Calvin Pickard and Garret Sparks earned the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award for the 2017-18 season.
The award goes to the AHL goaltender(s), with at least 25 games played, on the team which allows the fewest goals per game in the regular season. The Toronto Marlies allowed just 2.24 goals per game en route to the best record in the league (54-18-2-2). Sparks also won the Baz Bastien Award winner as the AHL's outstanding goaltender. Pickard posted a 21-9-2 record as member of the Marlies with a 2.31 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage and one shutout over 33 appearances. Apr 16 - 10:24 AM

Calvin Pickard has been loaned to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Pickard got to play last Friday against his former Colorado teammates and he ended up on the losing end of a 4-3 overtime decision. His demotion probably means that Curtis McElhinney is ready to return from a lower-body injury.
Jan 2 - 10:55 AM

Calvin Pickard stopped 24 of 28 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss against Colorado.

Pickard was summoned because Curtis McElhinney is dealing with a lower-body injury. Given that Frederik Andersen started on Thursday, the Maple Leafs decided to give Pickard the nod against his former team. Unfortunately Pickard ended up surrendering a goal in every period, including the overtime frame.

Calvin Pickard is the expected starter for Friday's match against the Colorado Avalanche.

Pickard was recalled earlier in the day ue to Curtis McElhinney being sidelined with a lower-body injury. Since Frederik Andersen started Thursday's 7-4 victory over the Arizona Coyotes, it would look like a prime opportunity for Pickard to step in versus his former team. Pickard hasn't played an NHL game since April 9th.

Calvin Pickard has been called up by Toronto.

The Leafs made the move with Curtis McElhinney sidelined by a lower-body injury. Pickard could get the nod against his former Colorado teammates on Friday night after Frederik Andersen was in goal for Thursday's 7-4 win over Arizona. He has played well in the minors this season since he was acquired from Vegas back in October.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Calvin Pickard from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round pick and Tobias Lindberg.

Pickard successfully cleared waivers on Friday and because of that, he will report to the AHL's Marlies. Toronto could have simply claimed Pickard, but this way they can stash him in the AHL for now and only summon him in the event of an injury or if they become unsatisfied with the performance of current backup goalie Curtis McElhinney. This is a nice boost to Toronto's organizational depth in goal.

Calvin Pickard went unclaimed on waivers.

That's interesting given that Pickard comes with a reasonable $1 million cap hit for the 2017-18 campaign and would be an upgrade in the backup gig for several teams. That being said, Pickard clearing waivers doesn't necessarily mean he'll stay within Vegas' organization. Teams might actually be more willing to acquire him now because they can trade for him and then safely store him in the AHL. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have Malcolm Subban as their backup goaltender.

Calvin Pickard has been placed on waivers by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Very interesting. Vegas claimed Malcolm Subban off waivers from Boston, so if the Golden Knights didn't make a move then they would have been entering the season with three goaltenders. That's never a great position to be in so in that regard this move makes perfect sense. Still, the 25-year-old Pickard has a fair amount of potential despite his disappointing 2016-17 campaign behind a terrible Avalanche squad. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see Pickard claimed, especially given that he only comes with a $1 million cap hit for the 2017-18 campaign.

Calvin Pickard understands he's entering the season as the backup goaltender.

It's a role Pickard is familiar with at the NHL level, but it's also a step down from 2016-17 when he played in 50 games with Colorado due to Semyon Varlamov missing a good chunk of the campaign. Now Pickard is firmly behind Marc-Andre Fleury in the depth charts, so he'll have to deal with limited playing time again. "Every NHL team needs two good goalies," said Pickard. "There’s a lot of back-to-back situations, a lot of of times where I’m going to need to play, and when I get in there. I’ve got to take advantage of my opportunities. I’m just trying to get more and more comfortable every day here, get used to my teammates and … make sure I’m sharp come the regular season." Although Pickard played frequently last season, he left plenty to be desired on the ice, but he also had a terrible team in front of him. Vegas isn't likely to be great this season either, but Pickard has a shot at bouncing back here.

Calvin Pickard is embracing the challenge of playing with an expansion team.

Pickard went from Colorado to Vegas in the expansion draft, where he's expected to be Marc-Andre Fleury's backup goaltender. "It's a new experience for all of us, every staff member, every player," Pickard said. "If we go in with an open mind, it's going to be a lot of fun. We're playing in the NHL in Las Vegas, so I think a lot of people would take that. Everybody's going to be really excited for sure." Pickard is saying all the right things, but don't expect him to have much, if any, fantasy value this season.

Calvin Pickard has been selected in the expansion draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Pickard had a 15-31-2 record for the Avalanche in 2016-17. The team was disastrous on the ice, but the 25-year-old goaltender has solid potential. He won a silver medal with Canada at the World Hockey Championship. Pickard could be the backup netminder for the Golden Knights in 2017-18.

The Colorado Avalanche decided to expose Calvin Pickard in the expansion draft over Semyon Varlamov.

That's a bit interesting given that Varlamov is coming off a very rough season and has a $5.9 million annual cap hit. Pickard didn't look great in 2016-17 either, but he's affordable and has more potential. Still, this could be the Avalanche showing their support of their veteran goaltender and signally their belief that Varlamov will bounce back next season. We'll have to wait until Wednesday to see if Vegas chooses to select Pickard.

Calvin Pickard made 24 saves on 27 shots in a 3-2 loss to St. Louis on Sunday.

Pickard finishes with a 15-31-2 record this season, 2.98 goals against average and .904 save percentage. It's a step back from his rookie season, but it was a step back for everyone on the Avs' roster.

Calvin Pickard will get the season finale on Sunday against the Blues.

Through 40 games this season the young netminder sports a 15-30-2 record with a .904 save percentage and a 2.98 GAA.

Calvin Pickard allowed all four goals in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.

There isn't much good to say about the Avalanche at this point but Pickard has shown some flashes behind a terrible squad. He has a 2.98 goals-against-average with a .914 save percentage in 49 appearances, a career high by far.
