The Carolina Hurricanes might end up trading Marcus Kruger before the deadline.
Kruger is in the middle of a three-year, $9.25 million contract. He was sent to the minors after clearing waivers, so clearly there isn't much interest in that contract, but the Hurricanes might be willing to retain some of his salary to make a trade viable. That might be enough to lure another team as Kruger still has some value as a bottom-six forward. Feb 15 - 4:39 AM

Marcus Kruger successfully cleared waivers.

No real surprise there. While there are teams that might benefit from having Kruger in a bottom-six role, his current three-year, $9.25 million contract makes that undesirable.

Hurricanes GM Ron Francis cited Marcus Kruger's leadership as one of the main things the veteran forward brings to the table.

Carolina hasn't had a captain since Eric Staal was dealt in 2016, but the Hurricanes have added some potential leaders this summer in Kruger and Justin Williams. The fact that both of them have plenty of playoff experience is also an asset for a franchise that hasn't been to the postseason since 2009.
