Matt Bartkowski scored his first NHL goal in the Bruins' Game 7 win.
It was the game's first goal, coming at 5:39. Bartkowski, in only his 23rd game, found the net and also had three shots on goal. Bruins coach Claude Julien was happy how his young defensemen, Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton, played. "You have to find a way to give credit to those two young guys on the back end —Hamilton and obviously Bartkowski," Julien said. "Bartkowski was moving the puck and carrying it so well tonight, and he scored a big goal for us. I saw Dougie Hamilton get more and more comfortable as the game went on as far as carrying the puck and making plays. You talk about people coming in, well we were minus three real good veterans in our back end, so that’s half your core, and those guys come in and do a heck of a job. May 14 - 9:09 AM

Mark Barkowski was naturally relieved that he was not dealt in the nixed Jarome Iginla deal.

He was told to start packing his bags for Calgary after being scratched from Wednesday night's AHL game hours after signing a new contract with the Bruins. The deal was obvioulsy a condition of the trade with the Flames. "I wouldn’t have signed that deal here if I didn’t want to be here and didn’t like it here," said Bartkowski. "So, I was pretty happy when I heard it didn’t go through." Of course, he could still be dealt in another trade before Wednesday's deadline. That said, the Bruins still think pretty highly of Bartkowski.
