Austin Watson scored a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 7-5 win over Ottawa.
That's right, 7-5. Ottawa had a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes and a 5-4 lead after 40, but the Preds answered with three goals in the third period to get the win. Watson's goal gave the Predators a 4-3 lead in the second period. His assists came on goals from Mattias Ekholm and Gabriel Bourque. Watson has two goals and five points in 11 games this season. Austin Watson scored a shorthanded goal in Nashville's 5-2 loss to Columbus on Tuesday.

Watson opened the scoring at the 9:03 mark of the first period, but the Jackets responded with five unanswered goals of their own. The 23-year-old was Nashville's first round pick in 2010 and he's spent the majority of the last three seasons with Milwaukee in the AHL. Watson is still on a two-way contract so that definitely doesn't play in his favor, but he could still make the Predators' final roster. Nashville will host Carolina in their regular season opener on October 8th.

"He's certainly benefited from his time in Milwaukee," GM David Poile said. "His development, playing in lots of situations, playing offensively, defensively and playing a lot at center ice. Last year, playing a lot on the wing. Scoring 20 goals down there I think gives him some good stats coming in here that he's just not a checker, but there is some upside." He appeared in six games with the Predators in 2012-13, but he hasn't played in the NHL since then and admitted that it has been frustrating. Watson still has a two-way deal this year, so he will have to prove himself at training camp.

Austin Watson has signed a two-year contract with Nashville.

His new deal is a two-way pact next season that will pay him $575,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 in the AHL. In 2016-17, his contract turns one-way and it's worth $575,000. Watson registered 26 goals and 44 points in 76 games last season with AHL Milwaukee. He's expected to challenge for a roster spot at training camp.

Nashville Predators recall Austin Watson from AHL Milwaukee.

Watson was recalled along with Daniel Bang and Kevin Henderson on Tuesday. With Nashville out of the playoff chase, the Predators are using their final few games to evaluate some of their young talent. The trio will play tonight and Thursday before heading back to Milwaukee for the Admirals' first playoff game Friday night.

Watson made his NHL debut April 7 but had yet to register a point in five games with the Predators. He'll be much better suited for the AHL at this point of his career where he can continue to develop confidence and grow. Watson, the Predators' No.1 pick in 2010, had 20 goals and 36 points in 68 AHL games season.

Watson had one shot on goal in 13:47 minutes of action. "It was a good experience, wish we would have come out with the win. But for a first game, it's good to get under my belt," Watson said. "Just a little bit of nerves and trying to get on the same page as everybody who has been here throughout the year. Overall just a really good experience. Wish we would have come out with the win." Austin Watson potted the game winner for Milwaukee late in the third period to give the Admirals a 4-3 win over Chicago.

The AHL rookie has 12 goals and 19 points in 32 games. Taylor Beck, who is the Admirals' leading scorer, had two helpers in the contest to give him 22 points on the year.
