Biega will make $700,000 next year and $800,000 in 2017-18. The 27-year-old has four assists in 25 games with the Canucks this season. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Alex Biega will play in his 12th NHL game this season on Saturday.

The career minor leaguer played 347 AHL games and at the age of 27 is trying to become a regular in the NHL. "He competes hard, he is aggressive all the time," coach Willie Desjardins said. "I like that in him. He is excited to be up here, so he brings some energy. I think he has been a good fit." Biega has two assists and is a plus-five this season so his fantasy value is negligible, but he has been a solid member of the blueline corps and certainly his presence is good if you have either Canuck goaltender.
