The representatives for Nino Niederreiter and the Minnesota Wild have started to talk about a contract extension.
Niederreiter is eligible for unrestricted free agency at the end of the 2014-15 season so the Wild want to lock him up. Niederreiter is only 21 and was selected with the fifth pick of the 2010 draft by the New York Islanders who got rid of him too quickly as he was traded to the Wild during the 2013 off-season in exchange for Cal Clutterbuck and a third round pick (Eamon McAdam). Niederreiter scored 14 goals and 36 points this past season and added three goals and six points in the playoffs. Stay tuned. Jun 7 - 8:33 AM

Although the Minnesota Wild have been great at home in the playoffs, the flip side is that they've struggled on the road.

With Game 5 in Chicago, the Wild will need to find a way to reverse that trend. "We just have to make sure we go out with the same attitude and don't be afraid to make plays," Niederreiter said. "Usually on the road, we play a little hesitant, almost like we're waiting until something happens. We have to make sure we go out there and make it happen." Niederreiter pointed in Game 5 against Colorado as an example of a game where they went in with the wrong attitude. Niederreiter felt they were overconfident after taking Games 3 and 4. They ended up losing Game 5 in overtime.

Nino Niederreiter scored two goals and registered an assist in Minnesota's 5-4 overtime win over Colorado in Game 7 Wednesday night.

Niederreiter scored his first NHL playoff goals and they were more than important, as they got the Wild into the second round of the playoffs. He now has four points in seven postseason games. Dany Heatley also had a strong game with a goal and two assists, while Kyle Brodziak added three helpers in the victory. Mikko Koivu and Jared Spurgeon also scored for the Wild.
May 1 - 3:08 AM

Nino Niederreiter is projected to take Matt Cooke's spot on a line with Erik Haula and Justin Fontaine.

Cooke is expected to be suspended for his knee-on-knee hit to Tyson Barrie. Niederreiter has an assist in three playoff games.
Apr 23 - 3:04 PM

Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist in Minnesota's 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

He had a goal and an assist in his previous 13 contests. Niederreiter has 14 goals, 36 points and 172 hits in 80 games this season.
Apr 11 - 9:49 AM

Nino Niederreiter (upper body) returned to action on Saturday.

Niederreiter suffered the upper body injury on Monday against the Kings and missed only one game before his return Saturday. He had a couple of hits but otherwise was held off the scoresheet in a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh. He has had a good first season with the Wild as he has 13 goals and 34 points in 77 games with a plus-10 rating. Look for more of the same next season for the native of Switzerland.
Apr 6 - 2:35 AM

Nino Niederreiter (upper body) skated Thursday morning, but he won't play in Chicago.

"It'd be silly on our part to rush him back. This time of year, let's make sure we give him a chance to fully heal and get ready for the next one," coach Mike Yeo said. "We don't want him to come back for one period and then lose him for three weeks here. Let's just make sure we approach this with a bit of caution toward making sure we have him back and healthy for good." Niederreiter got his bell rung on a hit against Los Angeles on Monday, but he hasn't experienced any ill effects since then. Still, the Wild are being cautious with his recovery.
Apr 3 - 6:14 PM

Nino Niederreiter left Monday's 3-2 victory over Los Angeles with an upper-body injury.

He lasted just three shifts for 2:17 of ice time after he was hit hard by Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.
Apr 1 - 9:28 AM

Nino Niederreiter scored for the Wild in their 5-2 loss to the Canucks on Wednesday night.

Niederreiter's goal, his 13th of the season, snapped a six-game drought. Only 21, Niederreiter, who has 34 points, has predictably been inconsistent this season, but he does offer a lot of promise. Charlie Coyle potted the other goal for Minnesota. Mikko Koivu, Jared Spurgeon, Erik Haula and Ryan Suter had the assists.
Mar 26 - 10:05 PM

Nino Niederreiter has been moved to a line with Matt Cooke and Kyle Brodziak.

He had been playing with Charlie Coyle and Danny Heatley. Minnesota coach Mike Yoe is trying to coax out some scoring from his bottom two lines. Niederreiter has had his moments this season but he is still too inconsistent to be counted on for fantasy purposes.
Mar 22 - 10:35 AM

Nino Niederreiter is expected to stay on a line with Matt Moulson and Mikko Koivu for Saturday's game against Columbus.

The trio finished Minnesota's 2-1 win over the Rangers together. Niederreiter was promoted after he tallied his 12th goal of the season to open the scoring.
Mar 15 - 3:12 PM

With the addition of Matt Moulson and the return to health of Zach Parise and Miko Koivu, Nino Niederreiter is not likely to get much, if any, power-play ice time.

The Wild will use some combination of Parise, Koivu, Moulson, Dany Heatley, Charlie Coyle and Mikael Granlund on the first two units with Ryan Suter and Jason Pominville on the points of the first team and Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin on the points of the second unit. That leaves Niederreiter on the bench. Keep that in mind when assessing this fantasy value.
Mar 8 - 12:16 PM

Switzerland couldn't find the back of the net against Sweden on Friday.

The Swiss are great defensively, but they don't have much in the way of offensive options. Nino Niederreiter is one of their few exceptions, but the 21-year-old was denied on two shots on goal. He logged 18:33 minutes, which was more than any other Swiss forward.
Feb 14 - 9:54 AM

Nino Niederreiter picked up two points for the Wild in a 3-2 overtime win over Nashville Thursday.

Niederreiter's 11th goal of the season at 2:16 of overtime lifted the Wild to victory while Zach Parise and Jonas Brodin also picked up markers in the win.
