Sami Vatanen scored a goal in a 2-1 loss to the Devils on Tuesday.
Vatanen now has points in back-to-back games and is currently averaging a career high in ice-time playing on the first defensive pairing with Cam Fowler. If he continues to see this ice-time, it would not be a surprise to see him eclipse his career high of 38 points established last season. His goal came on the powerplay and was assisted by Cam Fowler and Corey Perry. Oct 18 - 10:25 PM

Sami Vatanen has shown up at the Ducks training camp.

Vatanen played in the World Cup so he will get a few days off before returning to the ice as he did not make an appearance Saturday at the Ducks training camp venue. The Finnish defenseman has to be disappointed with the fact that Finland failed to win a game at the tourney but will try to surpass 40 points for the first time in his career this season as he has had 37 and 38 points in each of the last two seasons despite missing 26 games over that span through injury and rest. He should be drafted in the middle rounds of deeper pools.

Sami Vatanen's recently signed contract comes with a partial no-trade clause for the last two years of the agreement.

Vatanen inked a four-year, $19.5 million extension that prevented him from becoming a restricted free agent. There were some trade rumors regarding him during the 2016-17 campaign, but after inking this deal we don't expect the Ducks to move him anytime soon.

Sami Vatanen has agreed to a four-year, $19.5 million contract extension.

Vatanen would have become a restricted free agent this summer after completing his two-year, $2,525,000 deal. He earned that big pay raise after recording 37 points in 2014-15 and 38 points last season. He's also averaged over 21 minutes per game in each of the last two seasons. He was brought up in trade rumors during the 2015-16 campaign, but it seems safe to say that he'll be sticking with the Ducks for now.
Jun 18 - 12:51 PM

Sami Vatanen had a goal and an assist as the Ducks defeated the Predators 5-2 in Game 5 on Saturday night.

And just like that, after going down 2-0 in the first-round series, the Ducks are a game away from advancing. Vatanen had an active game, his goal giving the Ducks a 3-1 lead in the third period, but also recording five shots on goal, two penalty minutes and a plus-three rating. David Perron (goal, assist), Ryan Kesler, Ryan Garbutt and Cam Fowler got the other goals. Ryan Getzlaf and Jakob Silfverberg chipped in with two assists apiece.
Apr 23 - 9:05 PM

Sami Vatanen is over his illness.

Vatanen will be available for Game 1 of the Ducks' first round series. He had nine goals and 38 points in 71 games during the regular season.
Apr 12 - 1:14 PM

Sami Vatanen (illness) will miss Saturday's contest in Colorado.

Vatanen has nine goals and 29 assists in 71 games this season. It's not clear if he'll miss Sunday's game in Washington too, but given that he's not even traveling with the Ducks to Colorado, we wouldn't be surprised if they opt to just let him continue to rest in Anaheim until the playoffs start.
Apr 8 - 6:43 PM

Sami Vatanen was made a late scratch due to illness Thursday night against the Kings.

It's been another excellent season for the 24-year-old defender as Vatanen has set a new high in points with 38. Tack on his nine goals, 85 blocks, and 105 hits through 71 games this season and you have yourself a reliable contributor.
Apr 7 - 11:37 PM

Sami Vatanen (head) will play Monday night.

He has missed the last eight games with a head injury. The Ducks defender has nine goals and 37 points in 66 contests this season.
Mar 28 - 2:18 PM

Sami Vatanen (head) is expected to be a game-time decision on Monday.

The Ducks have been without Vatanen's services for eight straight contests. He has nine goals and 37 points in 66 contests in 2015-16.
Mar 28 - 8:44 AM

Coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday that Sami Vatanen will not play Saturday in Ottawa.

Vatanen has missed a couple of weeks of action with a chin injury and the Ducks miss his offensive prowess as he has nine goals and 37 points in 66 games this season. The defenseman quarterbacks the Ducks power play and he deserves to be taken quite high in playoff pools, especially considering the Ducks are favored to go deep into the post-season. He should return at some point next week so get ready to activate him.
Mar 26 - 4:39 AM

Coach Bruce Boudreau noted that Sami Vatanen (chin) will not travel with the Ducks during their five game road trip on Friday.

Which means that the next time Vatanen could be available is March 30th when Anaheim hosts Calgary. Through 66 games this season he has nine goals and 37 points, sitting just one shy of setting a new career high.
Mar 19 - 1:18 AM

Sami Vatanen (chin) won't play Friday against Boston.

This will mark four straight games out of the lineup for Vatanen. Through 66 games this season he has nine goals and 37 points, sitting just one shy of setting a new career high.
Mar 18 - 7:36 PM

Sami Vatanen's upper-body issue is a chin injury.

Vatanen was on the ice for about 30 minutes on Thursday. He's missed three straight games due to the ailment.
Mar 18 - 10:24 AM

Sami Vatanen won't play in Monday's game against the New Jersey Devils.

Vatanen will miss his second straight game because of an upper-body injury. The 24-year-old is considered day-to-day at this point. He has nine goals and 37 points in 2015-16.
