Coach Bruce Boudreau wants to make sure that Vatanen is completely healthy, so he's holding him out for at least another game. The Ducks have a crowded defense corps now following he acquisitions of Simon Despres and James Wisniewski, so where exactly Vatanen will fit in once he returns is unclear.

Sami Vatanen (leg) is expected to practice with the Anaheim Ducks on their upcoming three game road trip.

Vatanen was hurt on February 15 and the prognosis was four-six weeks so he is right on schedule. The Ducks power play has really suffered since he was injured as Anaheim has scored only once in 13 attempts in the last 19 days. Vatanen has seven goals on the pp to lead the Ducks and his 10 assists are tied for the team lead with Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks need their quarterback on the power play back.

Vatanen was injured on February 15 and it was thought he would be out four-six weeks so he should return by the beginning of April at the latest which would still give him 10 days in the regular season to get ready for the playoffs. "I will be ready before the playoffs," Vatanen said. "I can play some games and be ready for the most exciting time of the season." Vatanen was the Ducks top offensive defenseman when injured as he had 12 goals and 34 points in 57 games.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun says that the "top priority" for the Ducks is getting a defenseman by the deadline.

Sami Vatanen is out four to six weeks, and he ranked third on the team with 21:40 minutes per game. LeBrun also says that the Ducks could look at a top-nine piece with Matt Beleskey out two-to-four weeks. They are 1-3-1 over their past five games.

In other words, Vatanen will return with enough time to shake off the rust before the start of the playoffs, but this is a huge blow to his fantasy value for the rest of the campaign. He has 12 goals and 34 points in 57 contests in 2014-15. Anaheim called up defenseman Josh Manson, who is likely to play regularly during Vatanen's absence.
