reimer will be between the pipes Wednesday when Toronto hosts the Lightning.
Mar 16 - 10:36 PM

Ben Scrivens is projected to start for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

It will be Scrivens' second straight start. He has a 2.47 GAA and .919 save percentage in 16 games this season.
Mar 16 - 11:27 AM

Ben Scrivens allowed two goals on 27 shots Thursday as the Maple Leafs were beaten at home by a score of 3-1 to Pittsburgh.

Toronto was very close to taking home a 1-0 result, but Pittsburgh woke up in the second half of the final period and stole a victory. Although Scrivens has done an admirable job when given the opportunity this year, James Reimer is likely to see the bulk of the playing time for this team.
Mar 14 - 11:08 PM

Ben Scrivens is projected to get the nod for Toronto against Pittsburgh Thursday night.

He practiced in the home net at the Leafs' optional morning skate. James Reimer has looked a little shaky since returning from a knee injury, so Scrivens could be in line for more playing time if he can post a win against a tough Penguins squad.
Mar 14 - 12:32 PM

Ben Scrivens allowed three goals on 24 shots in the Maple Leafs 4-2 loss to Boston Thursday night.

In a battle of backup goaltenders Scrivens was outdueled by Boston's Anton Khudobin, but the assignment was an especially difficult one for the Toronto netminder. Despite the strong performances he has enjoyed, James Reimer remains the number one option in goal for the Leafs.
Mar 8 - 1:18 AM

Ben Scrivens blocked 35 shots in Toronto's 5-2 loss to Montreal on Wednesday night.

Scrivens was pretty much on his own all night, and he just wasn't able to get the job done. The 26-year-old has a 2.41 goals-against average and .923 save percentage on the season. This should open the door for James Reimer to get a look in the Maple Leafs next game on Thursday.
Feb 27 - 10:40 PM

Ben Scrivens turned away 23 of 25 Philadelphia shots in a 4-2 win over the Flyers Monday.

Scrivens has been fantastic since James Reimer (knee) went down earlier in the month. Once Reimer is healthy again, the two should go back to battling for the number one gig in the Toronto net, although Scrivens should have the upper hand in that contest. If he's still available in your free agent pool, pick him up immediately.
Feb 25 - 11:01 PM

Ben Scrivens performed well between the pipes for the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night but wound up on the losing side in Ottawa when the Senators' Colin Greening scored by batting the puck out of midair with 22 seconds left in regulation to give the home team a 3-2 victory.

Scrivens turned aside 32 of the 35 shots he faced from Ottawa.
Feb 23 - 10:23 PM

The red hot Ben Scrivens will start in goal against Ottawa Saturday night.
