Brett Connolly has already played alongside a variety of linemates, as coach Claude Julien continues his experimentation with his lineup.

In just two games, he has skated with Gregory Campbell and Chris Kelly then Kelly and Max Talbot, followed by a line with Milan Lucic and Ryan Spooner and finally with Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson. The Boston Herald's Steve Conroy thinks Connolly should be tried out with David Krejci and Reilly Smith.

Brett Connolly's long-anticipated Bruins' debut couldn't have gone much better.

Connolly, who was acquired in a trade from Tampa on March 2nd, broke his finger in his second practice with the Bruins and had been sidelined ever since. Friday night he skated as Bruin for the first time and registered two assists in a 3-2 win over Detroit. Although that was a nice start to his Boston career, bear in mind he skated on the Bruins' fourth line alongside Chris Kelly and Gregory Campbell and had only 12:44 of ice time. Despite his pedigree, he is not a real fantasy asset at this time.

Brett Connolly (finger) skated at practice on Thursday.

He suffered a dislocated right index finger when struck by a shot from teammate Dennis Seidenberg during his second practice with the Bruins, but this session was incident free. "It's encouraging," said Connolly about getting back with his teammates. "I think it's been three weeks. We're trying to transition into getting me onto the ice and getting me in shape. It's a step in the right direction." He hopes to return before the end of the regular season.

Brett Connolly (finger) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab and he hopes to return before the playoffs begin.

Connolly was acquired from Tampa Bay on trade deadline day but he has yet to play in a game with the Bruins because he broke his finger in practice. The 22-year-old was Tampa Bay's sixth round pick in 2010 but he hasn't developed into the player many thought he could be. He's still young enough to reach his ceiling and a fresh start in Boston might just be what the doctor ordered for his career.

Brett Connolly had successful surgery and a plate inserted was into his broken finger.

He's scheduled to meet with doctors on Monday to determine what comes next in his conditioning. The plan for now is to have him stay in Boston, but coach Claude Julien wants Connolly to travel with his new teammates at some point.

Mar 4 - 1:02 PM

Coach Claude Julien hasn't decided where to play Brett Connolly yet.

GM Peter Chiarelli acquired Connolly with the belief that he could play in Boston's top-six group, but he skated on the fourth line with Gregory Campbell, Chris Kelly, and Brian Ferlin during his first practice. "I'll have to see," Julien said. "I think he's got skill. I know he can shoot the puck, but we'll see how he fits in with our hockey club and where he fits in with time."
