Andrew Desjardins (lower body) skated at Sunday's optional morning practice.

It was his first session with the team since he injured his foot on a blocked shot in Chicago's final exhibition game. The Blackhawks don't have a timetable in place for his return, but that could change after he is re-evaluated in the next few days.

Andrew Desjardins (LBI) has no timetable for return, according to Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville.

That's tough news for the Blackhawks has Desjardins had become one of their steadier forces in their sorely lacking bottom-six. The veteran is no steadier point-getter, but he can help anyone in a pinch looking for hits and PIMs.

Andrew Desjardins is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks with a lower-body injury.

In a best case scenario, Desjardins should be expected to miss Chicago's first 11 games. He had eight goals and 13 points in 77 contests in 2015-16. Chicago had already announced that he was on the injured reserve list, but initially they didn't provide a timetable or give any details about relatively where he got hurt.

Andrew Desjardins (undisclosed) has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Desjardins sustained the injury on Saturday when he blocked a shot. We don't know exactly how bad his condition is, but the fact that he'll start the 2016-17 campaign on the injured reserve obviously isn't encouraging.

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville likes the way Andrew Desjardins has been playing in training camp.

Desjardins hasn't guaranteed himself a spot on the roster, but his coach appreciates the way he plays. "The decision is probably not clear for us right now exactly who's going to be here and who's not," Quenneville said. "But the one thing is you appreciate the way he competes. He's coming off a really good game (on Tuesday) and he gives us some versatility in all three forward positions. He can kill penalties. We like the way he competes and he's got some physicality to his game."
