Nino Niederreiter's lower-body injury is a high ankle sprain.
Niederreiter was hurt during Thursday's game against Chicago. The Wild expect him to be sidelined for at least three weeks. As a response to that, Minnesota has moved him to the injured reserve list. With Charlie Coyle also suffering a major injury in the same game and Zach Parise and Mikael Granlund also sidelined, the Wild's forward depth will be put to the test. Oct 13 - 5:10 PM

Nino Niederreiter left Thursday's game against Chicago due to an injury.

Niederreiter was seen hobbling to the locker room with 13 minutes remaining in the match after a Blackhawks player fell on his leg. Coach Bruce Boudreau doesn't expect Niederreiter to play in Saturday's home opener versus Columbus. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Oct 13 - 10:17 AM

Nino Niederreiter is aiming to reach the 30-goal mark this campaign.

He produced career highs in 2016-17 with 25 goals and 57 points, but feels he is capable of more. "I definitely haven't had my best season yet," Niederreiter said. "Even last year, I don't think everything went perfectly smooth. There's always been stretches during the season where I don't find the scoresheet, and that's definitely something which I want to improve. My big goal is to get 30 in this league."
Aug 1 - 6:45 PM

Nino Niederreiter's new contract with Minnesota is a five-year deal worth $26.25 million.

That works out to an annual average value of $5.25 million per year. It also reportedly doesn't have any no-trade protection. Niederreiter has reached the 20-goal plateau in each of the last three seasons. He accounted for a personal best 57 points in 82 games last year.
Jul 30 - 7:26 PM

Nino Niederreiter and the Wild are close to agreeing to a multi-year contract, according to sources.

Niederreiter has an arbitration hearing slated for Thursday, but it looks like that won't be necessary. He posted a career year in 2016-17 with 25 goals and 32 assists for 57 points in 82 games. Niederreiter also recorded personal bests with a plus-17 rating, 53 penalty minutes, eight power-play goals, 186 shots and 14 multi-point performances.
Jul 30 - 7:12 PM

Nino Niederreiter's arbitration hearing is scheduled for August 3, but Minnesota hopes to have a new deal worked out before that happens.

"We'll keeping plodding along," GM Chuck Fletcher said. "Everyone's working hard, we've had good dialogue, but obviously we haven't gotten to the finish line yet. If you look around the league, negotiations tend to go right down to the arbitration day or the day before or the day after the hearing sometimes even. Nothing prods progress more than a deadline." It's believed Niederreiter is looking for a long-term contract north of $6 million annually, but he'll probably have to accept something lower.
Jul 26 - 7:43 PM

Nino Niederreiter has indeed filed for salary arbitration.

That confirms a report from Tuesday about his intentions. He scored 22 goals and 57 points in 82 contests in 2016-17, so he should see a pay bump after completing his three-year, $8 million deal.
Jul 5 - 6:41 PM

Nino Niederreiter has reportedly filed for arbitration.

The deadline to do so is Wednesday afternoon. This doesn't necessarily mean that Niederreiter will ever have his case go to an arbitrator as he'll still have time to negotiate with the Wild in advance of his hearing date. This is just a step along the way for the restricted free agent.
Jul 4 - 5:46 PM

The Minnesota Wild and Nino Niederreiter will begin contract talks next week.

Niederreiter is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1st. He scored a career-high 25 goals and 57 points in 2016-17. The 24-year-old will get a raise from the $2.67 million salary he had been receiving over the last three years.
Jun 24 - 5:24 PM

Negotiations with Nino Niederreiter's agent, Andre Rufener, are expected to begin after the expansion draft.

"[GM Chuck Fletcher] has to know first which player he's going to lose, what trades he's possibly going to make, so I have full understanding of that," said Rufener. "Neither Nino or me were counting on talking before expansion. For us, this is just a totally normal process. We're excited and looking forward to see how this is going to pan out. We're very positive and relaxed about it." Niederreiter isn't paying attention to the trade rumors and he is waiting to see what the Wild have to offer. He also has arbitration rights if talks aren't going well.
Jun 14 - 1:47 PM

A new contract for Nino Niederreiter doesn't appear to be imminent.

Minnesota has not started contract talks with Niederreiter yet. He can become a restricted free agent in July and he has arbitration rights. Niederreiter produced personal bests in 2016-17 with 25 goals and 57 points in 82 games.
Jun 7 - 6:32 PM

Other teams have calling the Wild about Nino Niederreiter, but GM Chuck Fletcher wants to keep him on the team.

"We're going to try to find a way to keep them both here," Fletcher said of RFAs Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund. "Certainly there are ways to do it, but you can't control everything. We need the cap ceiling, we need to know what will happen with expansion, there are other opportunities out there to improve our team. [Granlund and Niederreiter] are two more decisions we have to make within the context of a lot of other decisions that we'll have to make. It's challenging. There's obstacles. But it's actually exciting. There will be opportunities here to consider things that maybe we normally haven't considered the last couple summers. It's energizing." Niederreiter and Granlund are both eligible for arbitration, but that probably wouldn't be the best course of action because a two-year contract would take them to unrestricted free agency.
May 17 - 11:55 AM

Nino Niederreiter will be a restricted free agent this summer.

GM Chuck Fletcher described Niederreiter as a streaky goal scorer and that's a fair assessment. The 24-year-old winger had his best NHL season in 2016-17 with 25 goals and 57 points in 82 contests. It will be interesting to see what kind of a deal Niederreiter gets in the off-season.
Apr 27 - 9:48 AM

Nino Niederreiter generated a goal and an assist Thursday night.

He recorded both points in the third period to help Minnesota post a 4-3 win over Colorado. Niederreiter has five goals and three assists in the last six matches, which includes five points in the past two. He has recorded a career-high 25 goals this season and he has 57 points.
Apr 7 - 11:34 AM

Nino Niederreiter picked up two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Niederreiter scored a goal and an assist in a wild six-goal first period. He then added his second tally of the game to make it 5-3 for his team at the 14:18 mark of the third period. The Wild forward now has four goals in his last four contests. He's up to 24 goals and 55 points in 80 contests. The victory allowed the Wild to lock up second place in the Central Division. They're guaranteed to have home-ice advantage in the opening round.
