It appears that centerman Marcus Kruger and the Chicago Blackhawks are "closing in on a deal."
The 25-year-old RFA Kruger is coming off a two-year, $2.65M contract, and his second Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks. Unfortunately, Chicago has only about $1.4M in cap space under the ceiling. Kruger has accumulated just 15 goals and 45 points over the last two seasons, while blocking 120 shots and winning well over half his face-offs while skating over 13 minutes per night. It's not yet known how much Kruger is seeking, but it won't break the bank. Jun 30 - 7:13 PM

Marcus Kruger will be a restricted free agent next week.

The Chicago Blackhawks want to bring him back next season. Kruger skates on the team's fourth line and serves as a solid penalty killer, but he doesn't have any fantasy value.

Marcus Kruger is fine to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

There was some concern that Kruger was injured in Game 7 of Stanley Cup Final, but if he was then it's something that he's able to play through. He has two goals and three points in 17 playoff contests.

Marcus Kruger will be back in the faceoff dot Saturday night against the Ducks in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

Kruger did not take any draws in Game 3 and the speculation was that he had some sort of an injury. Kruger has denied he was hurt and told reporters he will be back taking faceoffs Saturday night. Kruger has been one of the Hawks' unsung heros this round.

Marcus Kruger scored the triple overtime goal for the Blackhawks in their series tying 3-2 Game Two win against Anaheim.

Kruger ended the game at the 16:12 in the third overtime period as he poked in a rebound off a Brent Seabrook point shot. The goal was Kruger's second goal of the playoffs. Marian Hossa and Andrew Shaw scored the first two goals of the game on power play time but they came over 100 minutes before the Kruger winner in the first and second periods respectively. The series now shifts to the United Center.
May 20 - 2:39 AM

Marcus Kruger scored his first goal of the postseason when he put the Blackhawks up 3-0 late in the first period.

A classic example of a quality player who isn't captured by fantasy measurements, the goal was Kruger's fourth career in the playoffs. He now has just 10 points through 59 career playoff games. The Blackhawks would take the game on Friday night 4-3 to go up 1-0 in their series with Minnesota.
May 2 - 1:35 AM

Marcus Kruger (illness) returned to action on Saturday.

Kruger took a minor penalty as he saw 10:56 worth of playing time. Kruger ends the season with seven goals and 17 points and was a minus-five. He is worth taking late in a playoff pool only if you think the Blackhawks are going deep into the playoffs.

Apr 3 - 1:35 AM

Marcus Kruger scored a goal in Sunday's 4-2 win over St. Louis.

His fifth goal opened the scoring in the first period and it was the first time be found the back of the net since Dec. 3. He ended a 27-game goalless drought and a 19-game pointless slump. Kruger has 13 points in 53 matches and he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
Feb 9 - 11:52 AM

Marcus Kruger earned a pair of assists in Thursday's 3-2 win over Boston.

He picked up helpers on first-period goals by Klas Dahlbeck and Ben Smith to help give Chicago a 2-0 lead. Kruger has contributed 10 points in 29 games this season. He's a good role player and a strong penalty killer, but he doesn't have any fantasy value.

Marcus Kruger is "fine" to play in Game 6 after he took a hard hit from Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin on Wednesday.

"He takes some tough hits," coach Joel Quenneville said. "It looked like he probably got crushed, but it wasn't that bad. It was right in front of us. I got to see it. Sometimes you make contact with the boards and get hit pretty hard, but he's good about absorbing it, rolling off it. Tough, too." Kruger posted a minus-3 rating and logged 19:27 in Chicago's 5-4 double overtime win against Los Angeles.

Kruger had been seen limping after games during the second round but with a few days off after clinching in Game 6 on Tuesday, he is now fine. Kruger has played an amazing amount of games since the NHL resumed action on January 19, 2013 as he has played in 170 games, including the Olympics, the most of any NHLer. He found himself between Patrick Kane and Brandon Saad, as coach Joel Quenneville shuffled his combinations.
