In his NHL debut, Alex Biega scored the eventual winner as his first career goal in Monday's big 3-2 win over Minnesota.
It was a ripper too. As Henrik Sedin's deft backhand pass sailed past Alex Burrows, Biega stepped into it and put it past Devan Dubnyk through Burrows' screen. Biega took part in Saturday's pregame warmups, but was a healthy scratch. It was still a thrill for him though. "It was awesome," said Biega. "It's always great, even in an exhibition game, but in the season to actually get into the warm-ups and see Rick Nash and guys like that, it's great. It really puts the dream into reality." Biega, 26, hasn't made his NHL debut yet. He has two goals and 10 points in 25 AHL contests in 2014-15.

Vancouver re-signed Alex Biega on Thursday.

According to, Biega will make $600,000 at the NHL level and $150,000 in the AHL. The contract is his third straight one-year pact.

The Sabres will need to call up a defenseman from Rochester before Saturday afternoon's game against the Flyers.

Alex Biega is a candidate to replace the injured Tyler Myers on the Buffalo roster as is Drew Schiestel, Nick Crawford and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc. We are betting the versatile Biega gets the call.

Alex Biega has inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Biega had 23 points and 47 penalty minutes in 65 AHL games with the Rochester Americans in 2011-12. He is expected to start the 2012-13 campaign in the minors.

Alex Biega has signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

The deal will pay him $515,000 in 2010-11 and $525,000 in 2011-12. Biega was the Sabres' fifth-round pick, 147th overall, in the 2006 draft. He has spent the last four seasons playing college puck for Harvard University. Biega appeared in 131 games over that span, while registering 15 goals and 70 points. The defenseman is projected to start next season with Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Portland.
