Mark Barberio has been skating on Colorado's top defense pairing alongside Erik Johnson.
"I think he's been pretty good," said coach Jared Bednar. "He helps us in a lot of areas. You look at his ability to move the puck and contribute to our offensive scheme, I think he's fitting in. He defends hard and we're asking a lot of him, playing in the top pair and logging minutes against some of those top guys he's got to defend. But I think he's doing an admirable job." He was claimed off waivers from Montreal on Feb. 2 and he has posted seven points in 24 games with the Avalanche. Mar 23 - 10:18 AM

Barberio has received plenty of ice time since being claimed off waivers from Montreal earlier this month. He played a season-high 23:59 in tonight's loss. He isn't worth owning in standard fantasy leagues, but he's proven to be a solid pickup for Colorado.
Feb 16 - 11:44 PM

Mark Barberio scored his first goal as a member of the Colorado Avalanche in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to New Jersey.

Barberio got the Avalanche on the board with a power play goal at the 6:43 mark of the second period to tie the game at one. The Avs defenseman has seen his average ice time increase signficantly since being claimed off waivers from Montreal earlier this month. He's played 20 minutes or more in four of his six games with his new team. He has one goal and six assists in 32 games this season. Barberio is a useful hockey player, but he isn't worth owning in fantasy.

Mark Barberio says he's excited to be joining the Colorado Avalanche.

Barberio was claimed off waivers from Montreal earlier this week and he's looking forward to getting a fresh start. "It was a whirlwind 24 hours," Barberio said. "You go from a low of one team not really wanting you, to 24 hours later a team picks you up. It’s kind of a fresh start and new life and I’m excited." He's a solid pickup for the Avs, but don't expect him to provide any fantasy value.

The Colorado Avalanche have claimed Mark Barberio off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens.

Barberio has four assists, 10 penalty minutes, and a plus-one rating in 26 games with Montreal this season. It wouldn't be surprising to see him play a bigger role with the Avalanche, but his plus/minus is likely to fall into the negatives.

Mark Barberio will be a healthy scratch in Tuesday's game against the Sabres.

After being acquired in a trade with the Bolts last week, Nikita Nesterov will take Barberio's spot in the lineup. Barberio doesn't have any real fantasy value, but he's been a solid depth player for Montreal this season. Jacob de la Rose will also watch the game from the press box.

Mark Barberio has been assigned to the minors.

He is expected to play for St. John's in Wednesday's game against Binghamton. The Canadiens don't return to action until Friday against San Jose, so Barberio could be back with the big club by then to serve as an extra defeneman.
