Nov 15 - 8:25 PM

The New Jersey Devils have taken Jon Merrill (finger) off the injured reserve list.

That's not much of a surprise given that it had already been revealed that Merrill had been medically cleared to play. The only question is if he's back in game shape after sustaining the injury during the preseason. It wouldn't be surprising if he's a bit rusty after missing the Devils' first 14 games.
Nov 15 - 4:13 PM

Jon Merrill (finger) has been medically cleared to return to the Devils' lineup.

Merrill needs to get into game shape before he'll be inserted into the lineup though. He sustained the injury during the preseason, so rust is a concern at this point.
Nov 15 - 11:06 AM

Jon Merrill (finger) will travel with the Devils on the team's upcoming road trip.

Oct 5 - 12:49 PM

Jon Merrill missed practice Sunday after suffering a lower-body injury Saturday.

Coach John Hynes said that it was just precautionary. Merrill had only five points in 47 games last season but he is certainly capable of more. Not that he has a lot of fantasy value but do not be surprised if Merrill gets to the 25 point mark this season.
Oct 3 - 8:49 AM

Jon Merrill has looked good thus far in training camp.

Merrill had off-season surgery on his shoulder and there was some question as to whether or not he would be able to start the season. Well there is no worries about that now as the blueliner has looked good. The Devils are looking for a defenseman who can score and Merrill thinks he can contribute. "Inconsistency is something I’ve struggled with throughout my career," Merrill said. "It’s my fourth year. I want to be more reliable every night. I think I can be that guy." Merrill had only five points in 47 games last season so don`t expect a lot this season.
Sep 25 - 7:28 AM

The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenseman Jon Merrill to a two-year contract.

Merrill will get $2.75 million over the two seasons for a cap hit of $1,137,500 per season. Merrill was quickly signed after he did not get a qualifying offer from the Devils this week. He is expected back in late September after undergoing shoulder surgery in late March. He had only a goal and five points with a minus-15 rating in 47 games this season. He shouldn't be drafted at this time but expect a lot more out of him in 2016-17.

Jon Merrill has undergone successful shoulder surgery

Merrill didn't play past March 19 due to the injury. He's expected to need another four months to recover so he should be ready for the regular season, but you should probably temper expectations for him as this could limit his ability to get ready for 2016-17 over the summer and training camp. Additionally, any setback in his recovery could end up eating into the campaign.
May 25 - 2:12 PM

Coach John Hynes has confirmed that Jon Merrill won't return this season because of a shoulder injury.

He accounted for one goal, four assists, 30 shots and a minus-15 rating in 47 games with New jersey this season.
