The New York Rangers called up Dylan McIlrath on Sunday.

McIlrath comes into the mix at a time in which the Rangers are hurting on defense. The 22-year-old was the 10th pick of the 2010 NHL Draft. He could be a good source of PIM: he generated 165 in 62 AHL games last season.

Dylan McIlrath will have an MRI on his right knee.

McIlrath had problems all last year with the knee and re-injured it last night in an AHL game. He played two games with the Rangers this season and amassed seven penalty minutes.

The New York Rangers have demoted Dylan McIlrath.

The move was done Thursday night before the holiday roster freeze. McIlrath has seven points and 115 penalty minutes in 24 AHL contests this season.

Dylan McIlrath spent Wednesday's game in the press box.

McIlrath has no points and seven penalty minutes in two games. He was taken with the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, so you would have to think that the Rangers aren't going to keep him in the NHL for long if they plan to make a habit of scratching him. Still, he put the best spin possible on the news, calling it "just part of the process."

Dylan McIlrath got into his first NHL fight on Sunday.

The defenseman did not pick a lightweight when he tangled with the Flames Brian McGrattan and his teammates were so happy with his performance that they named him the player of the game. McIlrath will help you in the penalty minutes category and not a lot else in fantasy hockey.

Dylan McIlrath had a minus-one rating in his NHL debut on Thursday.

McIlrath also recorded a hit in 8:55 minutes of ice time. "I was pretty nervous, but I was very excited coming in," he said. "I know I made a rookie mistake there on that pinch that cost us a goal. It was getting my nerves under control. Once I settled that down, I started making better reads." The 21-year-old's offensive upside isn't noteworthy, but he might someday lead the NHL in penalty minutes.

Dylan McIlrath will make his NHL debut Thursday night.

He's projected to line up alongside John Moore when the Rangers battle Columbus. McIlrath is expected to add physicality to the team's back end and could be a good pickup for fantasy GMs seeking penalty minutes.

Dylan McIlrath has been called up by the New York Rangers.

McIlrath has seven points and 115 penalty minutes in 24 games this season. He always tends to get a ton of PIM and there's no reason to believe that will change in the NHL.

Dylan McIlrath has been cut from the New York Rangers' lineup.

McIlrath will report to AHL Hartford. He has five points and 125 penalty minutes in 45 AHL games last season.

Dylan McIlrath struggled defensively in Tuesday's preseason game.

McIlrath turned the puck over too many times and will likely start the season in the minors. He was selected 10th overall in the 2010 Draft and should see some time with the Rangers this season. He is a solid defensive defenseman usually but will not have much fantasy value in traditional pools.

Dylan McIlrath is currently attending New York's five-day prospect camp.

He sustained a dislocated kneecap in a collision during last year's prospect camp, but he expects to be at full strength for training camp where he hopes to land a roster spot with the Rangers. "I think I have a legitimate shot," McIlrath said. "I'm going to work my hardest. The knee is not an excuse anymore. It's over and done with. Hopefully, by camp, I'm 100 percent and I know I'll be ready so I feel I have a good shot. I still feel it. Typically, it takes a bit over a year to fully go away with a knee injury like that. It's definitely enough where I can get stronger and better. Structurally, it's 100 percent. They wouldn't have cleared me to play (otherwise). I played with pain the whole year."

Dylan McIlrath had a follow-up procedure on his knee.

McIlrath underwent knee surgery in July. The latest procedure went "very well" and he's "making great progress." The bad news is that he hasn't been given the green light to resume skating.

Dylan McIlrath underwent knee surgery on Friday.

McIlrath dislocated his knee during the Rangers' prospect camp. The team plans to re-evaluate him during the summer, but there's currently no timeline for his return. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Dylan McIlrath dislocated his kneecap during the Rangers' prospect camp the last week of June.

It's unknown whether the team's rugged defense prospect will be available for September's training camp. McIlrath, the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft, underwent surgery Friday at the NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan. The Rangers said there was no timeline for his recovery yet, only that he would be re-evaluated throughout the summer.
