Matt Bartkowski and Joe Morrow are healthy scratches in Thursday's game against Chicago.

With Zdeno Chara coming back, an additional defenseman had to be removed from the lineup. Bartkowski has averaged 18:18 in 14 games this season, while Morrow has averaged 16:40 in 15 games. Neither player is relevant in standard fantasy leagues.

Matt Bartkowski picked up two assists in Boston's 4-3 shootout win over Columbus on Friday night.

Bartkowski's first helper came on Dennis Seidenberg's goal that was shot from near center ice to make it 3-1 early in the third. His second helper came off a stellar redirection from Mark Fraser to make it 3-2 eight minuts later. Bartkowski now has a blistering three assists, and points, on the season.
Nov 21 - 11:07 PM

Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Bartkowski was happy with the way he played on Saturday after a lengthy time in the press box as a healthy scratch.

"I think I did alright, for how much time I sat out. I was moving [my feet]," Bartkowski told CSNNE.com. "I didn’t really give them too much [offensively], a few chances but other than that it went pretty well. I was disappointed [with the healthy scratches], but we’ve had this discussion before, I wasn’t playing particularly well. So that’s what happens." He had four shots on goal and a plus-1 rating in 17:37 of ice time after being a healthy scratch for Boston's previous seven games.

Nov 16 - 10:46 AM

Matt Bartkowski has been a healthy scratch for six straight games.

He has no points, eight hits and a minus-4 rating in five appearances this season.
Nov 13 - 9:54 AM

If Torey Krug isn't able to play in Monday's game against New Jersey then Matt Bartkowski could be back in the lineup.

He has been a healthy scratch for the past four games. "He's got to wait for his opportunity and when the opportunity comes, he has to show us that," said coach Claude Julien, who wants Bartkowski to be tougher to play against. "He's still a young player; he only has like one full year under his belt. Sometimes players go through that. Remember Johnny Boychuk's first year here? He sat for quite a while. That didn't stop him from becoming a real good player."
Nov 10 - 9:48 AM

Matt Bartkowski was a healthy scratch Thursday night.

"We all know that he's been a player who was very serviceable last year. When (Dennis) Seidenberg went down, he played in our top four and I thought he did a good job," said coach Claude Julien. "Right now, he's maybe half that player. I think a lot of it has to do with confidence. He makes one mistake and he gets down on himself." The Bruins called up Joe Morrow and David Warsofsky on Wednesday and both of them suited up in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo.
Oct 31 - 9:26 AM

Matt Bartkowski will return to the lineup on Tuesday night.

Kevan Miller is sidelined indefinitely because of a dislocated right shoulder, so Bartkowski will draw back in. He has played in just one of Boston's first seven games of the season.
Oct 21 - 8:56 AM

Matt Bartkowski played in his first game of the 2014-15 campaign on Monday afternoon.

He was a healthy scratch in Boston's previous three outings, but he dressed in the Bruins' 2-1 loss to Colorado. Bartkowski posted a minus-2 rating and one shot in 19:50 of ice time. He replaced Kevan Miller in the lineup and was paired with Dennis Seidenberg. It wouldn't be surprising if he was back in the press box for Wednesday's match in Detroit.
Oct 14 - 7:34 AM

Matt Bartkowski, who was a healthy scratch against Detroit on Thursday, may have trouble breaking into the Boston lineup.

Even with the trade of Johnny Boychuk to Long Island, the Bruins have six strong defencemen besides Bartkowski who Boston coach Claude Julien can rely on. Expect Bartkowski to have little to no fantasy impact this season due to the B's logjam on the blueline.
Oct 11 - 8:31 AM

Matt Bartkowski will stick with Boston and there's a chance that he'll play on the second pairing now that Johnny Boychuk has been traded to the Islanders.

He skated alongside Dennis Seidenberg, who switched to the right side, in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to Detroit. Torey Krug joined Adam McQuaid as the third pairing, while Zdeno Chara played with Dougie Hamilton. However, there's also a chance that Bartkowski could be moved to the seventh defense spot and Kevan Miller may end up with Seidenberg. The Bruins plan to do some experimenting to find the right mix.
Oct 6 - 9:56 AM

Matt Bartkowski scored a shorthanded goal in Boston's 5-3 preseason loss to the Islanders on Tuesday.

He's competing for Boston's sixth or seventh defense spot, but there's also a chance that he'll be traded to help the Bruins get under the salary cap. "It's just as uncertain (as any other season)," said Bartkowski, who carries a cap hit of $1.25 million. "Who really knows? But that's something that we can only control with our play, so I don't really intend to worry about it."
Oct 1 - 10:19 AM

Matt Bartkowski has surfaced in trade rumors with the Bruins in some salary cap trouble.

Boston will save some cap space when Marc Savard is moved to LTIR, but they still have roughly $4.75 million in overage penalties to account for and need to clear up some space to re-sign Reilly Smith and Torey Krug. Bartkowski and Johnny Boychuk have emerged as possible trade candidates because they would bring back the most value.
Aug 22 - 10:00 AM

Matt Bartkowski has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Boston Bruins.

Bartkowski had an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 30. The 26-year-old defenseman registered 18 assists in 64 games last season.
Jul 14 - 12:07 PM

Matt Bartkowski's arbitration date has been set.

Bartkowski will have a hearing on July 30 unless he can agree to terms with the Bruins before then. He had 18 assists and 30 penalty minutes in 64 games last season.
