Date:

Taylor Doherty will be out of action for at least six weeks after suffering a sliced Achilles tendon and subsequently undergoing surgery.

The Sharks are high on Doherty who was drafted in the second round of the 2009 Draft and think he is close to being NHL ready, so this could be a setback if the NHL resumes action in the near future. Doherty is a big defensive defenseman (six foot, seven inches) who will have little if any fantasy value but a player every NHL team needs.

Doherty had no points in three AHL games going into the contest. It was his first goal at the AHL level and it took him 70 career games to do it.
