Eric Gelinas played on the fourth line Saturday.

The defenseman has seen plenty of duty up front as the Devils like his play there on occasion. The move on Saturday was deemed necessary as the Devils had a multitude of injuries at forward including Adam Henrique, Patrik Elias and Ryane Clowe. Gelinas had a limited role on Saturday as he saw only 4:44 minutes of ice time. He has seven goals and 29 points this season.
Apr 6 - 7:42 AM

Although the Devils have been experimenting with using Eric Gelinas as a forward recently, they still plan to use him as a defenseman in the long term.

"We played him four shifts up front (in the last game against the Maple Leafs) in order to keep him in the lineup and keep him in the game. I'm not making him a forward. It's not a permanent move," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "I don't know where it's going to go. That's as far as I want to talk about it." Gelinas has the potential to be a great offensive defenseman and he's already proved he can produce at the NHL level with seven goals and 27 points in 53 games in 2013-14.

Eric Gelinas practiced as a forward on Tuesday.

"They call the position rover. I don't know what's going on. I switched jerseys twice today, so I have to be ready for anything, I guess," Gelinas said. He spent the majority of Sunday's game against Toronto as a forward and it looks like Devils coach Pete DeBoer is willing to push this experiment further. Gelinas has seven goals and 27 points in 53 games this season.
Mar 25 - 1:11 PM

Eric Gelinas returned to the New Jersey lineup on Sunday but played only 8:06 minutes as their seventh defenseman.

Gelinas has found himself as the odd-man out of late has he had missed four of the previous six games as a healthy scratch. He has a lot of offensive upside but it's hard to put him in your fantasy lineup if coach Peter DeBoer is having the same misgivings in putting him in the Devils starting 20. He has seven goals and 27 points in 52 games this season.
Mar 24 - 6:02 AM

Eric Gelinas played only one shift in the third period but coach Peter BeBoer said after the game that he was not hurt and it was a coaching move.

Gelinas has been terrific offensively but playing defense in the NHL requires a lot of seasoning and the Devils are bringing Gelinas along slowly. He has seven goals and 26 points in 50 games including 16 points on the power play.
Mar 9 - 8:43 AM

Eric Gelinas picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Islanders.

Gelinas has seven goals and 25 points in 46 games and the rookie defensemen has three points in the two games since his recall after the break. He is a fine offensive defenseman and is worth looking at in deeper pools.
Mar 2 - 8:36 AM

Eric Gelinas has been summoned from the minors.

He was sent down on Jan. 31 and the Devils' power play didn't fair well without him. The team went 0-for-12 in four games before the Olympic break after Gelinas' demotion. He leads the team with 13 power-play points this season.
Feb 24 - 3:56 PM

The New Jersey Devils are a different team with Eric Gelinas on the point during the power play.

Gelinas was sent to the minors on January 31. The Devils power play has scored only five goals in 49 chances when Gelinas has not been in the lineup, compared to 28 goals in 125 opportunities when Gelinas has been active. He is a very good offensive player who just needs experience so do not forget about him next season. Gelinas has six goals and 22 points this season.
Feb 9 - 5:16 AM

Eric Gelinas needs to work on his defense to return to and stay in the NHL, according to Devils coach Pete DeBoer.

"I think he’s a very promising young defenseman that needs to keep developing his game," DeBoer said. "You can’t just be a big shot. One, I think he’s capable of being much more than that. And two, if you’re going to have a long career you have to be multi-dimensional and I think the other dimensions of his game are the areas he needs to work at. It’s not a secret, but it’s tough to get 20 or 25 minutes of ice at this level for a young defenseman. We’re looking at this guy long-term more than shorter term. DeBoer acknowledged that the Devils need offense and Gelinas can provide it, but his minus-5 rating worked against him.
Feb 1 - 10:20 AM

Eric Gelinas has been sent down to the minors.

Devils GM Lou Lamoriello wasn't sure if Gelinas would be eligible to play in the AHL during the Olympic break. There are rules in place to prevent teams from dumping their young players in the minors just before the Olympics to avoid having them be subject to the break. Those rules, in their most simplified form, dictate that their AHL eligibility over the Olympics will be determined by how much time and games they spent with their NHL club. Gelinas has six goals and 22 points in 44 games with New Jersey this season.
Jan 31 - 1:04 PM

Eric Gelinas had a goal and two assists in the Devils' 7-1 victory on Tuesday.

Gelinas went through a bit of an offensive cold spell from late December to the middle of January, but he's shaken that off with points in four of his last five contests. He now has six goals and 16 assists in 40 games this season.
Jan 22 - 10:05 AM

Eric Gelinas netted the Devils' game-winning goal on Tuesday.

Gelinas scored it while his team had the man advantage. He's endured a cold streak offensively in recent weeks, but that was to be expected. He's still having a great rookie season with five goals and 18 points in 37 games.
Jan 15 - 9:41 AM

Devils coach Pete DeBoer isn't too concerned with Eric Gelinas' offensive slowdown.

Gelinas has just two assists in his last 10 games. "I don't think it was realistic that he was going to get 70, 80 points this year," DeBoer said. "He had a great start, he was rolling, everything was going right for him. You knew it was a matter of time before it dried up a little bit and, for me right now, it’s not the offense, it's him concentrating on the defensive play and the offense will take care of itself." Gelinas has 17 points in 36 games, which is good enough to put him in a tie with Seth Jones for second place among rookie defensemen.
Jan 14 - 5:59 PM

Eric Gelinas will play Thursday and the Devils will dress seven defensemen against Dallas.

Coach Pete DeBoer said a decision had not been made yet if Gelinas will get some time at forward in the contest. He hasn't played in New Jersey's last two games.
