Alex Biega has signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks.

Biega could have become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has six assists in 31 games this season. "Alex has an incredible work ethic and is always prepared," said Canucks GM Jim Benning. "He sets an example for our younger players to follow. We're pleased to have Alex as part of our team moving forward."

Alex Biega will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday night as the Vancouver Canucks visit the New York Islanders.

Biega has just two assists in 15 games so far this season with the Canucks. He has just one goal at the NHL level, scored back in his rookie campaign in 2014-2015. Sitting alongside him in the press box will be forward Nikolay Goldobin and injured defenseman Erik Gudbranson.

The Montreal native has yet to suit up for the Canucks this season. He'll be a healthy scratch alongside fellow Quebecer Michael Chaput.

Alex Biega and Philip Larsen are the projected scratches for Vancouver against Arizona on Thursday.

Biega has picked up three helpers along with 94 hits in 34 games this season. While Larsen has picked up six points with 22 blocks in 25 games.

Alex Biega will move up to forward on Thursday against the Islanders.

The defender will line up to the right of Reid Boucher and Michael Chaput on Vancouver's fourth line as Nikolay Goldobin is out sick with the flu. Through two dozen games this season Biega has posted three helpers along with 14 PIMs, 20 blocks and 57 hits.

Alex Biega will continue to sit for the Vancouver Canucks, when they play host to the Arizona Coyotes.

Missing tonight's game will mark this as Biega's fifth straight scratch. Anton Rodin will miss the game as well, replaced by Alex Burrows. The other healthy scratch is newly acquired Reid Boucher. Claimed off waivers from the New Jersey Devils after claiming him from the Nashville Predators the day before, who originally claimed him from the Devils in early December to begin this whirlwind.

He's only skated in 10 games in 2016-17, and he's accumulated two assists and eight penalty minutes this season. This will be Biega's fourth consecutive game as a healthy scratch. Teammate Alex Burrows will miss the game because of an eye injury.

Biega had not played since October 23 before a nine-game stretch (9-0-2-2) near the beginning of December. Alex Edler returns and will take Biega's spot in the lineup.

He has completed his conditioning assignment. Biega has suited up in just one game with the Canucks this season and that came back on Oct. 23.

Alex Biega has been assigned to AHL Utica on a conditioning stint.

The 28-year-old has played in a grand total of one game so far this season, so some game-induced conditioning is likely in order. In 59 career NHL games however, he has just eight points. So we'd leave him on the wire when he comes back.
