Mark Barberio will draw in for Eric Brewer against Minnesota on Saturday night.
Assistant coach Rick Bowness noted that this will be Tampa's ninth game in 15 days and of needing to find a "spark" and some "fresh legs". Subbing in the 24 year old Barberio for the 35 year old Brewer ought to accomplish just that as he'll line up next to nearly 24 year old Andrej Sustr. Nov 22 - 6:24 PM

Mark Barberio played for the first time since Nov. 1 on Monday night.

He logged 13:06 of ice time in a 5-1 win over the New York Rangers. Barberio posted one shot and a plus-1 rating. He has dressed in just four games and has spent most of the early part of the year as a healthy scratch. Eric Brewer took his place in the press box.

Mark Barbeiro, who has been the odd man out on the Tampa blueline, will get a chance to play Saturday night against the Capitals.

He will take the place of the injured Andrej Sustr. However, Barbeiro is not someone you should be rushing out to pick up on the waiver wire.
Nov 1 - 11:55 AM

Mark Barberio expects to get his first action of the regular season Monday night.

He has been a healthy scratch for Tampa Bay's opening five games of the year, but should get into the lineup with Victor Hedman sidelined. Barberio suited up in 49 games with the Lightning last season.
Oct 20 - 10:58 AM

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenseman Mark Barberio to a one-year/one-way contract.

In the middle of the NHL draft, the Lightning thought that this announcement was so important, it had to be done now. Barberio had five goals and 10 points in 49 games this season and should be a five-six defenseman with Tampa Bay in the 2014-15 season.
Jun 27 - 7:56 PM

Mark Barberio made his NHL postseason debut in Game 3.

He filled in for Sami Salo, who sat with an upper-body injury. The Montreal-native was a little too wired for the contest and he posted six penalty minutes.
Apr 21 - 11:21 AM

Mark Barberio got back into Tampa Bay's lineup on Sunday after sitting for nine straight games in the press box.

The Lightning dressed seven defensemen in the contest. Barberio returned to being a healthy scratch in Tuesday's win over Montreal, but coach Jon Cooper said it wasn't because of his performance. "I thought Mark played extremely well," Cooper said. "He was jumping into plays, and he probably had a couple of our best chances to score. I thought he was very good at breaking pucks out, and it's good to have guys that you can plug in." Barberio has 10 points and a plus-12 rating in 48 games this campaign.
Apr 2 - 11:07 AM

Mark Barberio has been earning his spot in Tampa Bay's lineup after he was a frequent healthy scratch earlier in the year.

He has also started contributing offensively with three goals and one assist in his past four outings. Barberio has eight points and a plus-16 rating in 34 games this season. He never doubted his ability to succeed at the NHL level, but his growing comfort level has helped him make noticeable improvements.
Jan 27 - 10:29 AM

Mark Barberio can finally get a haircut.

The Tampa Bay defenseman scored his first two career goals to help the Lightning beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on Sunday and move into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division. Barberio promised himself as a minor leaguer two years ago that he wouldn't cut his hair until he made it to the NHL and scored there. Now it's time for those shoulder-length locks to come off. "I was just going to let it grow, and I think it's gotten a little too long," Barberio said. "It's got to go, though," he added. "I made a promise."

Mike Barberio is listed as questionable for Saturday night's contest against Phoenix due to a lower-body injury.

He left Thursday's game with the injury and did not practice on Friday. Barberio has played well in spurts this season and has shown some offensive talent making him a lesser-known sleeper candidate once he returns to health.

Mark Barberio missed most of the third period on Thursday because of an undisclosed injury.

He sat out the last 12 minutes of the final frame, but the injury is believed to be minor in nature. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Mark Barberio impressed the Tampa coaching staff with his performance against the Blues Saturday night.

He registered his first career point (an assist) Saturday and jumped up into the play and created offense from the back end. Lightning coach Jon Cooper is obviously a fan. "He's got a dynamic part to his game,' Cooper said. "He can skate, he can move pucks, he jumps into plays, he's got a big-time offensive side to him. I thought he did an exceptional job." High praise indeed. Barberio also has a strong offensive track record in the minors. Last season he registered 42 points in 73 games with Syracuse and the year before he recorded a very impressive 61 points in 74 games with Norfolk. If you are looking for a sleeper defenceman pickup, Barberio may be your man.

Mark Barberio hasn't played since opening night.

He got into the lineup because of an injury to Sami Salo. He's been staying ready at practice for his next opportunity. "I've experienced this before, so I just have to make sure I stick with it, and if I do get a shot that I'm ready," Barberio said.
