Eric Gelinas is looking to crack the Devils lineup out of training camp this season.
Gelinas, who signed a one-year deal last week, started the 2013-14 season in the minors but was quickly called up and ended the season with seven goals and 29 points in 60 games. He played a lot on the power play and will continue to do so this season although it looks at this time as if Marek Zidlicky will still quarterback the first power play. "I'm not looking at it as I have a contract now, I have a spot on the roster," Gelinas said. "There's a lot of competition here. They're veterans. They've been in the league for a long time. It's just going to come down to how I play on the ice and how I handle myself with this competition." Gelinas should be drafted as a 4-5 defenseman in deeper leagues. Sep 21 - 8:11 AM

Eric Gelinas has agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with the New Jersey Devils.

"It worked out over the weekend," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "He's here and there are certainly no issues. He's just getting ready. I'm just happy to have everybody here and everybody ready. It's the first step towards getting our team together. We've got all our players here and now training camp begins." The 23-year-old defender recorded seven goals and 29 points in 60 games last season.

There are no updates in the Eric Gelinas contract negotiations.

GM Lou Lamoriello had this to say about the restricted free agent: "No (as to whether there is anything new to report), but these are all day-to-day things. I'm sure things have a way of working out. Eric knows what we think of him and the opportunity that is being presented to him. Not only to him, but to our other young defensemen with the moves made this summer (buying out Anton Volchenkov's contract and not re-signing Mark Fayne). I'm sure that Eric and his agent (Gilles Lupien) will make the right decision. They know what it is and it's there for them. They have to make that decision. Not me." Gelinas had seven goals and 29 points in 60 games last season and quarterbacked the power play for a good portion of the season.

Eric Gelinas won't attend the Devils' training camp until he's signed to a new contract.

Gelinas is a restricted free agent after scoring seven goals and 29 points in 60 games in 2013-14. His agent argued that Gelinas doesn't have the money to afford the insurance necessary to attend the Devils' camp as an unsigned player. If he attended the Devils' camp without a contract or insurance and got hurt, it would potentially be a big blow for him financially. The two sides have already agreed that Gelinas deserves a one-way contract, so at this point it's just a question of agreeing to a salary.

New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello wants to get something worked out with RFA defender Eric Gelinas done quickly.

"It's always a concern when a player isn't signed," Lamoriello said. "We'd like to get it done as soon as possible. I think it's in everybody's best interest. There's not much more I can say about it." Gelinas had seven goals and 29 points in 60 games with New Jersey last season.

The Devils are no closer to re-signing restricted free agent defenseman Eric Gelinas.

Gelinas does not possess arbitration rights so there is no urgency on the team to make an offer. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello stated Wednesday "There's nothing there, yet" with respect to negotiations with the blueliner.
Aug 2 - 7:05 AM

Eric Gelinas sustained a sprained ankle while playing in the AHL playoffs.

This is just an FYI as Gelinas should be fine by the time training camp begins. He had seven goals and 29 points in 60 games with New Jersey in 2013-14.
May 7 - 10:28 AM

Eric Gelinas has been assigned to the minors.

He'll try to help Albany secure their spot in the AHL playoffs. Gelinas has five points in 10 games in the minors and he's contributed 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) in 60 games with New Jersey this season.
Apr 12 - 12:05 PM

Eric Gelinas played on the fourth line Saturday.

The defenseman has seen plenty of duty up front as the Devils like his play there on occasion. The move on Saturday was deemed necessary as the Devils had a multitude of injuries at forward including Adam Henrique, Patrik Elias and Ryane Clowe. Gelinas had a limited role on Saturday as he saw only 4:44 minutes of ice time. He has seven goals and 29 points this season.
Apr 6 - 7:42 AM

Although the Devils have been experimenting with using Eric Gelinas as a forward recently, they still plan to use him as a defenseman in the long term.

"We played him four shifts up front (in the last game against the Maple Leafs) in order to keep him in the lineup and keep him in the game. I'm not making him a forward. It's not a permanent move," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "I don't know where it's going to go. That's as far as I want to talk about it." Gelinas has the potential to be a great offensive defenseman and he's already proved he can produce at the NHL level with seven goals and 27 points in 53 games in 2013-14.
Mar 26 - 5:19 PM

Eric Gelinas practiced as a forward on Tuesday.

"They call the position rover. I don't know what's going on. I switched jerseys twice today, so I have to be ready for anything, I guess," Gelinas said. He spent the majority of Sunday's game against Toronto as a forward and it looks like Devils coach Pete DeBoer is willing to push this experiment further. Gelinas has seven goals and 27 points in 53 games this season.
Mar 25 - 1:11 PM

Eric Gelinas returned to the New Jersey lineup on Sunday but played only 8:06 minutes as their seventh defenseman.

Gelinas has found himself as the odd-man out of late has he had missed four of the previous six games as a healthy scratch. He has a lot of offensive upside but it's hard to put him in your fantasy lineup if coach Peter DeBoer is having the same misgivings in putting him in the Devils starting 20. He has seven goals and 27 points in 52 games this season.
Mar 24 - 6:02 AM

Eric Gelinas played only one shift in the third period but coach Peter BeBoer said after the game that he was not hurt and it was a coaching move.

Gelinas has been terrific offensively but playing defense in the NHL requires a lot of seasoning and the Devils are bringing Gelinas along slowly. He has seven goals and 26 points in 50 games including 16 points on the power play.
Mar 9 - 8:43 AM

Eric Gelinas picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Islanders.

Gelinas has seven goals and 25 points in 46 games and the rookie defensemen has three points in the two games since his recall after the break. He is a fine offensive defenseman and is worth looking at in deeper pools.
Mar 2 - 8:36 AM

Eric Gelinas has been summoned from the minors.

He was sent down on Jan. 31 and the Devils' power play didn't fair well without him. The team went 0-for-12 in four games before the Olympic break after Gelinas' demotion. He leads the team with 13 power-play points this season.
