Matt Bartkowski has surfaced in trade rumors with the Bruins in some salary cap trouble.
Boston will save some cap space when Marc Savard is moved to LTIR, but they still have roughly $4.75 million in overage penalties to account for and need to clear up some space to re-sign Reilly Smith and Torey Krug. Bartkowski and Johnny Boychuk have emerged as possible trade candidates because they would bring back the most value. Aug 22 - 10:00 AM

Jul 9 - 4:03 PM

He skated in a career high 64 games with Boston last campaign. Bartkowski picked up 18 assists and 155 hits over that span, while averaging 19:32 of ice time per contest.
Jul 5 - 2:04 PM

Matt Bartkowski will be a restricted free agent next month.

He played well in 64 games during the regular season, but the playoffs proved that he still has some developing to do. Bartkowski will probably receive a raise from the $650,000 he earned in 2013-14, but he could also be used as trade bait for the Bruins as they look to shake up their roster a bit.
Jun 12 - 5:30 PM

Matt Bartkowski has been whistled for five minor penalties in just three games in Boston's second-round series versus Montreal.

He was called for two holding penalties in Saturday's 4-2 win, but he only agreed with one of them. "The one on [P.K.] Subban's a penalty, I know that. I'd rather not talk about the other one," Bartkowski said. He also picked up an assist in the contest and posted a plus-2 rating. The helper was his first point of these playoffs.
May 12 - 6:30 AM

Matt Bartkowski was back in Boston's lineup Thursday night.

He was a healthy scratch in Games 2 and 3 in Round 2 against Montreal. Andrej Meszaros took his place in the press box.
May 9 - 7:16 AM

Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch Saturday night for Game 2 against the Canadiens.

He took two rather costly penalties in Game 1 and was replaced by Andrej Meszaros, who registered an assist on the Bruins' first goal in a 5-3 win. Meszaros also took a bad penalty which led to a Montreal goal Saturday night so it is unlcear which of the two will get to play Monday in Game 3.
May 4 - 1:16 PM

Matt Bartkowski got back in Boston's lineup on Tuesday from the flu.

He missed the first two games of Boston's opening round series against Detroit with the illness. "I felt 100 percent the whole time. It was just getting re-acclimated on the first one or two shifts to the speed of the game. It's a pretty fast game," Bartkowski said. "I like playoff hockey. I think it's easier. Everyone's hard on every puck, everyone's hard on every play, so there's nothing really to worry about. You just have to be hard on everything. I like playoff hockey. It's a lot of fun." He was credited with two hits and one shot in 18:34 of ice time.
Apr 23 - 8:00 AM

Matt Bartkowski (flu) will take part in Boston's pregame warmup on Tuesday.

It still remains to be seen if Bartkowski will be able to play in the contest. He missed Boston's first two playoff games.
Apr 22 - 1:01 PM

Matt Bartkowski (flu) skated on Monday in an optional practice.

He has missed the first two games of Boston's opening round series with Detroit due to the flu and he's still considered day-to-day. "We've talked about Matt Bartkowski being out for that long and being sick," coach Claude Julien said. "We have to allow him to skate a little bit and get himself back into the groove of things before you throw him into a game." As a result, he may not be ready to play in Game 3 on Tuesday night.
Apr 22 - 7:29 AM

The Boston Bruins ruled Matt Bartkowski out of the lineup for Game 2 against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

He's not particularly fantasy-relevant right now so JFYI.
Apr 20 - 1:56 PM

Matt Bartkowski is listed as questionable for Friday's opening game of the playoffs against the Red Wings.

He is battling the flu and did not practice this week. If Bartkowski can't go, Andrej Meszaros will dress in his place.
Apr 18 - 9:01 AM

Matt Bartkowski has really picked up his game since fellow Bruin blueliner Dennis Seidenberg tore up his knee last month.

The Bruins' coaching staff has doled out some of Seidenberg's playing time to Bartkowski and the 25-year-old rearguard has responded with solid play. "I think the more minutes [Bartkowski] has played, the better we've seen him play," said Boston bench boss Claude Julien. "It's kind of a normal thing for players: the more you play, the more you're involved and the better you play on most occasions. I think he's played his better hockey as of late, which is a good sign for us." Bartkowski has received over 20 minutes of ice time in six of his last nine games and has been fairly consistent in administering hits. Now if he could only increase his shot blocking (only 30 this season) and his offence (no goals and eight points) we might be willing to recommend him.
Jan 25 - 9:00 AM

Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch on Monday.

Bartkowski has played fairly regularly lately, although he doesn't do too much offensively. He has just six points in 22 games this season. Still, if he does manage to establish himself as an every game defenseman at the NHL level, he might have some value in leagues that use hits as a category. As it is he has 46 hits in 2013-14.
