Coach Mike Sullivan wanted defenseman Brian Dumoulin to watch from the press box Saturday.

"We felt his game has struggled a little bit as of late," Sullivan said. "And sometimes as a young player, it's not a bad thing to watch a game from up top. I think it offers a really unique learning experience. Listen, Brian Dumoulin is a good player. He's going to be a big part of this team. But we felt as though it was an opportunity for him to maybe take a step back, hit the reset button, get an opportunity to watch the game from up top, so when he does go back in the lineup, maybe he's got a little bit of a different perspective going in." Look for the blueliner to return to the lineup Wednesday when the Penguins take on the Islanders in Brooklyn.

Brian Dumoulin and Tom Sestito have been scratched against the Devils on Saturday.

Through 21 games this season the 25-year-old defender has just two points to his credit. He's only just reached 20 points in his career through 114 games, so we'd leave him on the wire.

Brian Dumoulin has an assist in 13 contests in 2016-17.

Nov 10 - 10:57 AM

Brian Dumoulin is expected to start the season as Kris Letang's partner.

Well that's a nice gig for the soon-to-be RFA. Dunoulin is sure to see a boost in playing time and responsiblity alongside Letang on the Pens' top pairing. "I think as his confidence developed, you started to see more offensive ability," said Assistant coach Jacques Martin. "I think he has the ability to join the rush. He’s an excellent skater. He has great vision. He has good ability to find the open man, whether it’s on the breakout or in the offensive zone. He has developed very well." Keep Dumoulin in mind late in your draft if you want to take a chance on a young player with a little bit of upside.
Oct 8 - 11:15 AM

Brian Dumoulin is entering the final year of his contract.

Dumoulin will make $800,000 in 2016-17, but with the way he played during Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup run last spring, he'll likely be in line for a nice raise. "I want to keep that confidence but keep that humbleness, too, where I need to earn my spot here and continue to get better. That's how I'm going into camp," Dumoulin said. "I'm not worried about getting a contract or anything like that. I just want to help this team win and play the best I can because I know things will take care of themselves the better the team does."
