Jarred Tinordi struggled mightily in Montreal's 5-4 preseason loss to Ottawa on Saturday night.
The big stay-at-home defenseman finished the night with a giveaway, no hits, no blocked shots and a minus-3 rating. The 23-year-old was Montreal's first round pick, 22nd overall, in 2010 but he hasn't been able to establish himself as a refular in the NHL just yet. One of the things working in Tinordi's favor is that Montreal would have to put him on waivers if they decide to send him back to the AHL. Considering his size (6'6, 225 pounds) and his age, there's no guarantee he wouldn't get scooped up by another team. Expect him to start the season as Montreal's seventh or eighth defenseman. Jarred Tinordi would have to clear waivers to be sent down to the minors, so he'll probably start the season with Montreal.

The Canadiens may carry eight defensemen, but it wouldn't be an ideal situation to have young defenders like Tinordi or Greg Pateryn sitting out games. That could lead to a trade taking shape if GM Marc Bergevin can find a willing partner.
Oct 1 - 10:27 AM

Jarred Tinordi is competing to be Montreal's seventh defenseman this season.

He is vying for the position with Greg Pateryn and Mark Barberio at training camp. "I am excited. It's been a while since I played a game," said Tinordi, who had his 2014-15 ended early because of wrist surgery. "I am looking forward to playing a real game against an opponent." Tinordi has 43 games of NHL experience since being drafted 22nd overall in 2010.
Sep 22 - 10:41 AM

Jarred Tinordi has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Montreal.

Feb 27 - 12:31 PM

Jarred Tinordi dropped the gloves with Blue Jackets forward David Boll on Saturday.

Tinordi didn't like the way Boll went after teammate Christian Thomas. The 23-year-old has now dropped the gloves in both games he's played since being called up from Hamilton last week. Tinordi will never put up big offensive numbers, but he could be a good source of penalty minutes if he's able to stick with the club. He has 12 penalty minutes in his last two contests.
Feb 22 - 9:20 AM

Jarred Tinordi brought a physical presence to Thursday's game against Florida.

Tinordi dished out some hits and even dropped the gloves with Alex Petrovic. The 23-year-old has spent the majority of the season with Hamilton in the AHL, but recent injuries to Alexei Emelin and Sergei Gonchar have opened up a spot for him in Montreal. He should be a good source of hits and penalty minutes while Gonchar and Emelin are out.
Feb 21 - 8:46 AM

Jarred Tinordi will pair with Greg Pateryn in Thursday night's tilt with the Florida Panthers.

The 24 year old defender Pateryn has compiled 17 goals, 47 points, and 123 PIMs in 117 games with AHL Hamilton since 2013. While Tinordi has profiled much more closely to a classic rugged, defensive defenseman with just 16 points and 104 PIMs in 82 games with Hamilton over the same time.
Feb 19 - 5:40 PM

Jarred Tinordi has been summoned from the minors.

The Canadiens were in need of another defenseman after losing Sergei Gonchar and Alexei Emeline to upper-body injuries. Tinordi's last appearances in the NHL came on Nov. 5 against Buffalo.
Feb 19 - 11:05 AM

Jarred Tinordi will surprisingly be back in the lineup for the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night after suffering a concussion.

He was concussed last week in a fight with Utica's Andrej Pedan. Tinordi took a big shot in the bout and he collapsed face first into the ice. He has two assists and seven penalty minutes in nine games with Montreal this campaign.
Jan 16 - 4:49 PM

Jarred Tinordi was badly injured during a fight in the AHL on Friday night.

Tinordi dropped the gloves with Utica's Andrej Pedan and the end result wasn't pretty. Pedan hit Tinordi with a punch that dropped the Habs' prospect. Tinordi was bleeding and from the mouth, and he needed help getting off the ice after his head appeared to hit the ice hard. He won't be a call-up option for the Canadiens for a while after he suffered a concussion on the play.
Jan 11 - 9:58 AM

Jarred Tinordi has been reassigned to the minors.

He was a healthy scratch on Tuesday. Tinordi has recorded two assists, 11 hits and 13 blocks in nine games with the Canadiens this season. His demotion comes after Montreal acquired Sergei Gonchar from Dallas on Tuesday.

Jarred Tinordi has been sent to the minors.

Jared Tinordi has been a bright spot on the Canadiens' blueline thus far.

The Habs are winning but their defensive-zone play has been a bit sloppy. Tinordi, however, has played very well in the regular season after a shaky preseason effort and has been perhaps the most solid of all Montreal blueliners. Although he won't get you a ton of points, Tinordi could be a good source of penalty minutes if he continues to play well and stay in the Habs' lineup.
