It was thought that he could be a good offensive candidate for fantasy pools after his breakout season in 2011-12 when he had seven goals and 32 points in 61 games split between the Blues and the Blue Jackets but it is not to be. The incident occurred in the first period. Nikitin initially tried to stay in the game, but left after logging just 35 seconds in the second frame. For now, Nikitin will continue to travel with the club and will be examined further on Friday.

Nikita Nikitin scored a goal and registered an assist in Columbus's 2-1 OT victory over Calgary Wednesday evening.

Nikitin scored 2:25 into overtime. Calgary goaltender Reto Berra denied Artem Anisimov during an overtime scramble before Cam Atkinson found David Savard in the slot. His shot was blocked but the puck skipped to Nikitin, who hit the back of a virtually empty net for his first of the season to give Columbus the win. Nick Foligno scored the other goal for the Blue Jackets.

He has one assist and 13 blocks in six games this season. Coach Todd Richards didn't say who would be coming out of the lineup to make room for Nikitin.
