Taylor Hall didn't get a spot on Canada for the World Cup of Hockey.
Canada named Brad Marchand, Matt Duchene, Joe Thornton and Claude Giroux to the forward group on Friday instead. "Tough decisions," said Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong. "It was nothing Taylor didn't do but we could only name so many guys. Taylor was a strong player at the Worlds as well as Marchand and Duchene." Taylor Hall has scored six goals on 16 shots in five games at the World Championship.

He entered this week's action tied for second in the tournament in goal scoring. Hall was great at the 2015 World Championship as well, where he had seven goals in 10 games to help Canada capture the gold medal.

Taylor Hall will join Team Canada for the third time during this summer's IIHF World Hockey Championship in Moscow, Russia.

Hall has seen a lot of success during his international career, including in 2014-15 WHC where he scored seven goals and 12 points in 10 games. However first he'll get one last opportunity to match and surpass his career high of 27 goals on Saturday.

Taylor Hall scored a goal and added two assists as Edmonton bid farewell to Rexall Place in style Wednesday night, thumping the Vancouver Canucks 6-2.

The Oilers played at Rexall Place, originally known as Northlands Coliseum, since 1974, when they were in the World Hockey Association. Next season, they are moving into a new downtown arena, Rogers Place. On Wednesday, Hall and rookie sensation Connor McDavid each had a goal and three points. Hall's goal was his 26th of the season. He brought his assist total to 38. McDavid's goal was his 16 and he has 32 assists. Patrick Maroon also contributed significantly to the Oilers' victory, scoring his 10th and 11th goals of the season. Nail Yakupov opened the scoring with just his eighth goal of the season. And Leon Draisaitl scored the final goal at Rexall Place, a power-play market at 18:03 of the third period. It was his 19th goal of the season. Edmonton has missed the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons, so a new venue may be what the doctor ordered.

Hall now has 36 assists to go along with his 25 goals this season in 79 games played. He has three points in his past five games.

Taylor Hall collected another couple of goals during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Sharks.

Hall is now up to 25 goals this season, just a pair shy of his career high - a mark he's reached twice already. His shooting percentage has dipped well under league average the last couple of months, but setting that new career high is as good as done at this rate.

The goal snapped a ten game goal-less drought for Hall who hadn't scored since January 18th. He also recorded four shots on goal in over 22 minutes of ice-time. He has 51 points in 58 games. Benoit Pouliot and Leon Draisaitl scored the other goals for the Oilers in a losing cause.

Coach Todd McLellan is splitting up Taylor Hall and Leon Draisaitl, at least for the start of Saturday's game.

Hall was practicing alongside Mark Letestu and Zack Kassian while Draisaitl remained with Teddy Purcell and added Iiro Pakarinen. Hall and Draisaitl were the best duo in the NHL for a time after the November injury to Connor McDavid but lately the pair have really cooled off. Hall has 18 goals and 50 points in 56 games but has not had a point in four games and has been a minus-five.

Teddy Purcell, Hall's linemate, also picked up three points, assisting on both of Hall's goals and scoring his 10th of the season after being set up by Hall at 18:32 of the third period. Purcell's assists were his 17th and 18th of the season. Hall's goals were his 17th and 18th of the season. He hadn't scored in seven games and had only one in 15. Hall's assist was his 27th of the season. The Oilers also got a goal Monday from Jordan Eberle, his 11th of the season. Edmonton has won on the Panthers' home ice seven times in a row, dating to the 2002-03 season.

Taylor Hall will be back on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Teddy Purcell Saturday.

The line was split up in the third period Thursday when coach Todd McLellan put Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with Hall. Hall has 15 goals and 40 points in 39 games. He is fourth overall in the Art Ross Trophy race so needless to say, he is a must start.
