Brian Dumoulin doesn't want to take his roster spot for granted after getting a one-way contact.
Dumoulin will come with an annual cap hit of $800,000 in each of the next two seasons. "I definitely want to make the team," Dumoulin said. "That's my goal. But just signing a one-way deal doesn’t guarantee I'll be on the team. I really need to earn my spot and create a spot for myself. Prove in the coaches' eyes and my teammates' eyes and management that I belong there and that I earned it and that I worked hard for it." For his part, Penguins GM Jim Rutherford is projecting that Dumoulin will serve as a top-six defenseman. Jul 10 - 11:08 AM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned Brian Dumoulin to the AHL.

Dumoulin played relatively well when called upon with the big club. He will now head to Wilkes Barre for their AHL playoff run. The 23-year-old had one point in eight regular season games, and no points in the post-season for Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were pleased with the play of rookie defenseman Brian Dumoulin during the playoffs.

The defenseman, along with his partner Taylor Chorney, were not on the ice for a Rangers goal in all five games and that is quite an accomplishment for the two blueliners. "It was tremendous to get in and play in the Stanley Cup playoffs," Dumoulin said. "People go their whole careers without getting an opportunity. Very fortunate to get in and play. I just didn't want to come in and play. I wanted to make an impact." Look for Dumoulin to make a bigger contribution next season as he has played in only 14 regular season NHL games to this point.

Brian Dumoulin might participate in his first playoff game on Thursday.

It depends on how Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) feels. Ehrhoff has been cleared for contact, but it remains to be seen if he'll be ready for the Penguins' playoff opener. Dumoulin has never played in an NHL postseason contest and has just 14 games worth of NHL regular season experience under his belt.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Brian Dumoulin from the minors.

Dumoulin scored his first NHL goal against Tampa Bay on December 15th. He's played in 14 games in the last two years and he's posted one goal and one assist during that span.

Brian Dumoulin's latest stay in the NHL lasted barely a day as he's been sent back down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

Dumoulin has only come up to the NHL as an extra body or on emergency basis, so this latest demotion is no comment on the budding star's potential. Keep an eye on him.

Brian Dumoulin scored his first career NHL goal on Monday.

It was Dumoulin's 10th career game. He fired a shot that deflected off of a Tampa Bay Lightning player before heading into the net. "That first one is always exciting," Dumoulin said. "It doesn't matter how it goes in. Just the fact that it went in, that's the biggest part. Getting the win and playing as well as we did was just as good as scoring."

Brian Dumoulin made his seasonal debut on Thursday in a loss to the Canucks.

Dumoulin partnered with Paul Martin as the Penguins were shut out 3-0. "Being my first game, there was a little nerves in the first period, especially my first shift," Dumoulin said. "[Martin] talks a lot and is so calm with the puck. He helps me out when I’m out there and it kind of settles me down a bit. He always talking. He always back hard for pucks. He makes the right plays. I just try to read off him and emulate him." Dumoulin had 10 points in 22 games for the Baby Pens in the AHL.
