Brett Connolly has been recalled by Tampa Bay.

In 67 games with Syracuse this season, he has accumulated 27 goals and 57 points. Connolly suited up in 68 contests with the Lightning last year and he registered 15 points. He will fill in up front for the big club following the trade that sent rookie Cory Conacher to Ottawa.

Connolly had two goals and four points in three games with AHL Syracuse Crunch. He played in 68 games with Tampa Bay last season, but hasn't gotten a chance with them in 2013.

"We felt at this time, for our needs in Tampa and the role that he would play here, he's better off playing there," said GM Steve Yzerman. "He's playing a lot of minutes in all situations and he's getting better. So I'm very comfortable with where he is right now. He's going to be a good player for us. I just think he needs to play, and play a lot." Connolly has been great with Syracuse thus year, while scoring 15 goals and 33 points in 36 matches. He said he understands the decision even though he found it disappointing. Connolly skated in 68 games with Tampa last season and he ended up with 15 points.

Connolly has 25 points on the year. Tyler Johnson also had a goal and an assist in the game to give him 29 points, good for fourth in the AHL, nine points off the lead.

Connolly figures to be a very exciting NHL player in short order. He already has 23 points, with 12 being goals, this season. Alex Killorn and Tyler Johnson each tallied a goal and an assist as well in the win.

The Lightning's AHL affiliate is the first team to have four players (Tyler Johnson, Cory Conacher, Brett Connolly and Richard Panik) reach the 20-point mark. Connolly has been the hottest of the bunch with 15 points in the last 12 games. Syracuse also has three of the top four plus-minus leaders, too, in Ondrej Palat, Dmitry Korobov and Johnson.

Connolly has flourished in the AHL, with 11 goals and 22 points in 23 games, which is nice to see after he accumulated just 15 points in his 68-game rookie season. Connolly had only 15 points in his rookie season, but he certainly has the ability to put up better numbers. Things should only improve for the 20-year-old once the NHL season gets underway. He has 17 points in 18 games in the meantime at the AHL level.

He has plenty of potential, but it might be a couple of seasons before he has any fantasy value in standard leagues. However, he's definitely someone to keep an eye on, especially if he gets top-six minutes.
