Chris Tanev is still out indefinitely with what is believed to be a foot injury, according to coach Alain Vigneault.

However, GM Mike Gillis said that Tanev may "be back fairly soon." He has missed two games with the ailment, but could return before the end of the season.
Apr 11 - 3:16 PM

The Vancouver Canucks announced Tuesday that Chris Tanev (leg) will be sidelined indefinitely.

Coach Alain Vigneault says he's hopeful Tanev will return in time for the postseason, which sounds to us like Tanev will miss the remainder of the regular season. Tanev doesn't have a ton of fantasy value, but he's one of the Canucks' steadier defensemen and his absence will definitely be felt.
Apr 9 - 3:35 PM

Chris Tanev was out of the Vancouver lineup Monday with a leg injury.

Tanev has been one of the unsung heroes on the blueline, just being a steady defenseman for the first place Northwest Division Canucks. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 9 - 11:17 AM

Defenseman Chris Tanev of the Vancouver Canucks doesn't like the two-game suspension to teammate Alexander Edler for the hit he laid on Phoenix Coyotes' goaltender Mike Smith on Thursday night.

"He was just trying to look Alex off and hoping he wouldn’t go behind the net," reasoned Chris Tanev, who skated gingerly Friday on a bothersome right foot but will play against the Los Angeles Kings Saturday. "Alex was just trying to play the puck and Smith happened to be up against the wall. I don’t know really where he (Edler) could have gone. They’re both big guys and it’s definitely a tough play. I’m sure he (Edler) was trying to squeeze through him, but there wasn’t much space to move around. Alex was just trying to get his stick. It’s just one of those hockey plays, I guess."
Mar 23 - 12:44 PM

Chris Tanev was back in the Canucks' lineup against the Predators Thursday night.

He had left last Sunday's game with an arm injury but seems to have recovered as he registered an assist in the Canucks' 7-4 lopsided win. Tanev was also plus three for the evening. and took three shots on goal. That's a pretty good fantasy night for a defenseman.
Mar 15 - 2:48 AM

Chris Tanev suffered what appeared to be a hand or arm injury during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

Tanev left the game after blocking a shot, but his status remains a bit of a mystery. Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Tuesday that he has no update on Tanev. The undrafted 23-year-old blueliner isn't much a fantasy weapon so this news shouldn't affect most teams.
Mar 12 - 4:08 PM

Look for Chris Tanev to play alongside Alexander Edler Thursday.

His teammates think a lot of the undrafted 23-year-old. "He's a smart player," Kevin Bieksa said. "I see a lot of similarities to Alex Burrows. When he came up, people were saying the same things about him. He wasn't a good enough skater, he didn't have a good enough shot. But he just thinks the game so well. [Tanev] is really smart. He's really high percentage. And really poised. He gets the puck, and he has pressure on him, but he holds on to the puck and he makes the best possible decision every time." While we cannot recommend Tanev in fantasy pools as he has only a goal and three points in 15 games to go with a plus-three rating and six penalty minutes, he does make for a nice story.
Feb 21 - 10:53 AM

Chris Tanev netted his first NHL goal on Monday.

Tanev's scored in overtime to put the Canucks past the Edmonton Oilers. It took him 63 career games to reach that feat. The blueliner isn't expected to have any fantasy value in standard leagues this season.
Feb 5 - 11:04 AM

Chris Tanev has been sent to the AHL by the Canucks.

Tanev appeared in 25 games with the Canucks last year, tallying two assists. In 34 games in the AHL, the 22-year-old had 14.

Chris Tanev is working to bring a shooter's mentality to his game.

The 22-year-old, who is a sound defender and good passer, is entering the final year of his entry-level contract. He only has three assists in 64 games, but led all NCAA rookie defensemen with 28 points in 41 games in 2009-10, so there is some offensive potential. Tanev has always been a "pass-first, shoot-never" blueliner, but this offseason he's working to improve his shot and change his mindset. "I’m always looking to pass first and sometimes if you’re looking to pass and nothing is there, by the time you want to shoot there’s no lane there," said Tanev. "There’s definitely a lot of reinforcement from myself and the people around me to shoot the puck once in a while. When guys know you’re going to shoot it, usually that’s when the passing lanes will open up. It’s something I have to get better at and I’ll definitely be doing that more once camp starts."

Chris Tanev was recalled from the minors on Thursday.

Tanev was called up with the injury to defenseman Keith Ballard. He had 14 assists in 34 games with the Chicago Wolves. He has no fantasy value.

Chris Tanev is slated to play in Vancouver's top four when he returns to the lineup on Saturday afternoon against San Jose.

"I am looking for a little bit better stability with the puck," coach Alain Vigneault said. "Our whole defensive group here has been making some plays that have cost us quality scoring chances against that we need to get under control." The hope is that Tanev can help the team's transition game, so he'll get a shot to play with Alexander Edler in Sami Salo's absence due to injury.

Chris Tanev was called up by Vancouver on Wednesday.

He has skated in three games with the Canucks and has 12 assists in 25 contests with AHL Chicago this season.

Defenseman Chris Tanev, 21, has been sent to the Canucks’ AHL farm club Chicago Wolves to make room on the NHL team’s 23-man roster for the returning Ryan Kesler.

Tanev is on the second year of a three-year entry level contract and doesn’t require waivers, so this was a risk-free decision by the Canucks. A free-agent signing in the spring of 2010, Tanev was recalled last January when injuries struck the Canucks defence and he quickly impressed folks with intelligent play. Tanev was so solid that he found himself in the Stanley Cup final when blue line depth was again challenged. But numbers and the improved play of Keith Ballard have worked against him early on. Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said going to the Wolves would allow Tanev to get more consistent ice-time. "In Chris’ case, we wanted the young man to play," said Vigneault. "We thought that so far this year he’d done well but he was fighting for one of those No. 5 to No. 8 spots on our team. As young as he is, with the up-side he has, we wanted him to play (a lot)."
