Calvin Pickard allowed two goals on 42 shots but took the loss in a 2-1 defeat to Chicago on Tuesday.

Pickard allowed two goals in the first period but shut the door the rest of the way for his team who couldn't get that tying goal for him. He was the only reason the Avalanche had any chance in this game and was named the first start despite taking the loss. With regular starter Semyon Varlamov dealing with off-ice issues, Pickard has been adequate in his place.

Calvin Pickard was outstanding in a 4-3 overtime win over Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Kings outshot Colorado 18-5 in the first period and Pickard kept damage to a minimum with 16 saves despite playing on the second straight night. They needed the win and he was the main reason for it in this game. He is 3-2-0 on the season with a 2.89 GAA and .910 save percentage in nine appearances this season.

Calvin Pickard will start Wednesday night when the Colorado Avalanche visit the Los Angeles Kings

Pickard was an Avalanche selection in the second round (49th overall) in 2010. He's won two games - one with a shutout - in eight appearances, sporting a .907 save percentage and 2.87 goals against average.

Pickard is 2-1-0 and has turned aside 130 of 141 combined shots thus far this season. He lost won only other start versus the Sharks, turning away 35 of 38 shots just one month ago.

Calvin Pickard blocked 19 shots in the Avalanche’s 2-1 loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.

Receiving his second consecutive start, Pickard didn’t have the same success as against New Jersey when he posted a shutout. Pickard gave up a goal early in the first and one at 18:53 of the third period. He has a 2.40 GAA and .922 SV%.

Calvin Pickard turned away all 27 shots New Jersey sent his way for his first career NHL shutout on Thursday night.

Pickard did everything asked of him, plus stopping all five shots he saw on special teams to seal a very special night for himself. Colorado would go on to win 3-0. Now through six games this season, he's stopped 111 of 120 combined shots with two wins for his only decisions.
