Hurricanes GM Ron Francis cited Marcus Kruger's leadership as one of the main things the veteran forward brings to the table.
Carolina hasn't had a captain since Eric Staal was dealt in 2016, but the Hurricanes have added some potential leaders this summer in Kruger and Justin Williams. The fact that both of them have plenty of playoff experience is also an asset for a franchise that hasn't been to the postseason since 2009. Jul 6 - 4:13 AM

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Marcus Kruger from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2018 fifth-round pick.

Interesting. The Golden Knights had only acquired Kruger on Sunday in exchange for future considerations and they apparently have managed to almost immediately flip him for a draft pick. Kruger is a capable bottom-six forward and penalty killer, so he should serve as a nice complimentary player in Carolina. He's also someone who played a meaningful role in two Stanley Cup championships with Chicago. "We were determined to bring in experienced players with winning pedigrees and Marcus is another addition who fits that mold," said Hurricanes GM Ron Francis. "He's a solid, two-way center who has achieved success both in the NHL and internationally."

The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired Marcus Kruger from the Chicago Blackhawks.

All Chicago got in return was "future considerations." This move isn't surprising as Kruger being dealt to Vegas has been anticipated for weeks. What likely kept this from happening sooner was the fact that Kruger was owed a $2 million signing bonus on July 1, so by delaying the trade until now, Vegas saved that money. Kruger has been a solid bottom-six forward and penalty killer for the Blackhawks, but shedding his $3,083,333 annual cap hit was important for Chicago as the squad continues its constant battle to stay below the cap ceiling.

Marcus Kruger's has a modified no trade clause that kicked in today.

Kruger was strongly linked with a move to Vegas but the deal appears to have fallen apart. Once the Blackhawks inform Kruger they wish to trade him, Kruger's camp has 48 hours to provide a seven-team no trade list. As of right now, Chicago hasn't informed Kruger of any potential deal.

Although Marcus Kruger wasn't selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft, that might still be his destination.

Chicago reportedly might trade Kruger to Vegas in exchange for a defenseman. He doesn't bring much to the table offensively, but he's strong without the puck and when it comes to killing penalties. While parting ways with Kruger would be a tough pill for the Blackhawks to swallow, they could use the $3,083,333 in cap relief that a trade would provide.

It seems almost a certainty that Marcus Kruger will be selected by the Vegas Knights in the upcoming expansion draft.

The Blackhawks love Kruger's two-way game, but they simply can't afford him with two years left on a $9.25 million contract. It is being reported that Vegas has made a deal to take Kruger in the draft. We shall see if that is true. If it turns out that that is not the case, look for the Hakws to move Kruger in a trade.
Jun 11 - 11:37 AM

Marcus Kruger isn't paying attention to the speculation that he might be done with the Chicago Blackhawks.

"We all know what happens in the summer, and there's going to be a new team coming in and all of that stuff," Kruger said. "We have a history, too, of not being able to keep players. That's part of the business side of things, but I don't put too many thoughts into that. Right now I'm here, so I'm focused on [this], but it's going to be interesting to see what happens in the summer." He will likely be exposed in the expansion draft and could be traded if the Golden Knights don't take him.
