Date:

Eric Gelinas and Jacob Josefson will be scratched when New Jersey plays in Anaheim on Friday night.

It appears that Gelinas is still recovering from the flu, as Josefson is made a healthy scratch. Gelinas is having a disappointing season with just 11 points in 32 games, but it's still better than Josefson's three points in 26 games this season.

Eric Gelinas (flu) won't play Wednesday, but he has been activated from injured reserve.

He has missed the past five games with the flu. In 32 games this year, Gelinas has four goals and 11 points.
Jan 14 - 6:14 PM

Eric Gelinas (flu) has been moved to the injured reserve list.

Gelinas has already missed four contests and can be activated whenever he's healthy. The Devils likely decided to make this change so they could take Jacob Josefson off of the injured reserve list.
Jan 9 - 5:34 PM

Eric Gelinas (flu) is expected to resume workouts soon.

He has missed the last three games with the flu, but he's feeling better. There's a chance he could be moved to injured reserve to free up a roster space for Jacob Josefson, but if that happens then he would still be eligible to return on Friday.
Jan 7 - 5:23 PM

Eric Gelinas' illness has been described by GM Lou Lamoriello as a "strong case of the flu."

Gelinas has already missed two games due to the disease and he remains day-to-day. He has four goals and 11 points in 32 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 5 - 1:04 PM

Eric Gelinas missed his second consecutive game with the flu on Saturday.

At least we are assuming it's the flu. Right now the Devils are saying Gelinas does not have the mumps. "The first indication is it's not from what the doctor tells me the signs he has," GM Lou Lamoriello said "But, as I've said before, I don't know. But he is sick." Stay tuned.
Jan 4 - 7:28 AM

Eric Gelinas will probably miss Friday's game due to an illness.

The Devils have been battling the mumps, but so far Gelinas' symptoms don't indicate that he has that disease. If he can't play, then Seth Helgeson will probably get back into the lineup.
Jan 2 - 11:29 AM

To confirm an earlier report, Eric Gelinas will indeed suit up in place of Seth Helgeson on Saturday night.

Gelinas has three goals and nine points in 23 games this season from the blue line.

Look for Eric Gelinas to return to the New Jersey lineup on Saturday after missing the last two games as a healthy scratch.

While the offensive part of Gelinas' game is NHL caliber, his play in the defensive zone keeps him out of the lineup from time-to-time. The Devils had trouble getting shots at or on the net Thursday and that is Gelinas' specialty so look to see him out there against the Dallas Stars. "What young players, especially young defensemen, have to understand is if you create three chances and give up three, we’re not further ahead," coach Peter DeBoer said. "We always talk about having a positive impact on the game. [If] you’re creating one chance and giving up none, that’s a positive impact. If you’re creating five and giving up five, we’re no further ahead and that’s the battle for young defensemen and offensive players." Gelinas has three goals and nine points in 23 games this season.

Eric Gelinas warmed the bench for the second half of Monday's 2-1 win over Carolina.

Gelinas was limited to just 7:27 minutes of ice time as a result. Devils coach Pete DeBoer confirmed that Gelinas wasn't injured, but didn't want to specify why he was benched. "I don't know what was going on," Gelinas said. "I was feeling good and I was skating good. I wasn't reacting the right way. I got caught with a couple of passes that can't happen in a tight game, especially an important game like this. And the coaches went with the guys that were hot and were playing well tonight. We want to win and I respect that and I understand that. It's up to me to make the right decisions." Gelinas has three goals and nine points in 23 games in 2014-15.

Eric Gelinas scored a goal and added an assist for the Devils in their 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday night, with a depleted lineup no less.

The Devils never trailed on Thursday night and took advantage of a sleepy Leafs squad to notch a win without multiple stars including Jaromir Jagr, Patrik Elias and Adam Larsson. Gelinas now has three goals and nine points in 21 games.

Eric Gelinas picked up two more assists to help guide the Devils towards a 2-0 victory in Edmonton on Friday night.

Two lead passes in transition were all that was needed to get behind the Oilers' defense where Adam Henrique and Tuomo Ruutu did the rest. Gelinas played 18:49 including over two minutes on the power play with four shots, two hits and blocks and a penalty. Or in some circles, a complete game.
