Pittsburgh prospect Brian Dumoulin, along with a number of other Penguin defenseman, is feeling a playing time crunch with Wilkes-Barre of the AHL.

Due to the lockout and the Pens' over abundance of defensemen prospects, playing time with the Baby Penguins is at a premium. Dumoulin, Joe Morrow, Brian Strait, Robert Bortuzzo, Simon Despres as well as other lesser prospects are fighting for playing time and the lack thereof could affect their development. "It’s been tough," Dumoulin said. "You gotta bring your ‘A’ game, whether it’s in practice or in games, to make sure you stay in the lineup." At least the Pens have a number of excellent options for their blueline going forward.

Brian Dumoulin will begin the 2012-13 campaign in the minors with Wilkes-Barre.

He probably wouldn't have cracked Pittsburgh's roster at training camp if there wasn't a lockout since he doesn't need waivers to be sent down. This will also be his first professional season after three years with Boston College. Dumoulin, who was selected in the second round of the 2009 draft by Carolina, was shipped to the Penguins as part of the Jordan Staal trade in June. Baby Pens coach John Hynes praised Dumoulin's hockey smarts and he'll try to make the young defenseman play a consistent game in the AHL ranks this campaign.

Prospect Brian Dumoulin was sent to the Penguins, along with Brandon Sutter and the Hurricanes' eighth-round pick in the 2012 draft, in the deal that saw Jordan Staal head to Carolina.

The 20-year-old defenseman has played the last three seasons with Boston College, recording 28 points in 2011-12 while helping it win the NCAA championship. He recently signed a three-year entry level contract in Carolina, and he's likely to spend a good portion of the year in the AHL. He was the 51st overall pick in the 2009 draft.

Defenseman Brian Dumoulin, the Hurricanes second-round pick in last year's entry draft, was invited to a camp designed to help select the U.S. team for the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The Camp starts at the end of July in Lake Placid and lasts one week. The offensively-gifted Dumoulin, who registered 22 points in 42 games while guiding Boston College to the NCAA Championship, stands a good chance of making the team. Watch him.
