Nikita Nikitin (ankle) was able to play on Thursday.

Nikitin was expected to miss the start of the season due to his injury, so the fact that he was able to play in Edmonton's opener is a pleasant surprise. He had a minus-one rating in 18:55 minutes of ice time.
Oct 10 - 1:48 AM

Look for Nikita Nikitin (ankle) to start the season on the injured reserve list.

The move is still not official. Nikitin is expected to miss a couple of weeks so placing him on the injured list frees up a spot on the roster for another player. Look for Nikitin to be a key defensive player for Edmonton this season and he could get 25 points if healthy the rest of the way.
Oct 5 - 8:48 AM

Nikita Nikitin will miss a couple of weeks with an ankle injury.

The injury happened during Thursday's game and Nikitin was seen after the game in a walking boot. The injury will give defensemen on the bubble like Darnell Nurse, a shot to show what they can do at the NHL level at the start of the season.
Oct 4 - 6:56 AM

Nikita Nikitin suffered an ankle injury during Thursday's game.

Nikitin left the game in the second period and was seen wearing a walking boot after the contest. Oilers coach Dallas Eakins downplayed the boot, saying that it was just a precautionary move. "We're hoping it's just going to be a week, two weeks tops," Eakins said. Given that the Oilers' season opener is on Thursday, we wouldn't count on Nikitin being healthy in time.
Oct 3 - 10:48 AM

Coach Dallas Eakins was very impressed with the defensive duo of Nikita Nikitin and Mark Fayne on Saturday.

The Oilers acquired both during the off-season and the very early going looks promising as Edmonton was horrible on the back end last season, giving up 270 goals. Both are solid defensively but we cannot recommend either in traditional fantasy pools.
Sep 21 - 7:01 AM

Nikita Nikitin has agreed to a two-year, $9 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers, who gained permission from Columbus to negotiate with Nikitin, will now give the Blue Jackets a fifth round pick as compensation. Nikitin had two goals and 15 points in 66 games in 2013-14. He's a reliable top-four defenseman, but he saw his role with the Blue Jackets diminish last season, so it's not surprising that both parties decided that move on.
Jun 25 - 9:45 AM

The Edmonton Oilers have been granted permission to talk to Columbus defenseman Nikita Nikitin.

The Blue Jackets will not be retaining the services of the Russian defenseman and have given the Oilers 48 hours to make a deal. If one is done, the Oilers are expected to give up a fifth round pick to Columbus, likely the one the Blue Jackets gave the Oilers when Nick Schultz went to Columbus at the trade deadline. The Oilers are looking to upgrade their blueline and Nikitin is a good five-six defenseman. He has little fantasy value with two goals and 15 points in 66 games last season.
Jun 21 - 10:45 AM

The Edmonton Oilers have reportedly been granted a window to negotiate with pending unrestricted free agent Nikita Nikitin.

It was originally reported that the Oilers had acquired Niktin's negotiation rights, but there hasn't been an actual transaction yet. If a contract is agreed upon then a trade could follow.
Jun 20 - 9:30 AM

Nikita Nikitin appears as though he will be permitted to test the market as a free agent in July.

The Blue Jackets have plenty of young blueliners who stepped up in 2013-14 and the team is willing to give them a shot. "You can't fast-forward the young players if they're not ready," GM Jarmo Kekalainen said. "But you have to give them room to play, and to do that, you can't have too many guys in the same role. The bus gets crowded. We're working through it. There's plenty of time to get a deal done."
Jun 12 - 12:16 PM

Nikita Nikitin is hurt and won't play Monday night.

Coach Todd Richards wouldn't divulge what was bothering Nikitin. His ice time has fluctuated throughout the first five games of the team's first-round series against Pittsburgh.
Apr 28 - 4:35 PM

Nikita Nikitin (lower body) returned to action on Saturday.

Nikitin missed six games after he suffered the lower body injury on April 1. Nikitin has only two goals and 15 points in 65 games this season. It was thought that he could be a good offensive candidate for fantasy pools after his breakout season in 2011-12 when he had seven goals and 32 points in 61 games split between the Blues and the Blue Jackets but it is not to be.
Apr 13 - 2:42 AM

Nikita Nikitin suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday and he won't play in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Coach Todd Richards said that Nick Schultz or Tim Erixon will play in his place. Consider Nikitin day-to-day for now.
Apr 2 - 1:34 PM

Nikita Nikitin was back in the Columbus lineup on Saturday after being a healthy scratch the previous two games.

Nikitin played alongside David Savard as he replaced Nick Schultz in the lineup. Nikitin has two goals and 15 points in 64 games this season with a plus-11 rating.
Mar 30 - 8:57 AM

Nikita Nikitin (head) returned to action on Tuesday March 11.

Nikitin was unavailable for two games. He had a plus-two rating in 20:34 minutes worth of ice time in his return.
