Islander prospect Kirill Kabanov sustained a serious cut on his left wrist in an AHL game Friday.

He apparently needed emergency surgery to deal with the injury but tweeted that the procedure went well. Kabonov had registered two assists with Bridgeport in four games so far this season. For now we will consider Kabonov out of action indefinitely.

Kirill Kabanov has been returned to the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats.

Kabanov was selected in the third round of the 2010 NHL entry draft by the New York Islanders. He's incredibly talented, but he went that late in the draft because he has a reputation for being a headcase. The Islanders want to give him a clean slate, but they ended up disciplining him twice in September for showing up late to the team physicals and later a warm-up before practice.

Kirill Kabanov has been disciplined by the Islanders for a second time due to being late.

He was skated hard as punishment for his actions. "I feel bad," he said. "I didn't fall asleep, but I was late for warm-up. I made it in time for practice, and that's about it." Kabanov's tardiness cost him a morning skate at the rookie camp just over a week ago when he was late for team physicals. It looks like New York has quite the problem child on their hands with the enigmatic Russian.

Kirill Kabanov took part in Tuesday's morning skate after being held off the ice Monday for disciplinary reasons.

Kabanov showed up late for team physicals and was punished for his actions. He wasn't picked until the third round of the 2010 NHL entry draft because of his attitude problems, but GM Garth Snow is offering Kabanov "a new slate" with the Islanders. It remains to be seen if Kabanov will take advantage of the opportunity, but he certainly is talented enough to succeed at the NHL level.

Kirill Kabanov did not skate at the Islanders rookie camp on Monday morning due to disciplinary reasons, according to a team official.

He was late for team physicals and was held out of practice as a result. Kabanov has been noted for his attitude problems and it resulted in his stock dropping dramatically at the NHL Entry Draft. However, his talent and potential gave New York reason enough to take a chance on him at the 2010 draft with a third-round pick. Kabanov is expected to return to the ice on Tuesday after the issue will be talked about today with the Islanders' brass.

Islanders GM Garth Snow plans to give Kirill Kabanov "a new slate."

Kabanov was selected in the third round by the New York Islanders, but he could have gone much higher if not for his alledged attitude problems. He has been let go by his agent, J.P. Barry, and he got cut from the Russian Under-18 squad. On the plus side, the Islanders don't have to worry about him leaving for the KHL, because he got banned from the league when he broke his contract to play with the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats. "I'm the first one to admit I wasn't a saint growing up myself," Snow said. "We all do things when we're younger that we may regret, where we'd like to take a mulligan. Here's his mulligan. You can't argue his talent, and the rest is up to him."

The New York Islanders have selected Kirill Kabanov in the third round of the 2010 Entry Draft.

Kabanov was a real wild card in the draft as he is immensely talented and just as big a headcase. He went back to Russia after his QMJHL team in Moncton benched him for a game. He has all the tools and is certainly worth a shot in this round. The Islanders shall see if he can contain his attitude problems and grows up.
