Emerson Etem did not impress the Rangers during training camp.
Acquired in the Carl Hagelin trade, Etem was supposed to jump right into the third-line role. Instead, he’ll likely be a healthy scratch in Game 1. "His camp has been pretty average, and I think he knows that, I think we all know that," general manager Jeff Gorton said. "We’ve known him for a long time. We know the player, we scouted the player, we’ve liked what we’ve seen. He’s yet to show that to maybe all of you guys, but we have faith that in time he’s going to show us that." Etem had 10 points in 45 games last season. Oct 3 - 8:34 PM

Emerson Etem thinks he will be able to contribute on the penalty kill in New York.

The Rangers moved Carl Hagelin to the Ducks for Etem at the draft. "I was often on the PK (in Anaheim)," Etem said. "I feel like I’m a PK kind of guy. I feel like I’m good in a shutdown role. And when I get time and space, I like to utilize my speed. Hopefully I get that opportunity and, when it comes, I’ve just got to prove I am a PK guy." He had 10 points in 45 games last season. The Rangers need him to be a more consistent player.

Emerson Etem has agreed to a contract extension with the New York Rangers.

The terms of the deal haven't been made available. Etem was a restricted free agent coming off of his entry-level deal. The Rangers got him from Anaheim in June as part of a deal involving picks and former Ranger Carl Hagelin. Etem had five goals and 10 points in 45 contests last season. He has a significant amount of offensive upside, but the big question is if he can secure a top-six spot with the Rangers. That's far from a safe bet, but he's nevertheless worth keeping an eye on during training camp.

The New York Rangers traded for Emerson Etem, plus picks 59 and 179 for Carl Hagelin and the 41st pick.

Hagelin might be a little more impressive at this point in his career, but it appears that the Rangers were trying to save a little money in this case. Etem's also an interesting potential-based pickup.

The Anaheim Ducks seem poised to make Emerson Etem a healthy scratch against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 7 of the WCF on Saturday.

The California native is likely to be replaced by Tomas Fleischmann thanks to the latter's edge in experience. Etem, 22, has three goals and zero assists in 12 postseason games. In the five games he's played in this series, he's managed a single goal and 12 SOG. It seems like there's only a marginal box score difference between Etem and Fleischmann, at least at this point in their respective careers.

Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau was mulling over a couple of new lines during practice on Friday, which may leave Emerson Etem in the press box for Game 7.

Kyle Palmieri was dropped to the fourth line to help flank Rickard Rakell with Tomas Fleischmann. Meanwhile Jiri Sekac, who replaced Palmieri on the third line, winged Andrew Cogliano with Nate Thompson. "I wanted to make sure that if that’s the route we’re going to go, then I wanted to see if they at least had sort of some good chemistry together," said Coach Boudreau of the mixes. "By no means are those set in stone." If they are, Etem will be a healthy scratch.

Emerson Etem will draw back into the Ducks lineup for Game 6 Wednesday in Chicago.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau will insert the gritty, speedy winger back on the fourth line with Jiri Sekac and Rickard Rakell, replacing Tomas Fleischmann. Etem sat out Game 5 but has played 11 games overall this postseason where he has netted three goals on 23 shots, including a goal in the Ducks' 5-4 double-overtime loss in Game 4.

Emerson Etem was back on the fourth line during Wednesday's morning skate.

Emerson Etem will probably spend Friday's game in the press box.

Etem did a fantastic job getting past Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba before using a backhander to find the back of the net. It's one of those markers that really should be watched. It was also his first and only goal of the first round series as Anaheim eliminated Winnipeg in four games.
