The Coyotes have returned first-round 2010 draft pick Brandon Gormley to his junior team in the QMJHL.

He will once again toil for the Moncton Wildcasts. It's too early to consider Gormley a bust. However, there was some thought he could compete for a spot on the Phoenix blueline this season.

Phoenix Coyote's Defenseman Brandon Gormley was forced to sit out the first day of the Coyotes' Prospect Development Camp.

Turns out the missing equipment was sent to Mexico after a mixup at the airport in Phoenix. Once Gormley was finally able to hit the ice, he immediately displayed why the Coyotes selected him 13th overall in 2010. The 19 year old was very eager to show the organization how much he has improved since being drafted. Gormley recently signed an entry level contract with the Coyotes and is expected to start with San Antonio of the AHL.

The Phoenix Coyotes have added defenseman Brandon Gormley and right winger Philip Lane to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio on amateur tryout contracts.

Gormley was taken in the first round, 13th overall, in the 2010 draft by the Coyotes, while Lane was a second-round pick in 2010.

First round selection Brandon Gormley suffered a knee injury and will not play for Team Canada at the upcoming World Junior Championships in Buffalo.

Gormley was drafted 13th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes but was thought to be a top-six pick before sliding down the draft. He will be out for four-six weeks and is upset that he will not be able to play for Canada. Coyotes GM Don Maloney thinks that Gormley has a chance to make the team out of training camp next season. "He'll make a good run next year for a roster spot," Maloney said. "Time will tell. . . . If we've learning anything, we've learned not to force the young players here. But his type of game translates to the NHL." He is worth selecting in keeper leagues at this time.

The Coyotes are ecstatic they landed Brandon Gormley with the 13th pick overall.

Rumors surfaced that Phoenix GM Don Maloney had intentions of trading up from 13 in order to snag Gormley for his blue line. Things worked out well and Gormley fell right into their laps. "This was a very good pick," Maloney said. "I would say this was as good as we could ever expect."

Brandon Gormley was just happy to be drafted despite dropping to 13th overall on Friday.

Gormley was projected to be a top-six pick but fell to the Coyotes who were very surprised he was still on the board when it was their turn to select. "This was a very good pick," GM Don Maloney said. "I would say this was as good as we could ever expect." Maloney apparently attempted to trade up to the eight spot when both Gormley and Cam Fowler started dropping down. He couldn't do so, but lo and behold, Gormley was still available at 13. Great pick Don as Gormley is just a solid defenseman.

The Phoenix Coyotes have selected Brandon Gormley with the 13th overall pick of the 2010 NHL entry draft.

Despite lacking the offensive flare that both Cam Fowler and Erik Gudbranson boast, Gormley is viewed as the most reliable rearguard prospect. A smart player who can contribute on both the powerplay and penalty kill, the Murray River, P.E.I.-native is rarely noticed on the ice some nights, which is a testament to the lack of mistakes that Gormley makes. While he fell all the way to the 13th overall pick, it should be noted that Gormley’s nine goals with Moncton in the QMJHL in 2009-10 were more than both Forlwer and Gudbranson. Gormley will probably need at least another season in the minors before he’s NHL-ready, but Coyotes should feel fortunate to get a player of Gormley’s caliber with the 13th overall pick.
