Nino Niederreiter is looking to build on the success he had last season.
Neiderreiter registered 14 goals and 36 points playing primarily on Minnesota’s third line last season. The Wild do have an opening in their top-six forward group, and the 22-year-old is in the running to fill that spot. "I've been very pleased with his camp," coach Mike Yeo said. "He looks very motivated, and he looks great on the ice. We still treat Nino like a young player, so we keep pushing him every day. It's got to be about the next day. But up to this point, I've been very pleased." If he's placed in the right situation, Neiderreiter may be a good candidate for a breakout season. Oct 4 - 11:18 AM

Nino Niederreiter scored and assisted for the Wild in their 4-3 win over the Jets on Saturday night.

Of course, it's only the preseason, but it certainly appears the Wild have found themselves a good young player. All it took was some patience for the 22-year-old who had 14 goals and 36 points last season and should improve in this campaign. Mikael Granlund, Erik Haula and Jared Spurgeon notched the other goals. Nicklas Backstom made 14 saves on 17 shots in the full game.

Nino Niederreiter wants to be a top-six forward this season, but he's unlikely to get his wish.

The Wild already have combinations of Zach Parise-Mikael Granlund-Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek-Mikko Koivu-Charlie Coyle at the start of camp, which will bump Niederreiter to the third line at least. However, coach Mike Yeo is encouraging him to be demanding and to strive for a higher spot.

Minnesota has inked Nino Niederreiter to a three-year, $8 million contract.

"I'm glad it's over and I'm part of the Wild family again," Niederreiter said. "I think it's all about now. The season's coming up and I think I found a way to score goals in the league and felt I got better and better as last season went on, so now I'm very happy to focus and not worry about the contract situation. Now I just want to go out there and play and really, really work on things." He notched 14 goals and 36 points, along with 175 hits, in 81 games last season during his first year with the Wild.

Nino Niederreiter's agent, Andre Rufener, believes that his client is close to re-signing with the Minnesota Wild.

Niederreiter is a restricted free agent and recently turned down a lucrative offer from a KHL club. "We are close [to a contract with the Wild], and I really hope and I truly believe that we can get it done," Rufener said. "It's in our best interest to get it done before camp [Sept. 18], so that's what we're trying to do." The contracts Niederreiter and the Wild have been discussing have ranged from two-to-six years, so it will be interesting to see what he ends up with. He had 14 goals and 36 points in 81 games in 2013-14.

Nino Niederreiter's agent said his client has turned down a "huge" offer from a KHL club.

Niederreiter is a restricted free agent and a recent report suggested that a sizable gap remains between him and the Minnesota Wild. However, progress has been made in the negotiations and there's still hope that he'll re-sign before the start of training camp. Meanwhile, the KHL has also emerged as a possible destination for fellow Wild RFA Darcy Kuemper.
Sep 9 - 12:57 PM

According to Michael Russo of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, the Wild and Nino Niederreiter are "a ways apart" in their contract talks.

However, there's still hope that a deal can be reached by the time players report for training camp next Thursday. Minnesota feels they have depth to fill in for Niederreiter's absence if his negotiations linger. It could open the door for a player like Jason Zucker, who started the 2013-14 season in the minors after a disappointing camp. It's believed that the Wild are looking at a contract between two-to-four years.

GM Chuck Fletcher feels he has to get Nino Niederreiter's contract done right with some key restricted free agents in need of deals next summer.

Mikael Granlund, Charlie Coyle, Erik Haula, Jonas Brodin and Marco Scandella are among that group. Fletcher feels Niederreiter's deal could affect the others. It's possible that Niederreiter could miss the start of training camp, but Minnesota feels there will be plenty of competition to act as insurance.
Sep 1 - 4:53 PM

There haven't been any contract talks between Minnesota and Nino Niederreiter lately.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher plans to reach out to his restricted free agents (Niederreiter and Darcy Kuemper) in the near future. "We're over a month 'til camp," he said. "We'll keep plugging along."
Aug 15 - 6:24 PM

Forward Nino Niederreiter and the Minnesota Wild have yet to reach an agreement on a contract for the restricted free agent.

The gritty forward is one year away from reaching unrestricted free agency, but both sides appear interested in signing a deal that keeps the player in Minnesota for multiple years. Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said Friday that the team had been engaging in ongoing discussions with Niederreiter's representatives and there is hope a new contract will be reached soon.
Aug 2 - 8:06 AM

The representatives for Nino Niederreiter and the Minnesota Wild have started to talk about a contract extension.

Niederreiter is eligible for unrestricted free agency at the end of the 2014-15 season so the Wild want to lock him up. Niederreiter is only 21 and was selected with the fifth pick of the 2010 draft by the New York Islanders who got rid of him too quickly as he was traded to the Wild during the 2013 off-season in exchange for Cal Clutterbuck and a third round pick (Eamon McAdam). Niederreiter scored 14 goals and 36 points this past season and added three goals and six points in the playoffs. Stay tuned.

Although the Minnesota Wild have been great at home in the playoffs, the flip side is that they've struggled on the road.

With Game 5 in Chicago, the Wild will need to find a way to reverse that trend. "We just have to make sure we go out with the same attitude and don't be afraid to make plays," Niederreiter said. "Usually on the road, we play a little hesitant, almost like we're waiting until something happens. We have to make sure we go out there and make it happen." Niederreiter pointed in Game 5 against Colorado as an example of a game where they went in with the wrong attitude. Niederreiter felt they were overconfident after taking Games 3 and 4. They ended up losing Game 5 in overtime.
May 11 - 9:17 AM

Nino Niederreiter will play on the Wild's top line on Tuesday.

Niederreiter has been held off the scoresheet for two straight games after stepping up in Game 7 of the first round with two goals and an assist. Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle will play alongside Niederreiter.
May 6 - 3:44 PM

Nino Niederreiter scored two goals and registered an assist in Minnesota's 5-4 overtime win over Colorado in Game 7 Wednesday night.

Niederreiter scored his first NHL playoff goals and they were more than important, as they got the Wild into the second round of the playoffs. He now has four points in seven postseason games. Dany Heatley also had a strong game with a goal and two assists, while Kyle Brodziak added three helpers in the victory. Mikko Koivu and Jared Spurgeon also scored for the Wild.
May 1 - 3:08 AM

Nino Niederreiter is projected to take Matt Cooke's spot on a line with Erik Haula and Justin Fontaine.

Cooke is expected to be suspended for his knee-on-knee hit to Tyson Barrie. Niederreiter has an assist in three playoff games.
